'The Glasgow & South Western used to insist that all Ayrshire & Wigtownshire traffic must be cleared from Girvan yard before the week-end, and on the Saturday night the Wheatley engines would go staggering up Glendoune bank with prodigious loads and the straight poker tied to the safety-valve to get more pressure. If they had too many, they would take one half up to Pinmore and return for the other. They had just returned to Girvan one night when Pinmore wired that the first half was _away_. Minus brake-van, the wagons charged down to Pinwherry and up Barrhill bank till their momentum was exhausted, then back down through Pinwherry again and up Pinmore bank, repeating this five or six times before they came to rest. Gallacher the Permanent Way inspector was staying in Pinwherry station-house that night. He said it was the busiest country station he had ever tried to sleep at - trains every ten minutes!' - David L. Smith, _Tales from the Glasgow & South Western Railway._
Lyrics: at pinwherry station one saturday night the moon it was high in the sky a weary inspector was lying awake for the very last train to go by but the engine was stuck, for the load was too great the driver he wasn't depressed take half of em' up to the top of the hill and then we'll come back for the rest So they shunted them up to the top of the hill just over the crest at pinmore and then they went back for the rest of the train as they'd done on occasions before well they coupled em' up when the message came through the driver sat down with a groan oh those wagons we left at the top of pinmore are runnin' away on their own well those runaway wagons had started to go and the brake couldn't handle the strain they shot through the station at pinwherry dip with the speed of a passenger train oh the rate they were going it carried them on damn near to the top of the hill but the gradient won but they came to a stop for a momment until they were still ah, but now that the incline was in the reverse those wagons were rollin' once more hurdling down to pinwherry again and all the way back to pinmore where they came to a stop but it wasn't for long and soon they were movin' again and somewhere behind them the driver and guard were searchin' for half of their train oh the wagons go up and the wagons go down they were doing ten minutes a trip til at last they were spent and they came down to rest at the bottom of pinwherry dip but at back at the station still lying awake the inspector was cursing the light saying I'm damned if I knew there were so many trains at the best bloody part of the night. (i couldnt find lyrics so I made these sorry)
Aha, another of daves songs in your videos, as with the others absolutely brilliant and this one with a more funny tone, if i had done this i would've put a motor bogie in a van body, but being a one off song i can see why you didnt.
Loved this so much, one of the best ones u have made, it was extra funny seeing the trucks go past the engine, and i know this song so well that i was singing along lol
I know I'm rather late as I've been quite busy recently but I love this. Once again you've nailed it with the visuals, I've not heard this song before but I absolutely adore it!
The inspector lying awake at the station literally is like know what I'mma leave I'll just take a bus or walk home I don't care I won't take the train there's already been a runaway train half the station platform going at the speed of a passenger train so why not just leave oh wait I'm kind of Trapped By The Runaway Train going at the speed of a passenger
1:50 those tankers are on the same line as the rest of the train how did they pass it(Also how did you film the runaway wagons how did you amke them move
Shhhh, we don’t talk about that 😉🤣 The wagons were moved with either an extremely small locomotive or by hand and them being thrown full speed down the line 🤣
