*_On the Turning Away_* è un capolavoro di brano - a mio parere uno dei migliori brani in assoluto degli anni '80, di altissimo livello sia musicalmente che per quanto riguarda il testo - e l'unica canzone _floydiana_ insieme a _Signs of Life_ presente nell'album del 1987, _A Momentary Lapse of Reason,_ che per quanto mi riguarda è stato un album solista di Gilmour e non un vero disco dei Pink Floyd (esattamente come lo fu _The Final Cut,_ un album solista di Waters), sebbene sia ottimo dal punto di vista musicale. Gilmour si impegnò come meglio poté, tuttavia quello non fu un vero album dei Pink Floyd; poiché non c'era quel senso di unitarietà e quella genuinità sonora visti nel capolavoro *_The Division Bell_* del 1994, per me uno dei loro migliori album e un vero disco dei Pink Floyd, con Gilmour e Wright al massimo delle loro possibilità per il periodo in cui venne registrato - Waters dopo _The Wall_ se lo sogna. The best moment is when the reporter asks about the environmental clauses in their songs, quite interesting perspective for a turn-of-the-Eighties interview. The darkest moment is the reporter’s insistence on Roger Waters’ leaving and messing around with Syd’s quit- there is nothing to compare between the two events at all, I’m afraid.
The interviewer asked mostly silly questions...trying to find out some juicy gossip about the fight with Roger rather than asking about the new album. David looked slightly annoyed at first, Nick was a gentleman as usual, really laid back and polite. I liked the post-Roger albums much better than The Final Cut, which was a bit too gloomy for me, actually a solo album by Roger rather than a Pink Floyd work. I guess it wasn’t easy to find a new style after Roger’s departure while keeping the Pink Floyd trademark sound. A Momentary Lapse of Reason has some great tracks (such as Sorrow), maybe it’s affected by the ‘80s overproduction, but I think it’s still an excellent album. I wish the interviewer had asked about Rick’s comeback into the band instead of stupid questions about environmental issues and Ferraris 🙄
The albums without Roger certainly "sound" like Pink Floyd, but those albums certainly lack a lot of the lyrical nuances and themes that Roger brought to the group. Not that Roger's solo efforts were anything to write home about. Gilmore and Waters needed each to make it work. Apart, the results are little watered down.
I agree. I don't care much about any of their solo trips. But the 4 of them together was magic. Saw them 94 and even though it was amazing it wasn't floyd anymore
Ma anche no, poiché dopo l'album solista di Gilmour spacciato per album dei Pink Floyd del 1987 (sebbene al suo interno ci sia un capolavoro degli anni '80 e una vera canzone _floydiana, On the Turning Away)_ c'è stato un capolavoro e un vero album dei Pink Floyd, cioè *_The Division Bell,_* disco mastodontico e suonato con il cuore _(Poles Apart_ e _High Hopes_ sono i massimi capolavori dell'album e due canzoni di livello eccelso). Chi afferma il contrario non capisce nulla né di musica né dei Pink Floyd. Waters se la sogna la roba che ha fatto Gilmour con i Pink Floyd dopo il suo abbandono. Vedasi per esempio _The Final Cut,_ album che non regge per niente il confronto con i Pink Floyd post-Waters. Waters è sempre stato il cervello e l'autore dei testi dei Pink Floyd; Gilmour, invece, è sempre stato il cuore della band e la musica, insieme al grande Wright.
