This doc is obviously biased and full of bs (as well as factually incorrect in several parts). Roger most definitely did not spit on a fan because he requested a song. It was because the idiot kept setting of fireworks and climbing on the fence separating the stage, which Roger had requested several times for people to stop doing, Still not very diplomatic, but no where near the same thing.

Finally, an unbiased Floyd doc that shares the credit for their success, instead of simply catering, like Rolling Stone mag, to Waters' ridiculous claims to full credit for himself.
@nectarinedreams7208
@nectarinedreams7208 Год назад
Waters has never tried to claim full credit for himself outside of that very brief period where he thought they couldn't continue without him. He's since acknowledged that was wrong. To be fair, the music they produced without him was utter shite, or to be kind, mediocre, so he was sort of right. They just wanted to make as much money as possible off the Pink Floyd brand and he didn't. I know who I respect more.
@GregoryMichaelKlein
@GregoryMichaelKlein Год назад
@@nectarinedreams7208 "Never" In almost every PF-related interview I see with him, he takes full credit for Floyd's work. I take it you're a fan of Water's unlistenable ranting that he made without out the rest of Floyd. Waters made way more than all the members off Floyd, because he demanded full credit for songs that other contributed.

Thank you to all the Pink Floyd fans who suggested titles for this RARE,STUDIO BOOTLEG from '69. This song; 1. Was around 6 minutes long and was sung by,I believe Roger 2. It featured an upbeat renissance-like organ melody which sounded like a psychedelic WALTZ and a trippy middle 8 guitar solo with wah-wah and distorted sounds 3. The lyrics were of one's reminiscing of a young love with movements captured in time and still flowing in his mind This song wasn't "summer of '68". It was UP-TEMPO which Floyd did from time to time in the early days. If anyone recognizes the description of the above song,please feel free to offer more title suggestions Thanks!❤

I think your question should be: What would have happened had Syd not destroyed his brain and exposed his mental illness? For all we know, the Schizophrenia is what fueled his creativity in the first place, but when he began taking trips, those same parts of his brain began being blocked off... brick by brick... and his mind, especially the parts that made Syd shine as he did were blocked off from the rest of the world. All that was left was his physical vessel and lingering memories of a life he would never get back to. I do agree that it's a very sad and tragic story, though.

Besides Alice In Chains I have never been more fascinated with a band than P.F. After 35+ yrs as a fan I am still obsessed with there music and the actual history of the band. I was watching a 2014 interview with David and he was lookin old- Roge still looks good but I really think they should re-unite and I am completely against rock bands re-uniting but P.F. would def be worth seeing, come on Dave it's Roger's band anyway.

I often think that Layne Staley was what would have happened if Syd Barrett had started using smack instead of dropping acid. Both of their stories are a kick in the nuts when you go through and listen to the music and watch the interviews. Syd losing himself always breaks my heart to think about, but Staley's story brings me to tears. Both were such beautiful, creative human beings who got lost in hells of their own respective designs.

The style of the band at this point was heavily indebted to the first Pink Floyd album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but filtered through their own color spectrum. The Pink Floyd connection went beyond mere sonic hat tipping, since Alice Cooper played host to Pink Floyd on the British band's first U.S. tour. “We were the house band at the Cheetah for a period of time in ’67,” Smith recalls. “One of the perks was we could go see any of the bands playing there. Pink Floyd were there one week. I remember the first or second song they played, Syd went up to sing and boom! A spark came from the microphone and hit his lip. He just put his arms down to his sides, backed about a foot away from the stand and just stood there like a statue for the rest of the night. After the show, they came back to our house and partied with us all night long. Syd walked in like a zombie. He didn’t talk to anybody, he just stood there. He seemed a bit psychotic, and the mass quantities of LSD certainly didn’t help.” Read More: Alice Cooper Drummer Neal Smith Recalls the Early Days | ultimateclassicrock.com/alice-cooper-neal-smith-interview-2018/?

Ooopsy's my bad, I know they did that one show where Dave "allowed" Roger to play with them and at the end of the show Roger was congratulating all the members of the band and I remember watching Dave's awkward reaction to Roger. (do you have any idea what I am talking about?) I think it was "Live 8" and at the end of the show Roger literally had to wave Dave over like "come on dude get over here" And the whole show Roger was really into it and Dave Nick and even Richard kinda seem to be just goin through the motions.

I am a die hard fan of the floyd for years but recently ive had a change of heart regarding syd. Barret could write very catchy very English pop songs but he was primarily a visual artist. Roger sapped every bit of talent he could from syd before "forgetting" to pick him up for a gig. After cutting him out of the band guilt overwhelmed them so they put together a couple of compilation albums syd could get royalties from to stay financially sound. They (Roger and David )are still not welcome by the Barret family. Not hard to imagine when a bunch of non medical doctors (many who never met syd) are diagnosing syd as schizophrenic. This video really makes me sad for the Barret family. I know at least one commenter wasn't even born when Syd was at the height of popularity.

At a certain point in a persons spiritual growth he starts to see how insane humanity is but he can't see that this insanity and shallowness is a reflection of himself ( himself being "the self" the essence of everything) and so he projects all the rage and anger onto 'others' which is reality is only his own unresolved issues. This is what was happening to Roger in the late 70's. These days he's much calmer and saner.

More than half this is involving Syd, even though his involvement in the band amounted to 2 years and 1 full album. I've always felt he was overated and the band went on to record what 13? more albums over 3 decades. note that when journalists talk bout the 67' floyd they often forget to mention that the band were called freaks and hued everywhere they played but the UFO club. It also seriously irritates me, that according to the reporting of MANY dummies, I suppose Nick Mason doesn't exist..?! Let any band try to function properly without rhythm..... He isn't flashy like Tommy lee, or Ginger Baker, but, I personally think that He's pretty damn good!....prog. Rock isn't the easiest Music to drum to- not unlike fusion jazz- but, Nick Mason has the knocks to pull it in- check out the Pompeii movie-, Saucer full of Secrets-(and Echoes)...-go to G+ Pink floyd -pompeii..it isn't blocked there.... criol1 Really?!! That’s your explanation?? The fact is that Waters was a good lyricist BUT an aggressive egomaniac, who was aware of his obvious limitations as a musician. DAVID GILMOUR on the other hand, shy and modest, brought the band to its heights with his genius music (which mainly he composed) and brilliant vocals. Waters’ huge ego (ALPHA male) would not allow him to co-exist with a man of such great talent. Waters’ unhealthy competition, rivalry and jealousy ultimately destroyed the group.

Roger Waters, an intelligent but over ambitious artist, wrote interesting lyrics, but as a musician, was very much aware of his limitations when compared to David GILMOUR’s musical genius. The latter, despite being shy and modest, was the MAIN drive behind the band’s enormous success in the 1970s. David’s very handsome looks, coupled with being a brilliant lead guitarist, a great vocalist and the main author of their music was simply TOO MUCH for Waters’ self-centered & aggressive alpha-male personality. Waters’ huge ego & controlling behavior made it impossible for him to co-exist on stage beside a man of such great talent. His unhealthy rivalry and jealousy ultimately destroyed the group.

There is a difference between being a great creative instrumentalist and or singer, and being a creative piece and song creating musician, I have been around enough in music to know the big question; who is going to give us the material, to work on,, Roger led on that considerably, Without the song, nothing much happens,

A band is multiple parts. Like a sports team its pretty impossible to say "THIS person is responsible". Dave is basically a blues guitarist, listen to The Wall, they are just blues riffs. Even he admits it. But you cannot skip mention of producers and engineers, Alan Parsons on Dark Side, and Bob Ezrin on The Wall. Ironically while Roger rails against 'the machine', in large part Floyd was successful BECAUSE of the machine. The Wall, according to Ezrin, was as unlistenable as stated, it was made into what it was, but to listen to Comfortably Numb and say its JUST the lyrics or JUST the music would be downtright crazy. Its like looking at a painting and arguing whether its teh colour or the lines.

He developped schyzophrenia and yes, taking acid does not do any good, but he would have developped it anyway! Maybe a bit later but in the end it would have been the same. Two friends of mine were diagnosed with schyzophrenia. One was smoking pot and the other was absolutely straight and never even drank a beer but none of them were doing LSD. So this kind of poetic narration telling that "he has lost his mind in a flow of acid" or "they watched their good friend fade away in lysergic dreams" type of thing is completely biased (like most of this documentary by the way...) and is far from the reality of this terrible disease which has nothing romantic or poetic. Ask any psychiatrist. I'm not saying that LSD has nothing to do with that. I'm saying it's an accelerator that, in itself, does not contains the "germs of mental illness" so to speak...

It's kinda amazing the difference between their first album (Piper) and the rest...It seems when David GIlmore came into the picture their talent just skyrocketed. I do like Piper At The Gates Of Dawn...kinda....but it almost feels like an album that is trying it's hardest just to be psychedelic. The lyrics make no sense for the most part. A couple of the songs have a decent sound to them. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but that's the way it is with music.

Roger Waters IS Pink Floyd, he knows he is 😊

Syd was Pink. Waters/Gilmour/Wright/Mason are Floyd. Waters and Gilmour only attempted to fill Pink's shoes once the original drifted away.

Wauw this is one *biased* "documentary" David, Nick, and Wright, couldn't write a song if their life depended on it. sure they can play their instruments (except for Nick, he weren't able to play the drums on Mother, Jeff Porcaro played the drums on Mother, due to the changing time signatures) Waters made *his* albums (Dark side, Wish you were here, Animals, The wall. He used the band members as 'hired musicians' ..After he left the band, there were no more Pink Floyd.
