Pinoy Joyride - Asin Nangalisan San Pascual Road Joyride 

Notice that the La Union portion of Asin Road is so wide that locals park even on the bridges. But once the road enters Benguet, the road becomes narrow - that was how narrow Kennon Road was up to the early 1970s. Its a bit confusing that to go to Baguio from BenCab museum, we follow Highway 233. But at a certain junction - we again see Asin Road this time on Highway 234. Confusing....

It would be a nice road to drive on but only on the La Union portion where it has wide shoulders. In Benguet it is as narrow as it was when Asin Road was open in the 1920s's.Adding to the width handicap are the numerous high rise residential bldgs. built right on the RROW property line [as witnessed by all those government built retaining walls where house on stilts pile one on top of the other]. One can say that the area, like most of post-Commonwealth Baguio City and Benguet province, lost all continuity in urban zoning. Areas beside a road, like Asin, are public lands but are not forest reserves. So settlers can legally stake a claim by building their houses on stilts over steep ravines so that their front door is right on curb side level. Then they apply to city hall for a patent and start paying real estate tax. This gives the builder of the structure priority to claim the land when the government decides to allow private property ownership after several years. Its a judicial process so documentation is critical and it may take 5 to 10 years. But if there is no opposition and if the DENR declares its level of disaster risk as safe for habitation, the builder can now apply for a title of ownership in his/her name. Having said that - the traffic on Marcos highway has to be so bad as you start queueing Baguio in bound as far as Tuba Benguet where the tunnel gallery and viaduct are. This only happened once. Although Asin Road might make a great Miata kind of driving road , the lack of any scenic relief from the jumble of houses and teetering buildings that crowd the curb - its a thanks-no-thanks kind of offer. Also the entire road itself is lined with concrete parapets - it just looks like its absent in some sections because the pavement was topped up by another thicker slab - but there are concrete parapets.

Took this route on my way down from Baguio last week. Wow! Challenging route but enjoyed it.

Ito yung nadaanan namin noong Jan 18 papuntang Baguio. Dito yung tinuro ng waze. Nashock kami na may tunnels pala pero ang ganda ng daan. pagdating namin ng baguio Bencab ang nadaanan namin.

Yes! umakyat ako nun Dec 25 at dumaan ako dyan.. Medyo masikip ang daan at sariwa pa (Bagong gawa). Wala pang masyadong Road Signages. at matatarik ang curves. (Ingat lang mga biyaheros).

Nice nice nice👌👌👌. Pinanuod ko ito kanina bago matulog. Bagay ito sa mga gusto ang challenge sa pagmamaneho at sa mga kating-kati ang paa sa akyatan. Malaki na ang inimprove niya from anduyan bridge towards asin town proper maayos na ang kalsada. Road signs and some markings ang kulang at sana nung kinonstruct nila yung kalsada nilagyan na nila ng shoulder lane(bit more wide). The Asin Tunnel will be one of the featurette here, can be a picture magnet ala abra tunnel. Also eto rin yung route papuntang BenCab museum, a national artist living in baguio.

Ito dapat mga projects na ginagawa natin. Kaso pagdating sa mga tulay bakit mga railings na naman yung design. Pwede ba lagyan at isama sa design yung architectural aspect ng tulay para pag nakita ng tao maganda na sa mata ma identify mo agad yung tulay.

Sir Dimitri i haven't seen you do the baler to nueva ecija via bongabon road. I passed there last dec 29 and road was very good. Was twisty all the way. I think you'll love it. Traverses the aurora memorial national park. Halos ilan lang na private cars nakasalubong namin.

27:50 pasikat masyado 'yung Tucson. Masyadong kumpiyansa na walang kasalubong. Anyway, nice road trip. Ito siguro ang version ng Casile Road sa Tagaytay pababa ng Nuvali (The Other way round sa Sta. Rosa) . I knew this road exists before dahil napadpad ako sa BenCab noon banda and have no idea na may ginagawa pala na pababa ang kalsadang iyan. Nakakatakot lang sa landslide 'yan. Nice music as well. Nakaka-relax manood.
