We just planted two of these here in zone 6b after much debate on which Hydrangea to choose, but thanks to your video we decided to go with Pinky Winky. Thank you.

I think you will be really happy with how easy-care Pinky Winky Hydrangeas are, Carl! They are still my favorite, even with the other varieties I have. If they’re small, you won’t have to prune them this Spring. I have a video on whether or not to prune “young” hydrangeas recently planted, and I also have a pruning video on how I prune Pinky Winky hydrangeas when the time comes for you to prune them. I hope these videos also are helpful. Please keep me posted on how you like them, and if you have any questions - just ask! 🌸

Hey SJ NJ garden neighbor! 🙋‍♀️ You’re Pinky Winky’s are GORGEOUS! I bought and planted 6 of these to replace a dead arborvitae hedge ( all the arborvitae’s died in my neighborhood) And so your video answered a lot of my questions. My main concern was that, they wouldn’t turn pink 😮 Some say that the pink varieties of hydrangeas do not always turn to their pink color..have you ever encountered this problem?
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 месяца назад
Hi fellow southern NJ neighbor! 👋 And apologies for my delay in responding! I hope your own Pinky Winky shrubs are filled out and starting on their wonderful flower show! Mine are just starting with some white flowers, with all of this extreme heat we've been having. Yours will turn pink - no worries! Unlike other varieties of panicle hydrangeas - which are very dependent on the night temperatures being cool enough - Pinky Winky shrubs have no problems going from white...to pink and white...to eventually all pink in the Fall. 👍 In fact, I just was checking if I missed any comments here, because my latest video is a complete guide to growing and caring for Pinky Winky Hydrangeas, and this is one of the questions I answered. 😊 Let me know how yours are doing so far!

Hi Love & Light -- Fall is a great time to plant these shrubs -- mid-September is exactly when I first planted mine. If you do a search on Google for Pinky Winky Hydrangea, and then hit the "shopping" tab at the top of the search results, you'll see where you could order a Pinky Winky via online nurseries. I've ordered plants online, including panicle hydrangeas, with luck. In fact, I just noticed that Proven Winners is selling them direct from their website right now. I've ordered from them with good results. The plants you get will be small -- but if you get them in the ground now, they will be great next Spring. These are fast growers and heavy bloomers, so you are sure to have a wonderful show next season, although the shrubs might not achieve their full-size growth just yet. I hope these options help! I think everyone should have one of these! 🌸

@GardenSanity 3 года назад
Hi Linda -- Little Limes -- I have them also -- bloom a bit later than Pinky Winky hydrangeas, so mine still have the lime color too. The parts of the shrub that are in full sun seem to be turning white already, so I think it is only a matter of time. I hope this helps!

I've just bought a pinky winky and I love the orange rocket Berberis with it. It compliments it so well. I think I'm going to have to buy one of those too. How old are yours in the video and have they grown much since you bought them? Would you say they grow fast? That's the impatient gardener in. me haha! Also do you prune them?
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 года назад
My Pinky Winkies were planted in 2014, and I added the Orange Rockets in 2016. They were small shrubs, probably about two feet tall when planted. I think they have grown nicely but not aggressively over the past six years. They grow taller rather than wide. I haven’t given them any pruning other than trimming a branch here or there. I considered pruning them this year, but haven’t done so yet. I want to tidy them up and reduce their size just a bit. But it isn’t really necessary. I love the combination and am so glad that you do too! These are both easy-care, and so pretty well into the Fall. The barberry gets pretty red berries in Winter that the birds love too! ❤️ I hope this helps! 🙂

I have a video listed above in the Description area (below the video) where you can click the link and watch! It's wonderful that they flower on new wood -- it makes everything so easy not having to worry about "old wood" flowers! Do you have any video about Tiger Eyes Sumac? I am considering this one with Lemony Lace. Can you make a video compare two of them, please
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 года назад
Thanks for your question, but I don't have either of those shrubs in my gardens. I only make videos of what I currently grow, as I can speak honestly and realistically about my own experience growing what is in my garden beds. A brief Google search showed me that one has flowers while the other doesn't, and that the heights are different. One can be full sun while the other is partial to full sun. Best suggestion for you is to make a list of features of one of the two plants, then look up the other one to compare those features on the internet. That should help you with your decision. Happy gardening! 🙂

@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 3 года назад
Hi Cindy, these four Pinky Winky Hydrangeas were planted in the Fall of 2014. I'm guessing each was about two years old in their nursery buckets, so these are probably about 10 years old now. These were definitely the larger size. The only reason to go with the larger size is the plants are more established so will transplant easier, in my opinion. They grow fast each year, despite pruning them down to about 3 feet in the Spring. I know the large size is more expensive, but I do think you'll have an easier time with the shrub(s) getting established. (Not trying to spend your money!) 🙃🙂 On the other hand, purchasing smaller shrubs is easier on the wallet, and those shrubs will catch up in roots and growth within probably two years easily. Let me know what you decide!

what would recommend for fertilizer
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity Год назад
Hi Jason - Pinky Winky is a panicle hydrangea, and panicle hydrangeas love an acid-based soil. So the best fertilizer to use is an organic, slow-release, acid-based one. The one I use is Holly-tone by Espoma. Just once a year in Spring after pruning is all I do. I hope this helps! 🌸👍
