Thanks for all the amazing feedback on this review everyone - great to see so many golfers enjoying our videos so far in 2021. Remember you can see the full written review of of the PING G425 irons here: bit.ly/PingG425IronsRvwGA as well of our other Golfalot equipment reviews.
A year and 3 months have passed since this video and these clubs are still flying off the shelves. I was so impressed with the driver and hybrid 425's that I just bought the irons. Cant wait to receive them.
Sophie, best reviewer on the web for 10 and up handicap players. The points that you address are so on target with what a player of that hdc should be paying attention to. Launch in long irons and control and feel in the short ones. Better players already know all that. Well done!
I appreciate your candor and leaving out all of the distance hype, consistency is more important. In addition, the comment about the faces of the short irons is important, it's why many better golfers switch to non-matched set wedges to get the better grooves. It appears that Ping continues to improve both objective and subjective areas of golf equipment without all the hype. Thanks again for an honest assessment.
Hey Jim, thanks for getting in touch with the feedback. We try to be as honest and impartial with our reviews as possible. Golf is not all about distance - especially at amateur level. Please make sure you're subscribed to our channel to see more content throughout 2021!
Really liked this review. The lady was actually really interested in reviewing the clubs and gave an honest opinion, than mostly using RU-vid for her ego and own humour, which is something that's turning me off most review sites. James Robinson take note!
I especially appreciate the info about the "knock down wedge" performance. Such an important aspect imo. Your reviews give valuable insight. Thank you!
Thanks for the great feedback Todd. The scoring part of the game is one of the most important! Please subscribe to our channel to see all new content first.
This was an awesome review! You approached it from the level of all golfers and didn't talk over our heads. I've seen other reviews where they just kept saying, this is not a club that fits me but... Anyways, thanks for the great info!
Excellent review. I just picked up my set of fitted G425s ( Driver - UW ). I'm a 13 hcap and love that i can actually stop the ball on the greens now. My old set were my father's set of Ping G20s ( graphite senior flex ). My new G425 irons are steel regular+.
Great review Sophie. I like your video content, especially out on course. I got fitted for these 2 days ago. Such a difference from my current set (30 year old Ping Zing 2) which were a family hand me down set and getting fitted I found my set 1 inch too short. New G425 set 4-PW will arrive end of Feb, i can't wait. So excited.
I enjoyed this review Sophie. Your swing speed and distances are more relatable to the handicap golfer that I am. Currently play the i25 but these new ones look the business. Very tempting.
Hi ! Having now more time to golf compared to the previous six to eight rounds a year, I went and was fitted. As a couple of friend said my clubs X16’s were too short for me. I don’t know anything about the various manufacturers and their clubs / technology. Simply going by the guidance of the pro offering a variety of brands and what I was comfortable with, I selected the G425’s. I collected them this week and away to play later today. Your review is great - educational and enlightening - reviving the memories of what I learned as a kid. Thank you for your review and I’ll be looking at your other reviews on all other areas of the sport.
Hi Sophie just bought the new ping 7 hybrid from the boys at Cleethorpes and it’s mega forgiving. The g 425 7 iron hits the same numbers at my 75 club head speed ! Hope this helps your viewers. Great review 👍
I've just finished acquiring two Ping ironsets, the G425 and the 710, each in 7 thru GW. I upgraded grips on both to the WINN DriTac 2.0. Haven't had proper weather yet to compare them at the range yet, but can tell that the look and setup of each is very appealing. Can't wait to see if either is " hotter" than the other. Loved your vidi on the 425's, and will get back to you soon. 👍
I watched my first Sophie video this evening and I was very impressed. You are an excellent reviewer and answered all of my questions regarding these irons. I currently game the G30 irons and this looks like a massive improvement in looks and I’m guessing .....feel and forgiveness. Thanks again for the very informative review! 😀
I'm a G fan !!! And if you want them Hotter I think they make a set that has stronger lofts. Like 7 Iron 30 deg and hotter set comes at 28.5 or 29. I'm not a 100% sure but I think I saw a review that talks about it.
Great review Sophie! I like the more compact look, versus the G410s. One can also get these in the Power Spec lofts from Ping, which is about 2º stronger, I think. Distance would probably would be close to Mavrik/Sim Max territory at those lofts, I would think. Sharp looking irons, for sure. Glad they ditched the color and went with simple silver and black. You can always tell when a manufacturer is going for more of the "player's" market, because the color goes away.
Thanks for a very thorough review. I'm already tempted to try these when we get back playing. Wasn't keen on the 410 irons, these certainly look much better.
Thanks for the review Sophie. Have used G25s since their release and am looking for an upgrade. As soon as they become available I'll give them a demo.
Just come across this channel and love it! Great honest reviews. In the market for a new driver this year so your reviews have helped me decide. One of the best channels out there - subscribed!
Excellent review - watched a lot of videos (all guys) and you have a slightly different perspective - very helpful - must update my fitted clubs from 15 years ago - but so much choice ......!

Just got fitted today.. 4-5 week delivery ( bummer) it’ll be to cold to play em when they arrive.. I switched from TM M4 irons.. which IMHO are pretty hot.. my 7 iron was my go to 180 yd club.. before these I had ping zing 2 irons and my 7 was 150.. so big difference.. on tracman today the g425 7 iron average carry was 165.. so not as long as the M4… however like you said the sound is very nice, visually very nice.. so I’m looking forward to getting back into the ping family.. played the 425 driver this season and love it.. new subscriber now as well!

Thats a super good review.! Not only well performed, but informative and realy nice with the additional outdoor testing. Nice work there. Got me thinking about buying new irons.. =P
Great review Sophie. I enjoy your videos and content. Your tempo is phenomenal and I gain value from your numbers as they match close to mine. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to hitting the Ping G425s as I have gamed Callaway for the last few years.
Getting fitted for these irons this coming Thursday. Playing the G425 Max driver and absolutely hit it great. Looking forward to the same with the 425 irons. Also adding the G425 fairway wood.
Good review. What about the wide sole and relatively high vcog (vertical centre of gravity)? Perhaps needs to be noted as well as what handicap level they are aimed at. I.e more suited to someone who is a ‘digger’ or hits down on the ball. I know I’ve fallen foul of Ping irons in the past and don’t get on with them. Yes they are catered for my handicap but not my style of iron play. I’m a picker / sweeper and need a thinner sole and lower vcog. Just thought it was another key element to bear in mind when looking at these.
Good review. I know of a couple of my buddies that recently bought Pings' and they love them. I believe one got the G425. They said their game has improved quite a bit. One young buck hits the ball a mile bit I've always been able to beat him, but now he beats me 80% of the time. Anyways, good review so much so that I am tempted to take my 14 year old grandson to get fitted. Whether it be Ping, or some other brand but these look very inviting.
I wanted to buy a set of G's, but the 400 and 410 series I found fugly. The 425 is a beautiful game improvement club, will be trying out when possible.
Fantastic review Sofie as usual thank you. I’m still playing the i25 and always loved them , these really give me a reason to change they look great hope they feel as good because the i25 felt great. Thanks again 👍😀
@@GolfalotTV I was going to ask if you have tried graphite shafts on these and what your view was on graphite v steel for us oldies but from the other posts on here it looks like you don't reply to specific questions.
Great review Sophie. I've been using a set of i15s for nearly ten years. I'm playing off 10 Hcp but have played lower and looking to really start working on my game again. I was never a fan of the GI badged irons, yeah simply looked too unwieldy, but your review of these irons has changed my mind. I will take a serious look at them when I get fitted for new irons next week.
Happy New Year. Just bought some second hand Yonex irons that look very similar. Gaming AP1 for winter and keeping my AP2s for the better weather. Not totally convinced it makes a difference.
Great review Sophie. I have a fitting booked in 2 weeks at my local driving range. I like the look of the irons and find hybrids very confidence inspiring. Was thinking of suggesting to the fitter about 8 to sw irons and 5,6,7 hybrids see what he thinks. By the way im a senior golfer so this type of set make up may suit me. Have you had any feed back on the higher lofted hybrids.
It all depends on what you are looking for from a set of irons, but looks-wise I would say yes. They are offset, but not massive and the top line is thin enough.
Hi Sophie Thanks for another great review, as stated elsewhere it good to see ball speed numbers that I can relate to. Could I ask why the iron review featured a 6 iron when on all your other reviews it has been a 7 iron ? Cheers Harry
Hi Harry, thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Great to hear you're enjoying the reviews - make sure you're subscribed to see more! Good question but there is no specific set of iron numbers for testing. We basically just get what the manufacturer sends us in the sample sets for that range. It causes a little confusion because each manufacturer differs in what they send sometimes.
went from rogue x to g425...loved my rogues but had the wrong shaft in it for me...went to a stiff 105 and boy, same distance if not more than my rogues.
I think I may sell my g710's for these. The 710's are okay but they don't sound and feel that good and they seem so wide when addressing the ball. The 425's looking more compact may be a better fit for me.
Agreed.... I wish Ping would work on their accustics. G710 and G500 need a lot of work to soften sound. Calling the face a wood face is a bad excuse for not improving acoustics.
I liked the G710s as they packed a good punch but it's definitely worth trying to see the difference between them and the G425s as there are differences that may suit your game more.
Hey, thanks for getting in touch. I would probably say the Callaway B21 irons are the most forgiving. My favorite, I would probably say the PING G425 as they are still forgiving bit also look and feel great.
Great video! Enjoying your content, keep up the good work! I’m currently playing a set of game improvement irons that are about 7 years old. Really liking the look and performance of these irons and looking to upgrade to these at some point. I’ve been playing for about a year, really enjoying the game and have joined my local club. I’m still developing my swing and learning the game, I’ve managed to break 100 once and am hovering about the 100-110 score usually. Just wanted to ask if you think I should take the plunge and buy these now (after lockdown) or maybe wait until the end of the year when I’m a bit more consistent so could have a more accurate custom fit? Thanks!
Hey Jack! Great to have you on-board with the beautiful game and watching our content. Hopefully we can help you improve further. The great thing about Ping clubs is that they are very easy to crank (alter loft and lie) as your swing changes - they also last forever and are very hard wearing so don't worry if your clubs need altering as you improve. I would say however that practice is always more important than new clubs. Good luck with your game Jack and make sure you're subscribed to our channel to see all future videos. Hope this helps!
Good review I'm looking to change my i23 irons and woods and was looking at the i200 but these look a nice option. Did you notice any gaps between the clubs due to the stronger lofts?
Hi Dickie, thanks for the feedback! Always worth getting fitted and comparing to your current irons in terms of gapping to see if there are any differences.
i've had fitted ping i-25 irons for about 8 years and the only complaint i have about them is the added vibration damper on the back that are only glued on which i think is a poor design and seems like an after thought and they tend to fall off and then i have to glue them back on. do these G425 have anything like that added? you have a real solid looking swing and it's nice to watch.
Hi Seve, thanks for great feedback - you can see both of our reviews of these clubs via Golfalot. B21 review: bit.ly/CallawayBBB21IronsRvw Cobra Radspeed review: bit.ly/CobraRadIronsRvw
Fab video Sophie I'm gaming the mavrik pro but as I'm ageing I'm wanting to go to a distance / forgiving iron. What are your thoughts on these as they look very good and sound pretty quiet. Also looking at wilson d9 if you have any thoughts on them Thank you
gaming the G410s and happy with them. Interesting about the grooves on the wedges, I could switch out mine to the 425s, especially as i use glide 3.0 54 and 58 degrees
I didn't find them to be longer in my testing no. You can watch my G710 irons review here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-COxCrECqdMQ.html
If I hear you correctly Sophie , you’re saying they are forgiving , smaller profile consistent distant golf irons and they look good too, add to that wedges that you really can game? Sounds like a pretty good offering to me, I play g410 and I 200 short irons, my delema is G425 or I210. What’s your take on the options here , I am an improving player with a higher handicap than my game through lack of competition play.
Everything is perfect except that the distance of each shot is shorter by 15-30 yards. With a 5 Iron, I hit normally 170 yards but with a Ping g425 5 Iron, I hit only 140 yards. I hit 120 yards with a PW, while the Ping G425 reached 80 yards! I am so dismayed! I expexted it to hit longer than other brand clubs. The screw on the iron did not help me much! What a disaster as I got a whole set, and nowhere to resell back!
Maybe I should have been paying more attention to the (seems like) hundreds of hours of club reviews I've watched lately. I say that because I'm not sure what Sophie means with her repeated description that the 425s are not "hot". Can someone define what hot means as it pertains to a characteristic in irons? TIA
