PING have made a HUGE MISTAKE with this AMAZING NEW CLUB... When PING release new golf clubs they often absolutely smash it out of the park... we saw the Ping g425 driver which has been a huge success over the last few years, the Ping i525 irons which have rivalled the best irons of 2022, the most forgiving golf clubs and even the longest golf clubs of 2022. We have also seen the Ping i210 irons, Ping Blueprint irons and also the Ping i59 irons which have been a major success for golfers wanting workable golf clubs but also forgiving irons... in this video we see a brand new 2022 PING GOLF CLUB.. but I honestly feel like they have made a HUGE MISTAKE with the release of this new golf club... let's do it. and let's do it now!

Cleveland has been making one for several years that looks good. I carry one. It’s really good in the fringe but it’s really really helpful in deeper rough where the weight helps it get through. People carry woods and hybrids that they use a few times a round. This really isn’t any different. I may only use is 5-6 times a round but when I do it shaves strokes.
@GatorShawn
@GatorShawn 2 года назад
I played 9 holes tonight. I used my 19 degree hybrid 2 times, my 3-wood one time, I didn't use my SW or GW at all, but I used the chipper 6 times. Only clubs I used more were Driver, 7i, 9i, PW, and putter.

A few year ago I started shanking all shots around the green . I now use my 23 degree hybrid on tight lies and from the fringe with a putting stroke and have had great success, much like using a chipper . I haven’t looked back. Took awhile to get the touch dialed in but I would not change a thing

The Cleveland flavor of this "chipper" is quite delightful. It gives me such control and confidence. The feel is unlike any other wedge I've ever used. So I can see where Ping wants on to the band wagon.

I just purchased a PING Chipper. I have played two rounds and it is one of the most forgiving clubs I have used. It does take some practice but really works well for me around the green and out about 50 yards. First round I chipped in a 20 yard chip which I have not done for a long time. Highly recommend.

Practice gripping down a couple of inches on an 8 iron or 9 iron or PW, giving a more vertical shaft and slightly toe down position. Use a putting stroke to give a similar result to a chipper.
@simonleach3812

Agreed. Almost every club in the bag can be a chipper. Some players get hooked on using a wedge every time they're close to the green.
@jaywalk4446
@jaywalk4446 2 года назад
@@simonleach3812 depends who they are aiming it at. I play golf regularly and i am happy chipping with my normal clubs. My brother plays about 5 times a year and off about 19. He needs a chipper and has had one in the bag for over 10 years. Without it he is a mid 20s handicapper. People say to him "oh you should practice" to which he says "no, i have literally zero interest in practicing, so i am never going to be able to chip well with other clubs." He plays another sport to a high level and has no time or interest in practise. I fear a lot of people that slag off chippers think that everyone that plays golf must be devoting time to it and trying to be as good as they can be. It's not true, many just like a round now and then.

Should've called it the Ping 1Putt. I have a Cleveland Smart Sole 4 Chipper in my bag right now, but I like the looks of this one so much more, plus the full shot thing is enticing, plus the Cleveland's face is just a tad too small IMO and the sole makes opening the face harder, if it's even slightly in deeper rough it makes it very difficult to use, the Ping looks like it could handle that much better. It's out of my price range right now, but in a couple of years I'm sure I'll grab one on the used market and give it a go. I'm a 12 handicap, who can hit a wedge decently but like you guys said, it's not about how good your good shots are it's how good your bad shots are and a bad wedge shot will kill a hole, but with my chipper my bad shot still sees me with a chance to 2 putt. I've always been immune to peer pressure and if ever teased about using a Chipper (which doesn't really happen with average golfers) I can handle it, I'll put anything in my bag if it helps me get closer to the pin. Great content.

I swapped my 50, 54 & 58 wedge setup for a 52, 58 and chipper. Dropping about 5 strokes because I’m always on the green from chipping and not duffing. Also, punch out shots are much better with a chipper when the lie is doable. Also, I can hit a full shot from under the trees about 120 or more. Every average golfer needs one of these and needs to ditch the pro mentality about their clubs!

My first set were handmedown copper ping eye 2 irons and woods. And the bag included a copper chipper. As a new young player, that was my go to club. Having not had any lessons, it was the only club I would consistanly get a good strike on, used it off the tee on par 3s and for longer pitch shots. Surprising how well it worked with a fuller swing. It was the shorter shaft and headweight that helped. Not surprised by this from Ping, its not a new idea. Looks pretty good

I watched both of your video's on this club and seeing the versitility I bought one today. I have no idea why you say this is just for mid to high players? This is pure amazing from fringe to 100 yards out! If its legal why wouldnt you use it? Vanity? (I love your content so not meaning that to dig at you) If it wasnt for deep rough it would replace the 9 iron completely. I almost got a hole in one on our par 3 with it!!! In my opinion Ping should model the lie and bottome line of this club to a set of clubs and they would be killer!!! This club is amazing!!! Keep up the great video's 😉

Out of interest fellas, have you tried the Cleveland offering? I’m currently rocking one but still have the 50, 54 and 60 degrees in the bag for when I really need them or want to hit those particular stock yardages. I have chosen to drop the PW so go 9iron straight to 50. Interestingly, the reason I have done this is exactly what Andy said about practising several different bump and runs but with the one club. Was actually pretty good at getting it close with 7-PWs but am noticing I’m even tighter and the duffs are far fewer and end up being far less penalising. Can you guess I approve. 😜

My Cleveland C wedge has become my go to from about 90 yards in. It's just so easy to hit and never gives me the concern about duffs that I would get using a higher lofted wedge. I replaced my 58 in the bag with it and haven't looked back. It does take some practice to get used to, but once it's dialed in it is near automatic.

Nice review guys! Fun having two perspectives re ChipR name Ping is an interesting company in that in most ways they are conservative: - design - product cycle times - marketing ... but they do come out with some edgy names! - mainly in putters I reckon this category deserves to be in the bag of most golfers, but the stigma is too strong! Perhaps one day we will see a top player on tour using and espousing and then "the average golfer will wise up"

Right tool for the right job. By that I mean this is a great club when grass is short, uniform, dry, and ground is firm. At my hime course that is Feb thru May. It is the wrong club when grass is long, ununiform, wet, and ground is soft. Better fly in a wedge then. That is typical of my home course from May to Sept due to heavy irrigation. Point being there are no universal solvents, so only put it in the bag when conditions are right for it.

The same results can be obtained with a mid-iron if one practices from 40 yards and in with one using a chipping stroke as suggested in Tom Watson’s book “Getting Up and Down From 40 Yards and IN” which is one of the first instructional books I purchased and followed in the mid-1980s. He suggested learning to hit 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full shots with every club in the bag taking note of carry and roll characteristics. That really expands the imagination and skill around around the green. The difference between 1/4 and greater swing arcs is that in 1/4 swing shots both arms are kept straight and in the downstroke to the ball the trailing shoulder and arm become the axis of rotation for the stroke. That’s the opposite of swings in which the force of the swinging club pulls the club and lead arm straight making the front shoulder the axis of rotation with the force also causing automatic hinging at the wrist. It is the hinging at the wrist creating radial deviation and releasing it through impact which produces a downward strike on the ball driving it into the turf and causing it to ‘pop’ out with a lot of backspin. A chipping stroke lacks the downward rotation of the club head around the hands of a pitch and full shot and the trailing shoulder becomes the axis of rotation for the swing creates a different dynamic between club face, ball and turf. To the extent there is backspin created on the ball it comes from allowing the ball to roll up the face of the club between impact and release. Once the difference in cause and effect is realized it becomes easier to successfully use a mid- or long-iron as a chipping club around the green. No need for the ‘crutch’ of a dedicated chipping club.
@bruhnvh
@bruhnvh 2 года назад
It's commonly taught that close-in chips or bump and run shots often call for using a putting stroke. This club is optimized for that. Its lie angle and length are similar to most putters, allowing for a true putting setup with the ball under the eyes, without the gymnastics of of lifting the heel of a short or mid iron and gripping down (perhaps below the grip) to get the ball in closer and employ a putting grip...there's a lot to be said for setting up at a club's natural lie angle. Call a well designed chipper a crutch if you like, but IMO it's no different than other clubs that are designed to be easier to hit (compared to a traditional iron) in specific scenarios (gap wedge? hybrid?).

I think a lot of average golfers (15+ handicap) who may have a 58 or 60 degree as their highest lofted wedge would be better off replacing it with a club like this. Especially if they are really struggling around the greens. Or at least try it and see the results. A 54 or 56 still works great around the greens and in the rough.

@@hitdog042 Are you on tour? Have you drank beer or smoked a cigarette? Have you changed ball manufacturers mid round? Have you ever taken a cheap drop because you didn't want to go back and re-tee. Or played out of turn to speed up pace of play? Or offered/accepted gimmes? You fake rule Nazis are what ruin this game for other people...

Would of been interesting if you played alternating shots with a SW, 8i and the Ping Chipr and see the difference. I’m not convinced by it

They should have called it a utility wedge. I've got one and it's brilliant.

Nothing is new? As others have said, look at Cleveland now? And Cleveland ten years ago with the "Niblick"? Besides chipping, one of my playing partners used it as a short shafted seven iron from around 130 yards in. It was and they are, short utility clubs.

$179 US is a lot for one wedge. But I’ll buy it.

seems decent however as a new golfer shoots around 100 and im 19. id rather spend the time to get really good with wedges as my score doesnt really bother me. idk tho

Like to see this compared to chipping with a super game improvement 9 iron - same sort of head size and weight

Many people think they would replace a SW or LW, but if hitting this with a full shot makes the same distance of a PW/AW, I would replace one of those, so I would have the benefits of both worlds…

I would put one of those in my bag, but at close to $200, that's a hard pass for me.
