Ping G425 irons - The ONE thing they got wrong!!! 

I was fitted recently and the clubs are doing wonders for my confidence on the golf course. I went into the fitting expecting to walkout with Mizuno's - to my surprise, the Pings felt better and the #'s indicated it was the right club for me.

7-iron carrying 171 yards with apex of 99 feet, 6000 rpm, and decent angle of 48* . You said it - they are terrific numbers any golfer would be proud of. Ping should spot light those results.

I have the g410 irons &they’ve changed my game completely I’ve gone done from 15 to 9 very happy man ,

I played Ping drivers, and irons for 11 years, and they were very good. Actually I still play Ping drivers, and probably always will. However a few years ago while testing new irons I picked up a Mizuno, and as the iron struck the ball. Well, the feel, the sound, and the beauty of the club just grabbed my soul.

I started purchasing 6 - 9 iron in any brand I like. I game Mizzuno T20 45 bent to 43 for my PW. Yes might think that's weird but it allows me to change only 4 irons out when I feel like it. Use hybrids for longer distances. I am also an average golfer at 70yrs of age an this has helped me score in my senior league where scores matter ($$) more than the looks of your bag. Love your videos! Considering the PXG 0211 after your review this week as well. I am sure they feel and sound better than the G425 and at the low discount price it is hard to pass up for only 4 clubs :)

Great video, Andy ! For a 35 HCP my PING fitting boiled down to 7FW, 5H, and 6i-PW and then added the new Callaway Mack Daddy CB wedges to match (upper part still to be fit in the new season). The 7FW is so easy to hit (180y) and can recommend that !

Hi Andy I have the new ping 7 hybrid and it’s fantastic. I have tried the g425 7 iron against it and hit the same distance ! I’m going for 8-9-W to complete my iron set ! Hope this helps golfers out there ! 😀

AS always a great video, I have owned PING in the past and always loved playing them (Eye 2 and Zing 2). I now play Miura 201's, would love to see you compare the sound of a triple forged Miura (Pure) next to a driver sounding Ping....... Ultimately all modern clubs work well, you just have to find what you enjoy playing. I barely played for 20 years and coming back to golf the biggest difference I see is the loft of the clubs. Trying to compare brand A vs B is pointless unless factoring in strong/weak lofting. Shafts are the other critical improvement and getting that right for your swing.

You are correct about the Ping G series. I will say this first, I am a big fan of ping, currently own two ping putters and a G10 Driver. However, I owned a G5 set and they were the worst thing I did for my golf game. I regressed as a player. They were fun and enjoyable for a time, but they got boring. I never really learned how to hit a golf ball the two years I had the G5. I quickly turned to blade like cavity back and now I play muscle backs. I do not have the swing speed and I usually have to build my own since I like regular flex, but they make the game tons of fun for me. Shaping shots and rewarding me for being a good ball striker.

I have a request.. :) I'm buy the new Ping G425 irons and noticed ping does a full range of wedges in the G425.. They are stating they have been made with the same Grove tech as the Glide 3.0? As we know matching set wedges have never been that great.. I would love to see you do a comparison review.. FYI you would be the 1st on RU-vid to do it:) Keep up the good work.. Neil..

Was going to say that 5 iron is boarderline gameable with the lower peak heights and descent angle. Then you mentioned you might start blending after 6 iron and felt you nailed that analysis. Could use the 5 iron but probably better options. Well done

Quality stuff as ever, keep doing what you’re doing! I was fitted for irons a couple of years back and went with G410’s but this was a mistake because I realised I’d been sucked in by distance at the expense of feel and control. I traded them after a year for i210’s and haven’t looked back. Sure I’ve lost distance but feel and control are far far more valuable to me.

I agree with you 💯 percent on the sound and feel of these irons. They are very forgiving and long and look good. I preferred the sound look and feel of the new mizuno hot metal pros a little better.

I've yet to hear a bad word said about the driver...sounds like the irons are good as well. If I start saving now I should be able to get some in 2024. Keep them coming Andy..

Based on the stats you provided, this is an iron set I would look for..spin rates are ok and distances are about where I would like to be. Thanks for the videos..ever in the States near Washington state...a pint or 2 would be in the offering! Thanks again..great review!

I ended up going 5i -PW, +UW then have 3w, and 7w, then the kirkland wedge set. that basically gaps the same as my old burner irons 4-pw + the kirkland wedges. Don't care about the sound they could fart on impact as long as the ball goes straight

I had been using the same set of Tommy Armour 845’s for 30 yrs, since I was a kid. Bought these G425’s a few months ago since me and my father started playing every week again. The ball really jumps off the iron and they’re very forgiving now that im older and have injuries from the war. Get a set! Good price

Great review. I've owned multiple Ping irons over the years (Eye2, G10 and G25). 10 hcp as of now. Late in the 2019 season I was fitted for a set of Standard Mavriks. Played 10 rounds with them and hated the strong lofts. Traded the rep for a set of Mav Max's. Played 2 rounds and not a fan of those either. As soon as the 425's are available I'll be giving them a try.

Great video. Enjoying your perspective on these clubs. I’ve just returned to the game and want to start improving this year. Currently using some old Taylor made super steel irons but thinking of making an investment In both ends of the bag. These seem like a good option, especially if custom fit. Can see me with a full bag of pings after the last couple of reviews, hope the fairway woods are as good as the drivers.

I bought a set 6-U. I use an AVX or other soft feeling premium three piece balls, and don’t notice the sound at all. You may notice if you use a premium X ball. They feel great, look great, the finish has not blemished at all on the bottom because of the process they use.

I am with you Andy about the sound, but as a senior golfer looking for some more forgiveness I think it's something I will just need to sacrifice. On my short list of irons right now I have Callaway Rouge ST MAX OS, TaylorMade Stealth, Cleveland Launcher XL and recently added the Ping G425. I have not tested any yet just got a hands on look at them, and really like the Rogue and hear it sounds and feel more like a forged iron - I hope that is the case and they are the best of the bunch. But in the end I will go with whatever gets the job done the best - except for my wedges. Those have to have a proper feel and sound. At 66 I only have some much time left to golf and want to enjoy it as best I can. Appreciate your review and perspective as always.

Great video. I went through the i25's, G400, G700, & G710. I never could get used to the sound. Now gaming Titlist T300. Love them. Keep things coming.👍🏌⛳😀

Got fitted for these today, had g10 before, would average 135-140 with 7i and after trying a few shafts/lie angles the average went up to high 160s, peaked higher and had about 1000 rpm less spin. Definitely worth a proper fitting to optimise but these were really impressive

I game ping i500 Andy, not as forgiving as g410/425 I imagine, my only negative comment on the g425 iron is the cavity, I would have like to see the gap filled with Elastomer like the ping glide 3 wedges, I guess it would change the acoustics a little, but in my opinion would just make these look so much more appealing to my eye, great content....thanks.

I love ping but I was so ready for you to shred this iron. I feel like PING has gotten too complacent in their iron range. Not a lot has changed since the G400's and arguably even the version prior. Most of the changes have been solely on sound or feel. Hope to see a G410 vs G425 and maybe even a three way comparison that also includes the G400 if you have them as well. Love your stuff man.

Good looking irons the sound wouldn't bother me at all Andy I purchased the Cleveland hb turbo driver on reviews and that Is loud but the performance is out of this world and that's what counts for me.

Ping finally look as though they have got themselves a nice looking G series set of Irons, previous versions performed well enough but looked shovels!👍

Got my set they are ver good! Good looking, good feeling very satisfying! I didn’t have worry about the distances through the set because they were the same as my back up set of Tour Edge HL3

Love these. Might go combo. i210 8 iron thru Gap wedge and G425 4 iron (or 5) thru 7 iron. Will have to go power spec on i210 to match lofts. Will be getting Custom fit in the springtime and this combo set will be tested. Might go TM P770/P7MC as another option. Will see what pair fits me better

I would like a comparison with the Mizuno 921 HM irons

some great clubs about. I hadn't played golf for 15 years and started playing again with my 20 year old clubs and balls. Since upgrading I've probably shaved 3 or 4 shots off my handicap. That's more likely mostly due to playing more regularly and in decent conditions along with a little contribution from equipment. I'm sure 45 mins on the putting green 3 or 4 times a week would shave a few more off. I'm just a bit cynical how much better club design has on scoring. A bit for sure. The great loft debate. I play guys 20 years younger than me and they all hit longer than me. Just checked one guy has M6 irons and he boasts about how far he can hit, let's say a 6 iron. well that's lofted at 1 degree more than my AP2 4 iron. Even though he knows and I know that the lofts arent comparable, there is still a macho thing going on. lol. he's good at overshooting greens. It's knowing how far any particular club goes and the score after 18 that matters, sort of.

U, S, and L wedges are pretty good too. Same groove types as glide.

With it being a Ping, I am sure they are solid, and will sell well. They are some nice looking clubs, I could probably get used to the sound, if the results were good.

Sound contributes to feel. I have moved away from Ping due to the percussive "crack" of their irons. I got rid of my G710 irons and moved to the PXG 0211s primarily because of sound.

Great video they look really nice not sure I'd like the same sort of sound through the bag . Overall so far they are looking a real decent range and colours going g to appeal to more golfers

Playing the i500s at the mo love them , waiting to see what the hybrid and fairways are like to compare them to my g400 crossovers in the lower end of the bag 👍

Another great review Andy. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on feel / sound against other similar new offerings such as the Apex DCB and Cobra Radspeed. Hopefully we will see these in near future content. Great work.

New to channel as looking at reviews of G425. Great review clearly presented and informative. I have a stroke index of 12.4 normally 13/14 shots allowance. Will these suit me as an option to consider?

The stats are impressive, the sound doesn't bother me it's the results that count.

Brilliant review. I played a full bag of Ping clubs since 2016 (G series) and had been playing Ping irons since 2013 (G25 followed by the G series). I had been looking to get into graphite shafted irons and 2 months ago I switched to PXG 0211 irons because I could not pass up the $89 per club price. I still have the Ping G series Driver, 5W, 4h and Ping Crossover in my bag.

I know you liked the G710 irons better than the G410 but do you like the G425 better than the G710? If so, wondering what you like better and is the G710 still more forgiving than the G425? Thanks.

Drivers and metals, love the look of them. Hoping to have a fitting session on the driver as visually it’s my driver of choice when I take the plunge in the next few weeks. But numbers will dictate. I game the ping g series irons which were fitted (green dot and 1/2in longer AMT2.0)and I think visually the g425’s are better looking and imagine there’ll be improvements in forgiveness. I don’t like all these strong lofts TM p790 g710s etc and believe there should be a plus minus 1 degree variation per club across the industry and would prefer accuracy over distance every day of the week.

I've been a PXG die hard for 4-5 years have had the GEN 2 GEN 3 GEN 4 irons and i liked them alot.....but i am going next week to get fitted for one of three irons....PING G425....MIZUNO JPX 921 HOTMETALS....SRIXON ZX4 and see if they feel better and are more forgiving than the PXG....Going into it with an open mind... wish me luck..lol.....cheers from Canada

In your equipments I notice you very rarely mention what shaft type, weight and flex you’re using. I for one would find this interesting to know as a fellow average golfer with similar swing speeds.

Really liking the look and performance of these irons and looking to upgrade to these at some point. I’ve been playing for about a year, really enjoying the game and have joined my local club. I’m still developing my swing and learning the game, I’ve managed to break 100 once and am hovering about the 100-110 score usually. Just wanted to ask if you think I should take the plunge and buy these now (after lockdown) or maybe wait until the end of the year when I’m a bit more consistent so could have a more accurate custom fit? I'm still playing the G Max irons and love them. Also I agree about the hybrids. I play 6 iron to SW and 3,4 and 5 hybrids. I will never go back to the longer irons because the hybrids makes scoring lower so much easier. Just my opinion.

These new irons are ridiculous as far as distance. My current irons are only several years old, and my 7 goes about 155. I tried the Taylormade Sim max 7, and was hitting it 175.

Just ordered fitted 7 - SW G425 and Glide 3.0 LW to go with my G410 Hybrids (2, 4, 5, 6), G410 Dr and 3W. For some reason I never really "hear" my golf shots, so the sound doesn't make a difference for me.

That outside in swing and still hitting such clean, good shots. Amazing.

Not a fan of Ping irons but these do look good
