We completed a Pinterest Project. We redid our Kitchen floor in end wood brick/ cobble. We had a fun time with this project and would do it again.
Wood floor DIY. We cut the wood ourselves, sanded the wood, glued the wood in place, sealed the wood, and then grouted the cracks.
All in all this floor was a lot of work but we love it!

Looks great! Thanks for posting. Did you guys have significant drying times for the blocks before laying them? I’ve heard they can really move and shrink or crack if not. Did you guys have any issues with the grout or cracking/swelling? Thanks!

We did let the wood sit in the shed for several months. Even with that, once layered, they still shrunk. Once layered, it was about a week before we started the next step (this was only due to having other things to do).Being inside dried them fast. We placed them right next to each other, so the gap after was not too big. We had no issues with the grout. It just took a lot of wiping time to remove the excess. You wil probably find some flaws with your wood like the cracking(I would say the key to no cracking is to make sure the wood is completely dry), but our flawed pieces ended up being our favorite parts of our floor.

I have taken a bunch of oak off my mill to do this. Blocks are currently drying in the house with a dehumidifier.

Nice! How long did you end up letting your tile blocks dry out? How’d your floor come out? thanks!

@waspmeat Well, the blocks dried to 12%emc within 3 or 4 weeks. I haven't installed them yet.

@waspmeat we had them drying in the shed for a couple of months. They still shrunk a little after being brought into the house. We did have some cracking, but we were able to use them, and we loved how they looked as part of the floor.

@VanBurgers We had a dehumidifier running in the room we had them in, and stacked them like Jenga blocks. They dried fast. They are sitting in the garage now, but will be used for an office project in my shop.

How thick did you cut the ends?

My husband said 3/4.

How has the grout held up? Does the floor expand and contract and bust up the grout?

I will be honest. I am not sure. We sold the home a year ago.

Thanks anyway!!
