With Hispanic Heritage Month taking place from September 15 through October 15, this is the perfect time to visit some of the many places around Southern California that preserve the contributions, achievements, and histories of the Latinx community. While fourth graders in Fullerton learn about California history through the missions, there’s another historic landmark equally close to home: Pio Pico State Historic Park.
This “little ranch” and adobe home at Pio Pico State Historic Park is now surrounded by the communities of Whittier and Pico Rivera east of Los Angeles. Much has changed since Pico’s time, but for local and state-wide history, Pio Pico State Historic Park is a spectacular example of life in early California.
Park Hours:
Thursday and Friday: 9:30 am to 3:20 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9:30 am to 4 pm
Historic Adobe Hours:
Thursdays and Fridays: 10am to 3 pm
Saturdays and Sundays: 10am to 3:30pm
Music:
"Sentimiento" by Oscar Lopez
Available on the album: Heat

Thank you. Lived in Pico Rivera off and on with relatives. I miss it. I have stopped at park a few times last ten years, but always seem to get there when it is closed. Live in Nebraska now.

So much of early California worked so well because the old Spanish/Mexican traditions and nobility blended with a certain "Yankee energy" and this combination was more powerful than the separate cultures. A nice blend, if you will...
