It's amazing listening to this... how Billy mentions being blown away by The Wall when he was a kid. Little did he know that he would eventually grow into an artist and write an album ON PAR with The Wall. That album... was Mellon Collie.
'i grew up in the 70's and 80's .... filled with this HORRIBLE AWFUL music which SOME OF YOU IN THIS ROOM ARE RESPONSIBLE for' ahauhauahau the balls... billie, don't ever change
Smashing pumpkins siamese dream was my wall album. First time I heard cherub rock I was taken away to another world. I was like 14 and I loved music, but that actually made me, make my life music. I still get chills listening to that opening riff. Untouchable.
I wondered why they asked Billy to do it. But then I realized this was early 96 from what I understand, and Billy was the biggest name in rock at that moment. So it does kind of make sense
I just simply admire billy Morgan and no one but my own father who's with God now. Can not hold a candle to his talent ! Billy Morgan is just simply heaven sent......i love you billy ,Mary Chrimas
i love how david still gave roger some love to accept the award, despite the battle they had going at the time, and to include syd. david always knew the score
WPC always credited his double concept album MCIS to Pink Floyd's The Wall... which surpasses The Wall IMHO... Also, Billy was at his peak with the MCIS album sales and tours at this point, which may be the reason he was asked.
The Wall and The Dark Side of the Moon are the soundtracks to my teenage years. Growing up in the 90s-early 20s, I didn't know anyone else that listened to Pink Floyd, so that music only lived in my own mind and experiences.
@@John-pk3oh Why would I be joking? Teenagers in the 90 and 2000s listened to Limp Biskit and Eminem, Creed, Static X....etc. Pink Floyd were boomer rock dinosaurs even then. When I started listening to Zeppelin, Floyd, etc, I didn't know anyone else who did.
I remember listening to Dark Side of the Moon by myself for the first time, and I ran out of the room with my fingers in my ears, I was around 11. Scared the hell out of me. It took me another 4 or 5 years to listen to it again.... I was getting ready for school when I first heard The Wall, and my phone was ringing off the hook..."are you listening to WMMS?" I played the hell out of that album, as most of us did.
man what a disappointment don't get me wrong I love both Pink Floyd and Billy but I was expecting Billy to solo or at least sing some of it...they practically could've just used a looping pedal instead of billy
They didn't laugh at his initial joke about how it's late and he was going to keep "his remarks to the length of an average Pink Floyd song." Buncha stiffs if you ask me! 😂
allright, discussing only one album was indeed a flaw but I think he did his research and came prepared, its just Corgan`s style of talking really, hes a bit monotone and rather humble, I think he did a great job cuz it felt very personal and not overly exagerated and full of shit. Sure, it couldve been better, but I dont think it was bad either.
Such a shame Roger couldn’t show up. He probably said , “fuck off Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t respect their fascist institution”! I don’t hate Roger, but at the end of “The Wall”, he declared, “Tear Down the Wall”!!! But he didn’t do that until Live 8 many years later. So sad they could not reunite one more time, before Rick died, and do an album NOT about Roger being fucked up because his dad died in the war!!
u u sé que leis los comentarios siempre, espero un día lleguis a este video (fijo sí) y te enteris mediante este comentario q aun pienso mucho en ti y esto me emocionó caleta. A veces todavía quisiera que estuvieras aquí.
I like Billy but he sometimes can be a little self absorbed, like he is the spokesperson for the pained and tortured of soul. He's a great artist with the pumpkins but I wish he would keep his melancholia restrained in regards to injecting it into other of my favorite bands. He made this experience of seeing Floyd thoroughly depressing somehow - even though he was just sitting at the back with his bald headed nosfaratu look.
elijah pink he's overrated imo. His voice ruins half their songs. SP was just unlike any other band at the time. Does anyone even know about the other band members in SP? Billy is narcissistic. He wasn't Smashing Pumpkins all by himself. And he should come clean about his involvement with Courtney Love. He was jealous of Kurt Cobain imo. He tries to ruin bands to this day. Like Imagine Dragons. Telling people they are the new Nickelback. I'm not saying ID is the best band in the world but they certainly aren't Nickelbackish! And their lead singer has a hell of a better voice than Billy, who is just a miserable soul. He doesn't even understand Nihilism nor it's negative effects on a generation but likes to throw the word around. He can't handle that people don't worship him anymore.
@@erinhand he was about to turn 28 i think... i'm 47, my birthday is in march, in February I'll start saying i'm 48, cause i'm a lot closer to 48 than 47. Always done it that way.
Jaskier Listen to it again. It’s The Wall of the 90’s generation and from what I remember sold more records then Pink Floyd. Both are truly masterpieces.
richardmaggio1979 ..... just assuming The Wall sold more because some people bought it on 4 different formats ... Vinyl , 8-track , cassette , cd ....a lot of old albums have inflated numbers due to this I think
Guy Smiley very overrated musician. I've had to give my teen self a good talking to because she was having a hard time accepting this. He's just a miserable, morbid soul and today he goes around trying to ruin other musicians careers because, yeah, he's miserable. It's hard to pick up on his misery because of those dimples which give him a somewhat friendly face but in a psychopathic sort-of-way.
Lol billy is as good a guitar player as anyone, technically and ability to write songs. Listen to any of his works and you'll find guitar melodies that are lush and emphatic, the guy can wield an axe that's for damn sure.
What I’m guessing is that he just had that random print of the cd cover laying around and needed something to write his speech down so he just used that
