'Strangers passing in the street, by chance two separate glances meet, and I am you and what I see is me' - some of the most profound lyrics that you will hear from any Pink Floyd song which demonstrates the theme of empathy within their great body of work over the decades.

'Echoes' was my gateway to Pink Floyd. In the midst of depression and teen angst, a psychologist played this to get me to meditate. He didn't tell me why at the time, but that is what happened. Forty years later I still listen to it to center myself. Thank you Dr. Thorn, wherever you are, for giving me a companion for life. Great reaction! Keep exploring!

You might wish to watch David Gilmour’s (with the inimitable Richard Wright) live version of Echoes. The two choices would be live at Royal Albert Hall and live at Gdańsk. While the latter is usually accorded by fans as being (slightly) better musically (plus the crowd is vaster), personally I prefer Royal Albert Hall because of the lighting and tenderness with which it’s treated, and that isn’t even yet mentioning the glorious back-and-forth between Gilmour and Wright that was captured exquisitely. Of course, NOTHING compares to Echoes at Live in Pompeii as that is . . . well, it’s a spiritual experience on unearthly levels. I think you KNOW what you need to do, young man.

David Gilmour felt Roger Waters was moving away from their musical sound and leaning towards a more lyrically complaint heavy style. When David took over as leader, he wanted more uplifting music. The only mistake he made was listening to advice that Pink Floyd should sound “modern” aka the late 80’s sound. He has reissued 1987’s Momentary Lapse of Reason in 2019 remixed with a more timeless sound (aka real drums not synth drums for example). However, there are a lot of people that like what David did so don’t assume it’s bad. If you want a taste try Learning To Fly.
@krypto_9872

I love the 2019 Remix of Momentary Lapse of Reason. Sounds so much better than the original. (Btw it wasn't actually synth drums but actually gated reverbed drums, back in the 80s literally every other artist from Phil Collins (He invented gated reverb drums) Genesis, Michael Jackson, Prince, to Duran Duran were using Gated reverb drums.) fortunately in the 90s it became so out of fashion that it was almost never used again. This video is very informative about gated reverb. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bxz6jShW-3E.html Side effect, it makes the music sound cheesy. And now it sounds really dated. Also gated reverb has no place on a Pink Floyd record.

Fearless has always been my number 1, along with this whole Album. It is underrated due to its more mellow vibe. But the guitar work and bass lines of Fearless, not to mention the message in the lyrics, is all just a masterpiece! Also, I believe San Tropez is where they took Syd to try to help some kind of recovery. Unfortunately, it didn't work out they way they hoped.

I know it's enough of Echoes on your channel, but the last live performance of Richard Wright worth to see. (Gdansk, 2006) It's not only little different from studio but also quite emotional knowing that it was last colabaration of Gilmour and Wright and sounds fantastic

So great to see you react to this. Age 13 this was my intro to Pink Floyd - playing my older bothers "don't you dare touch vinyl" 😂😂😂 Fearless with the Liverpool Football (soccer) club supporters (the kop) Seamus, with "lead vocals" all pointing to future use of real world sounds to add context to the Floyd soundscape. Seamus was recorded live! Even the album cover (opened flat its a human ear underwater) was a masterpiece 😊 And just when you thought the album was cool, you'd flip it over and wow!

Great reaction! The older stuff, Piper at the Gates...and Saucerful of Secrets, Ummagumma, etc. is very eclectic, experimental sounding. The crowd singing at the end of Fearless is the crowd at a soccer (football) game in England singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

FYI - The term soccer was used in Britain commonly until the 1980s. So when this was recorded in 1971 (by a British band in Britain), "soccer" would be the appropriate term. time.com/5335799/soccer-word-origin-england/ Cheers!

I saw Brit Floyd cover Echoes. It was intermission and the lights turned off. It seemed like at least a minute of dead silence, then we heard a ping. The audience went crazy. I saw an interview of one of their backup singers. Even though she doesn't get to sing, it was her favorite song for them to cover. Each performance was a little different.

Thank you again for sharing these videos. Always warms my heart to know that my favorite band is almost more relevant now with young people than they were at the height of their career. I really do love hearing your take on these classic songs. You are a wise and deep thinking young man and makes me believe that the future of the world is in good hands with men like you out there. I would ask you to watch/listen and comment on Careful With That Axe, Eugene - the version from Live At Pompeii: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Ue6EfcLZek.html . As a matter of fact, I would recommend you watch all the performances within the movie - if not the whole movie itself - to actually see the four of them at the height of their collaboration, with all their 'voices' working in sync together. I think you will especially love the 'live' version of Echoes, since you enjoyed the studio version so much. I will prepare you: the movie is filmed in the ruined Amphitheatre of Pompeii, which was destroyed by an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD, so it seems as though they are playing only for the dead souls. It's so damn cool once you realize it's not your typical 'concert film'. But then again, they were not your typical kind of band. The movie was filmed right before they started recording Dark Side Of The Moon, and even the director went back and filmed this video (Careful) and later some snippets of them recording songs for Dark Side. I think you will really like seeing these, since you like the fact their studio recordings sound almost like live versions. Here is the wiki page for the movie, tell me you don't think this is one of the most cool concepts: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd:_Live_at_Pompeii Thank you again, and I will continue to enjoy your shared thoughts on your Pink Floyd experiences. As always, my strongest request is to please don't edit the songs. We all want to see you react to every note - as was intended. Shine on!

Roger Waters on Atom Heart Mother: "I wish it (the Album version) was put into the dustbin and never listened to by anyone, ever again..." They performed this piece live over 70 times from Feb.1970 to 1971. The earlier live versions (The Amazing Pudding) are sooo much better than the Ron Geesin orchestrated Album version.

Echoes is my favorite Pink Floyd song. I know it feels like you are running out of Pink Floyd and it's true you've done most of the peak stuff. But all of the post-Waters PF stuff is still worth listening to as is Waters's solo stuff. Besides that, if you find the right ship on the high seas you can find dozens upon dozens of live bootlegs, many of which have *great* versions of their best songs. It's a fun trip.

Between when Syd Barret (The Lead writer) was playfully singing about some guy swiping panties off clothes lines, strung together with long interludes of psychedelic music that kept the stoned crowd enthralled until he schized-out and Roger Waters took over writing the lyrics which took on a darker more reflective tone. Their melodic/metronomic/hypnotic music lulls you into a state of deep relaxation wherein Roger steps in and whispers MADNESS into Your Ear.

"one of these days I'm going to cut you into tiny pieces" refers to a BBC Radio DJ who used to talk waaaaay too much. The guys discussed cutting up audio tape of him into jibberish (which I think they thought would make more sense) In the end they just used the line spoken by Nick Mason and made it sound really ominous - typical Floyd 😂
@rancidcrabtree.
@rancidcrabtree. 4 года назад
Never knew what the reference was. Thanks! I always pictured someone in an apartment (or flat) playing music loud and the distinctive drum pounding before the aforementioned line was the neighbor banging on the door or wall and explaining what they where going to eventually do to rectify the situation. LOL

I always felt that Meddle was just two outstanding songs (One of these days and Echoes) bookending filler tracks. I’ve grown to appreciate the album more as I get older, especially the track ‘Fearless’, but i can’t help feeling that if they put some more time into creating an album of songs on par with the first and last one, it would have been their first true masterpiece. A missed opportunity really.

pink Floyd are unique because they don't fit in any one genre ., and this epic proves it.,and why they are unmatched on that level. The early creative genius in this was to herald later epic album masterpieces.ie DSOTM i n 73. Echoes too me is a musical conversation that guitar DG is having with the keys and Rick Wright. Try the Live at gdansk version of this witch is the last time this track was performed Live before Rick passed away, so sad yet epic! Plenty more Floyd work for you too explore. Meddle is the album that marks the maturity of Pink Floyd. The one in which the journey of searching for oneself ends after replacing Syd with David. There is still the whole solid foundation of the psychedelic experience with Syd ... and also the one that is still earlier Blues Fanky Jazz. Then there is the new mix, four, practically complete and solid in Echoes after the last "outburst" of creating and performing a complete song each just like in the B-side of Atom Heart Mother (album that you should now "recover" : m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YmwPy8Z7RpE.html ). *analysation or analysis? The candle dies just means it goes out because the candle has burned to its end. Good music like this is very healing and motivating. 'Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd' is implying only an idiot would not be fearful in some circumstances. It would be normal to be fearful. Dogs will quite often sing along (howl along) to accoustic blues music - not sure why.
