Check out the Pintail Longboards by Original Skateboards here:
originalskateb...
Original Pro Aleix Gallimo takes a break from the European IGSA tour (pre-Kosokov) to have some pintail fun in the sun.
Aleix is rocking an Original Pintail 46 with a slightly... modified... tail. If you ever get the chance to hit Barcelona in the summer time, do it, though we can't necessarily recommend kickflips in sandals. Axel Serrat man's the camera with Aleix behind the cut.

I know right? I mean damn I would kill to be in spain shredding that beach road with Aleix again. Good people with the right attitude and thankfully they go over the first hump with Covid-19 (wish I could say the same for us in the U.S.) Regardless if you are holed up stuck in the house the way I am definitely ring the 'Alert All' bell. We are releasing new videos but RU-vid isn't showing the alerts to our subscribers. Here's me starting to build a proto-lab in the garage where we started Original in 2002: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8s-M0Wz5MzE.html Keep in touch dude! _Scott

Sounds like a Pintail would be a great board for you, assuming that you are focused more on carving than on sliding. Original Pintail (probably the Pintail 40 for someone your size!) are absolutely amazing carvers, particularly with Original trucks. That being said they are not great for holding out big slides. Original trucks let you carve tighter, and actually make sliding initiation (the start of the slide easier) but you give up stability and the ability to hold long slides.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
A Pintail sounds like it would be great for you! They come in 4 different sizes depending on your height. The Pintail 37 and 40 will be a bit easier for carving, and the 43 and 46 will be a bit more stable for cruising or smaller hills. You may also want to check out the Derringer 28 which is a mini longboard and a great carving board! -Lindsay

@jankolbe2879
@jankolbe2879 9 лет назад
Anna Phelan If dancing is your main goal then I would not go with a pintail shaped board tbh. They are great for cruising, carving, maybe sliding and downhill if they're stiff but I would look for a specific dancer board with more space to walk back and forth and maybe tail and nose if you'd like to add some shuvits and tricks like that to your repertoire.
@annaphelan635
@annaphelan635 9 лет назад
Jan Kolbe I was thinking of a Dervish Sama, which can be used as a dancing board, but I'm still deciding on this one, or the Dervish. I love going down hills, and cruising but I really want to take up dancing, and the board I have at the moment isn't great for hills, nor dancing. (It's too small and it speed wobbles) So I really don't know :|
@jankolbe2879
@jankolbe2879 9 лет назад
I recently purchased the Gravity 43 drop kick which is a really nice all around board. Your requirements are pretty versatile as a dancer tends to be more of a flex board while a downhill board is more stiff. The 43 drop kick might be a good choice to combine all of those, as it's a medium flex board which has some space to dance on while being dropped which is nice for commuting. It also has a kicktail for tricks and when you're standing closer to the trucks it gets a lot less flexy which is nice for higher speeds. You might wanna check that out. I wanted to get into dancing and freestyle tricks while loving the feel of a pintail and that board has been a lot of fun in the last weeks for me :)

Aleix has a world cup victory to his name. If he wants to skate in flops, my guess is he knows what he's doing. That said, you aren't going to go out and do this just because you saw it here, and I sure as hell am not, my guess is no one else is either. Skate for fun and don't take this stuff so seriously, sometimes you gotta go outside the box.

11 years ago when this video was uploaded, was the first time I began dreaming about someday to start learn skating on a longboard. After all these years, i've finally bought one, and i think i'm improving good. Also i'm probably the only Longboard guy in my tiny town, so i guess i hold a special title. i'll be the only, and the best Cruisier in town. 😎
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards Год назад
That may be exactly how all of this started. There were literally zero people on a longboard in our town when we figured... Hey fuck it, let's make something different? I guess the most important thing is just doing what gets you through to the next day, the next and possibly far more important piece is doing, everyday, what will get us through whatever life throws at us in the future. When that's just putting your feet on a board... Things get a lot easier. Thanks for the reminder to get out there before it gets dark!
@originalskateboards

Hey Crazy, Any truck can squeek, it's not just Originals. A good fix is to use bar soap shavings as lubrication. Get a cheese grater (hopefully one you dont need) and then a bar of soap (irish spring or something). Create shavings and then put those shavings inside of the truck where the wavecam contacts the metail housing tube it sits in. If you need help assembling / disassembling your trucks check out our how to channel; youtube / originalhowto
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
For cruising on flats you really don't need to make many modifications. If you wanted to jump up to better bearings (like bones reds or something like that) I think thats a great upgrade. Some inexpensive high quality wheels like Abec 11 flashbacks would also be a good match. Much beyond that and I don't think its necessary since most of the time you won't really be riding at high speeds etc. If you think you WILL be you might want to swap to Caliber trucks instead of Originals for stability
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Honestly I would really lean toward the Pintail 37. There is no reason you need to carry around a lot of lumber when you are a smaller rider. The Pintail 37 was built for your height / weight and I think you are going to have a lot of fun on it. Of course you might want to think about something more speed capable if you are going to be bombing / sliding, but for cruising and carving you cant beat a Pintail 37 / Pintail 40.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Kris, Just setup a friends brother on a Pintail 46 who is about your size (little shorter, but same weight). I had him try the Pintail 43 and then the Pintail 46 and he liked the bigger board better. He has pretty big feet and I think he liked the width of the Pintail 46 and ended up going with that. Personally I think you could go with either the Pintail 43 or Pintail 46 and be happy, either one is plenty strong enough to handle your weight and I think would fit well. #Stoked
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
I guess that depends on who you ask. In my opinion penny boards are one of the worst boards to start out on since the entire act of standing on them is more difficult. Of course you could also argue that they are mega cheap which is a plus, but personally I think starting on a Penny doesn't give you a real feel for what a skateboard (or longboard) can do. It's all a matter of opinion though to be sure.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
No way, perfect size. I am 5'11 and helped design the FR41. Either the Freeride 41 RockerConcave or the Drop Freeride 41 would be the two boards I would like to see you jump on in that series. The 44 is probably too big and the Freeride 38 is for sure too small for you at 6 feet, or at least it's too small for me in my opinion (which I guess is really what I am sharing haha). Stoked to see what you think of those boards, really fun and easy to initiate slides on for sure.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey IB, for cruising and carving a Pintail 40 with some S8 trucks would be a really killer board for you. Maybe even stack it with caliber 50s instead on the trucks if you want some more stability at speed. That said I might lean more toward something like the Drop Freeride 41 (still cheap at $99) if you want to do more sliding etc. Your wait and height fall perfectly for those two. Actually the Arbiter 36 KT certainly is worth a look aslo come to think of it.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
You can ride anything you want to ride that's for sure. There are lots of people who like shorter boards or longer boards, it is a matter of opinion but also effects performance. As a smaller rider that pintail 46 is going to be super big, if it was me I would go smaller but again, its all about you and what you like, no one else is going to be riding that thing as much as you will.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Sounds like a plan to me Fable. Always good to build forward on a quiver as oppose to just replace a board. Maybe take a look at the Drop Freeride 41, Arbiter 36 or even an Apex (if you are into tricks) to build some more sliding capacity into your quiver with your second board. The reality is that no one board can do everything, all serious riders have a quiver, even if its just one longboard and one shortboard for mini pipes etc.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Mike, Haven't caught anything on the new never summer stuff as of yet man, I did a lot of cruising and visiting as far as our dealers are concerned so I have seen my fair share of the never summer line (which always looks good) I just don't have any current experience with it. Similarly on the Arbor stuff though I would consider James Kelly one of the most enjoyable guys on tour to hang out with. There fore, boards are prob good too : )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Emile, I assume by double truck you mean Gullwing Sidewinders? If so those are sort of a no-go for sliding. They were developed to compete with Original trucks which are crazy good for carving, and very good for slide initiation, but not good at all for high speed stability or holding out long slides. I would swap trucks and maybe go with something like an Arbiter 36 ($99) or Drop Freeride 41 ($99), alternately take a look at the Apex 37 DC if you want to add some tricks to those slides.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Well sort of haha The board that works for you will be different from the board that works for Aleix (the rider in this video). How tall and how heavy are you? Also what type of riding do you want to do? Cruising and carving are generally what you see here in this video with a few slides here and there. For that stuff the Pintail 46 is a great option for those who are a little taller etc, but the board for you does need to take into account your size as a rider.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
If you like big boards it was a great move. As a smaller rider you may have trouble turning many boards on the longer side, the Pintail 46 will NOT be one of those. Assuming you got the super wide S10 Original trucks on there you will be fully able to carve and control the deck (which is pretty awesome for someone your size, on a 46 inch long deck). This has a lot to do with the trucks and less to do with the board, BUT, it is a really great big board / big carving setup for a small rider.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
For sliding and carving, with some freestyle thrown in, there really is no better board than the Apex. I might look at either the Apex 40 or the soon to be released Apex 37 DoubleConcave for that sort of stuff. Big upside as far as durability / tricks. If you don't particularly care about tricks / freestyle, the Drop Freeride 41 is another great option that is decidedly cheaper, though not nearly so good for freestyle. If you want to mix in some downhill bombing etc thats a great option.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hmm, well if you want to do tricks and dancing you might want to look at the Apex 40. The Apex series has a lot of reinforcement that was developed to keep the deck strong through the worst freestyle you can throw at it. Between the carbon reinforcement and the noseguards the only problem we have at this point with that board is that it lasts so long we don't ever sell two to the same person. Of course for pure dancing you don't need that, but take a look if you are into tricks etc : )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Well its never necessary to go fast. At first its much easier to slide at slower speeds than at faster speeds. As you improve it will become easier in many ways to slide at faster speeds than it is to slide at slower speeds (or at least hopefully it will). The Arbiter is a good match (short wheel base) for controlling slides at any speed. Another deck to look at would be the Drop Freeride 41 which can ease slide initiation but doesnt have quite so much fine tuned control as the Arbiter.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Chave, First off, we are stoked to get someone new on a board even if it isn't one of ours. So no worries there haha Of course there is a difference between the cheapo stuff and what we are doing but the main thing we would rather see you do is build on what you have, build out your quiver, and add functionalit by adding other boards. If you have an Atom that's a pintail, getting an Original Pintail wouldnt be that different, we would rather see you get a Freeride 41 etc in that case : )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Right on, Well I think really the only tough part here is getting it to you under that 150 euro max. Usually shipping from here to the EU costs about $60USD (roughyl 45 euros). So 30% of what you have is gone to shipping. One thing you could do is check out the Arbiter 36 deck. It ships for free (to Belgium also) and gets there in 3 to 5 days. Its $99USD or roughly 75EUR. That would leave you with 75 EUR to buy trucks and wheels. BUT thats just one solution : )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Always good to have both Jul. You can never do everything you can do on a skateboard on a longboard and you can never do everything you do on a longboard on a skateboard. So while it's all skating, MOST of us need more than one board to accomplish all of the different sorts of riding we want to do. But having a versatile quiver is a good thing not a bad thing! Have fun on that skate deck and maybe have a look at one of the decks from us over here at Original Skateboards next time around : )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Nubez, No problem at all, sorry this one was a little delayed haha The thing is that there are lots of great boards, which one is best depends on what YOU personally are using it for. The deck that I want for sliding, a bit of light downhill, carving, cruising and throwing freestyle tricks WILL NOT be the same as my best deck for racing. I rock an Apex 40 DiamondDrop for all around stuff, and then downhill either an Arbtier 36 or a Maven 35. What type of riding are you doing?
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Mistakes are a pretty far difference from lies haha I don't know anyone around here who cares enough what trucks you ride to lie about what trucks are in the video ; ) That said, I ride Paris sometimes so I personally have even less to say about it and would recommend them for carving and pretty much anything above the pure slow speed stuff which Original trucks still rock at. Paris or Calibers for sure over 20mph.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Hunter, As far as the stuff from us here at Original Skateboards is concerned that Pintail 43 would certainly work. It is going to be much more focused on carving (thats really where it kills it) and cruising than anything related to higher speeds, hills and sliding. That said, you could certainly look at the Freeride 41 (not much more expensive and WAY better for high speeds and sliding) or the Drop Freeride 41. Both cruise well, and slide great, but just aren't as carving focused.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey WillyD, Are you thinking straight cruising / carving around or are you going to get into sliding and downhill and that sort of stuff? For cruising and carving I would take a look at the Pintail 43 or Pintail 46. For some cruising but also sliding etc, I would lean more toward the Freeride 41, or Drop Freeride 41, or even the Drop Freeride 44 if you like big boards. The Arbiter 36 or Maven 35 would be good options also, but they are more geared toward straight DH / Sliding performance.

It get's the chicks. It also get's the dudes so really your preferred orientation has nothing to do with effectiveness. Also most of the motions in longboarding are related to slowing down or speeding up. Carving is one of the only things that can be slightly modified to do both. Upper body motions can be a part of dictating the direction and effectiveness of a carve or slide (but also help maintain balance, particularly for beginners).

A good friend of mine is 6'4 and loves the heck out of the Pintail 46. Which is a coincidence as Aleix is actually riding that board in this video (though he chopped the tail off, for what reason I am not totally sure haha) If you want to go with great carving and cruising / flatland / small hill performance I honestly would check out the S8 trucks. If you want more stability but less slow speed maneuverability a traditional truck like a Paris, Caliber or Bear would help you more w/ bomb runs

Although it isn't out yet, we are currently prototying a new deck made of vertically laminated sabre tooth tiger fangs. SUPER stiff from all of that ivory reinforcement, great for mammoth slides which is right up your alley. The only problem is wheels, all of the thane we have tried just keeps sinking into the tundra as the perma frost melts in summer (damn you global warming), maybe we should be prototyping during winter?
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hmm, two for one eh? Don't know if we have ever had a question like that before haha It depends on the type of riding you want to do. For pure carving and cruising, good slide initiation but very low stability for high speed downhill / high speed sliding, the Pintail 40 for you, and the Pintail 37 for your lady friend. More stability but less carving performance, the Drop Freeride 41 might be a good fit for you while the Freeride 38 would work well for her I think!

Depends on your weight really, to me I usually go with black springs any time I am aiming for a surfey feel. A surfboard really has zero return to center, so even the black springs have plenty more than that. In surfing that power out of the turns all comes from your weight and the directional hold of your fins, on the Pintail it will come from the flex of the board, the return to center of the trucks and then your weight and the direction of your board.

Nah, this is just called your stance style. Left foot forward is considered "Regular" since most people are right handed, and most people who are right handed ride with their right foot back. Right foot forward is called "Goofy". Probably just because there are fewer people who ride that way (higher percentage who are right handed). It's not a choice as much as it is just a trait. It has no bearing on how good you are or how hard it is to ride. Ride how it feels most comfortable for you.

Well, first off, sounds like the board is on target. Not sure about those bearings. When we ship them they are brand new, fresh, with nothing but lube and metal on the inside. That said you can get them pretty dirty pretty quick (though it sounds like this is a little crazy). There are some great vids on RU-vid about how to clean them up. If that doesn't help, drop us a line or give us a call, we are here to back you up : )

Hey MX, I saw you ask about the Derringer in another message to make it easier to carry, while it would be lighter, and a lot of fun for carving hills and flatland, it's not going to be good for real downhill. If you want downhill focused higher speed performance you want something like the Arbiter 36. It's actually a reasonably small board at 36.9 inches, I would either rock the Derringer if you want carving or jump on the Arbiter for DH.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
The number next to the name on Original boards stands for the number of inches (sort of). Sometimes we have a board like the Arbiter 36 that is actually 36.9 inches long. But it is always the length of the board in inches (roughly). So! The Pintail 37 is 6 inches shorter (thats a lot) than the Pintail 43 and 3 inches shorter (a good bit) than the Pintail 40. Also, Pintail 37 and Pintail 43 will be stiffer based on wheelbase than the Pintail 40, so if you want flex, go with the Pintail 40.

Heck yeah they are. Pressed rigth here in North America out of the best North East U.S. maple using a glue we helped develop. No one in the U.S. is making junk, and we are certainly focused on making our stuff as good as humanly possible. But JUST to be sure you have an awesome experience, we also have the best rider support you can find..... which is why I am answering this comment right now ; ) Cheers!

You can cut the tail off any board you like, so long as you don't cut off a set of mounting brackets and forget to redrill them haha A lot of people do it because there is not a whole lot of difference between a chopped pintail cruiser and a legit topmount. While the Arbiter has some more concave and some features a chopped Pin won't have, if you HAVE a Pintail and a saw and want to have something more DH specific, its an awful lot cheaper to chop it than to but a new deck : )

@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
PIntail 40 would be great match at your height / weight for cruising. You should decide is whether you want to get into sliding at some point down the road. If the answer is yes you might want to go with something more like the Drop Freeride 41 which will be better for sliding. The Pintail 40 is WAY better at carving, but no board does everything; gotta have a quiver! I still have a Derringer for when I just gotta lay down a legit carve. Carving on a freeride board is just not the same : )

Thanks for the godo word Dread, There are a lot of people out there making longboarding look fun... probably because it is haha As a bigger guy just cruising around, the Original Pintail 46 is an awesome option. Its got a big standing platform, that's stiffer to support larger riders, but can be super nimble if you are doing mostly flatland cruising / carving (go with Original S10 trucks in that case). More / bigger hills? Swap trucks for Calibers or maybe check out the Drop Freeride 44.

Opinions certainly vary. I personally prefer the DiamondDrop as I am partial to dropped boards (not just for freeride but for tricks / crossover freestyle as well). I feel like the drop gives a little bit more feel and boost on the ollie as well (since I drag my foot against it like you might drag your foot against your nose on a shortboard). More stability (if you need it) but like I said, I think the biggest boost is in the ollie etc (if you have the pk noseguards the DDwill pop like crazy).

Haha, never had someone ask that before. Given that he just took a saw and cut the tail off I am sure we could probably do that for you, or you could do it yourself. If you are serious about us doing it for you you may have to sweet talk one of the guys into it haha, give a call and we will try to help you out.

Both boards ride very similarly. However, the Pintail 43 is compatible with S8 and S10 trucks, and the Pintail 46 is only compatible with the S10 trucks. If you want to make more aggressive carves then you may want to go with the Pintail 43 with S8 trucks. Also, he just chopped off the tail and also re-drilled the holes for a different wheelbase just to fool around. -Lindsay

Sounds like Pintail 40 Territory to me Danny. Of course that assumes that you are looking for a slightly flexible, full on carving deck. If that's the case I would look no further. That said for more sliding / higher speed stability I would seriously consider the Drop Freeride 41 or Maven 35 for a smaller rider like yourself!

No way it's going to break. I have seen guys on the Pintail 46 (which you see in this video) well over 250lbs so you will be set. Either the Pintail 43 or Pintail 46 from us here at Original Skateboards will be plenty stiff enough, I wouldn't even expect the board to flex very much. Either would be good for a bigger guy.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
The Pintail is a great choice for cruising, carving, and even learning how to slide. But if your looking for a setup that's great for sliding and a bit of carving check out the Apex 40DC. For the style of riding your looking to do I'd recommend some 50 Caliber trucks and Orangatang Stimulus 83a wheels for an easy slide. _Sean

Depends, how tall and how heavy are you? Do you prefer longer boards or shorter boards? Do you like blue waves or yellow waves? These are the things that can help us help you haha Personally I like the 46 better of those two, but that's just my opinion not a recommendation, hit us with some more info and we can help more.

Well here's the thing. Any board that rolls is a step in the right direction because skating ANYTHING is better than not skating. That said Krown does a lot of their boards (if not all) in China which is something we are not down with. So! Ride it, have fun, but pick up a deck made in the U.S.A. or Canada next time... maybe even an Original : )

Check out the Pintail series and the Derringer 28 which are all in your price range. The Derringer 28 is my favorite carving deck which feels like your surfing the streets. The Pintails come in 4 different sizes and are a cruising and carving deck for lower speeds and smaller hill riding. -Lindsay

We would rather see you hit up a U.S. built deck (whether from us or otherwise) that goes toward supporting the innovation that drives the skate industry. Doesn't have to be an Original (all of which are made in North America), just get something made in the states (or Canada, those guys are OK too)

Hi! For your size, I'd go with the Pintail 40 with S8 trucks. It's a good length for your height and is made with 7 plys of maple, so it will provide you with the right amount of stability for cruising, and the spring loaded trucks will allow you to carve easily. -Lindsay
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Personal preference I suppose. If you aren't using the tail you dont necessarily need it, a lot of times the guys chop them when they will be used for downhill, though at this point it might be easier / more effective to go with an Arbiter 36 to begin with (probably better for that end goal haha)
@originalskateboards

Hey Ryan, good to hear you are enjoying that thing man. You can get shuvs on that board for sure but for any more advanced tricks something like the apex or freeride would for sure help a lot. Like you said, the tail of the pintails is not really there for tricks!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
the Pintail 40 would be a great board for you to start on. It's easy to push with since it's low and stable, and is meant for cruising and carving. The S8 trucks will help you learn how to carve easily because they are spring loaded and initiate carves way easier than a bushing truck. -Lindsay

Hey, The Pintails will be a great board for you to start with and with our trucks it will be easy to maneuver. Our trucks use a spring, which helps them be more responsive and more fluid when turning. So you will be able to pick it up fast. I would suggest the 37" or 40" for your weight. _Davey

Sure thing, we'd be happy to help! At your height and weight we have lots of decks that would suite your size well. Is there a specific style of riding you're interested in? This will help us narrow down all of the choices to something that will be good for you! -Lindsay

Yeah man, you can totally swap over that truck / wheel setup, no problem at all. Swapping everything at once will give you a feel for the differences in boards, since you aren't changing anything else. You shouldnt have trouble with wheel bite etc, we already allowed a ton of clearance there!

Aleix was able to ride with out sandals because, well, he is Aleix, and it's Spain. Spain makes your longboarding better, even spanish sandals improve skill. Paris + Pintails is a great match, I rode Aleix's deck and had a lot of fun on it. Snag a low duro bushing and its a lot of fun on the flats.

Um, yeah, not sure who was on this the first time but those are absolutely not Original trucks haha. As the designer of both the trucks and this board I can tell you the trucks in this video are Paris, either V1 or V2 hah , Sorry about that guys! _Scott

Propelling your self forward on your board without pushing is called "Pumping" some boards are better for pumping than others but it has a lot to do with practicing / mastering the technique, and having a good board / truck combination to make it happen.

@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Retro, That form of the board (no long tail) is not available for sale, BUT you can make one, just cut the tail off! Thats why the rider (Aleix) did in this video, he cut the tail off with a saw. You can do the same : )

Noah, the Pintails are great for carving and cruising, you can bomb a hill here or there but for sliding and serious downhill you should absolutely look at something like the Arbiter 36, Maven 35 or Drop Freeride 41.

We designed our Pintail to be just that, a Pintail! Great for cruising and carving and even a bit of sliding. Some riders will cut the tail to Downhill (bomb hills / race) but, we don't recommend it. _Sean

I may be wrong on this Noah but I think that a Coleman is a Pendy. There is a tradition in skateboarding of naming the trick after the first guy to do it, that would be Cliff Coleman in this case.
