There are guitar players out there who can shred through 50 notes in a single bar of music, but can’t finesse a slow bend and release like Gilmour. That shredding stuff is impressive from a perspective of technique and accuracy, but often lacks emotion impact. My guitar heroes play with soul. We’re all chasing Gilmour.

I have to add the late brilliant Steve Clark to the list. Always played for the song and not himself. His guitar was also an extension of his body. He had great respect for David Gilmour. RIP beautiful sensitive Steve.
@karenglenn6707

@@CoolCoyote Perhaps you need to listen to more of Steve, a classically trained musician. And more in the vein of the great Jimmy Page, but unique himself, not a copy. Never any ego in his music, just his soul. Not a shredder, but a thoughtful composer of melody and magic. I will always grieve for him and what we lost the day he died.

As a guitarist I can say that earpiercing feedback is the last thing most of us want to hear when we're playing, most see it as an annoyance that can completely ruin the music you were playing. On the contrary, David Gilmour uses that feedback to MAKE music

Back then music was made. Cars were made, that had soul, had a human touch to them. Now both these divisions are electronic and that just doesn't spark the same emotion. Could not agree more- never has a guitar been cranked-up so far and still sounded so good, so clean and so clear- almost louder (more intense?) than when the entire band were joining in.... indescribable texture to that sound that simply does not transfer to the recording. Even while hearing it, your brain was whispering ' can't take a guitar that far... it'll struggle..the strings will break.... it's going beyond the capacity of the PA system...' but somehow the wail keeps building, the internal shaking continues and you finally accept that yes, you have actually been blown away -that the LP/CD is just a tease and that Live, here and now is what a guitar can really do. Breathtaking- no one sounds that good live....

Speaking of feeling the music, you literally felt the music when seeing them play this live. David's intro and outro were so loud that it made your vital organs vibrate from within. I kid you not. And then decades later, when I saw David perform this at Madison Square Garden in '15 or '16, and after my ears had taken decades of abuse from headphones and concert going, my left ear literally stopped working during the intro part of the song due to the volume and didn't return for about 10 minutes. It scared the living shit out of me. If I see live music now I take ear plugs. So, when you boys ask how does he make those sounds, it's volume, volume and more volume (and some other stuff, lol).

Some people don't get it he is in a shredder he's not flashy he doesn't run around onstage he does his talking with his guitar pick and guitar. Definitely the best emotional guitar player in the history of music. He's also one hell of a human being. He auctioned off all of his guitars well most of them including the black strat for a record amount of money who was in the hundreds of millions I believe and took the money and donated it. He has a lot of charities he is involved with I could talk forever about what a great human being he is. The other musicians, the 2nd guitarist, the 2nd keyboardist, the bassist; the percussionist & the backing singers are all session musicians that add dimension & a bigger sound, "because they want to".

I was there for 2 of the Earls Court shows and can honestly say that seeing it twice really wasn't enough. I would happily sold everything I possessed to have been there for more but, unfortunately, I just couldn't get another ticket, no matter how hard I tried. Still, I suppose I was blessed to have been there at all.

Every song from Pulse is a masterpiece, but you definitely should see: - High Hopes - Money - Time - One Of These Days - Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Run Like Hell (on this song, the old edit actually has slightly better camera angles than the new restored version)

I’ve been to over 100 concerts in my lifetime… when I saw pulse live in 94’ nothing before or after ever came close to a live performance like that show. To see close to 90,000 people in awe at the lights, stage and sounds (which is quadraphonic) blend together was an experience, I love seeing reactions to this concert…. Beings back awesome memories

I was a teenager back in the 90’s, and I created many new Pink Floyd fans armed only with a VHS tape of “P.UL.S.E.”, a billiard table 🎱 and my parent’s home theatre system. My senior year high school I had a free 90 minute period every day at 10am, and no one was ever home at my house… So my friends and I would leave campus, smoke some 🌳, and go to my house. There would sometimes be random guys from lower grades, and this would blow their minds 😳 Zeppelin’s “the song remains the same” legendary MSG show was the other featured showing 😂

The extra instruments are to fill in the areas that were overdubbed by them on the track in the studio or provide background rhythm. Making it sound that much fuller and more like the original recording. Gilmour not only modifies his guitar... the strings and the wood of the guitar to get his sound. But all kinds of special modifications for the amplification as well that's way too technical for me to explain. Bottom line, he achieves a sound that is instantly recognizable as his - David 'Pink Floyd' Gilmour.

Pink Floyd created SO MUCH phenomenal music over the years, but this has always been my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE from them. David Gilmour is the greatest guitarist to have ever lived, and he's NEVER had a better example of what he's TRULY capable of than this.

I was at this concert in Earls Court, it was an unbelievable performance which I wouldn't have missed for the world. Sorrow was one of my favourites, another you could cover which everyone else seems to miss out was Dogs of War. Hard to believe it was 27 years ago! Try this version of Dogs of War ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XpTXHhMa_YQ.html it's not from Pulse but it's great and as a bonus has Rachel Fury in it :)

When you said at 2:28 "you can feel the bass"... I've been lucky enough to see David Gilmour play this in concert twice. As good as viewing on video is, it really cannot compare with how the bass *actually* feels when you're there! The vibrations were so aggressive when I first saw it in 2015 it almost knocked the bottle I was holding out of my hand. When I saw it again in 2016, I remembered to put the bottle down as the song started...

I'm so glad you got around to watching this one. It's my favorite from any of their live shows. Next I hope you'll review "Run Like Hell," from the same Pulse concert. It's one of the most beautiful light shows you'll ever watch, and that's why it's my second favorite on Pulse.

I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap frogged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…

This song was the best live performance I've ever seen. May 18 1994 Foxboro Stadium home of the NE Patriots it was raining and was cold but the rain made the lasers sparkle I think I had an out of body experience during the last guitar solo. I've seen this line up twice and Roger Waters 5 times including his Wall Tour and nothing came close to this song that night.

I love it. I love to see young people experiencing PInk Floyd’s incredible talent. Others have already said, many can shred a guitar, but it takes style, finesse and impeccable ability, to make you “feel” a song. Some bands songs have beautiful lyrics, catchy tunes, or hooks.....but PF has the ability to immerse you in the song and take you on a journey. There are only a handful of bands in the world with this kind of talent. You guys rock. Never loose your wonder and appreciation for good music.

You guys make me so happy. It's like reliving the days when I discovered David Gilmour. Floyd made much of the background (along with ELP) for my life in the 70's. Each time I heard something amazing, I swear that I went in the fetal position. I live next door to a 500,000 acre National forest, where I wore out Wish You Were Here and Animals when it came out. Love you, fellow Floydians. May you always bask in their light and sound.
