Beat jump length can be displayd on laptop screen. Just check the beat jump controll in SERATO setings. Also if you enable hw remaping for 1000 srt in SERATO, you can customize the 2× /2 loop controlls to your prefered style.
Yes, an oversight on my part re beatjump - not sure how easy it would be to remap the loop [controls with the modifier key? Haven't tried - will when I get time.
@@luisjavier4813 Yes. Just enable hw remaping in Serato and you should be able to customize almost everthing that is Serato-related. If the button is MIDI its yours to remap.
@@djmyguy2101 you can use rekordbuddy if you have a Mac.. unfortunately I have a Windows laptop so that took forever. It was a bit frustrating but I was actually able to make my crates more efficient in record box. The one thing I make sure to do is I update both Serato on rekordbox with new music at the same time
@@MrInternationalSound I see. Thanks for the detailed information. I'm using ns7Iii with Serato pro and thought switching would be too much of a Hassel. I also use a Windows machine with ample memory power.
@@djmyguy2101 I would say for me personally it took a good while a couple of weeks. To get it just right but like I said you end up cleaning up your crates so much better and rekordbox. Now fair warning record box does not use recursive listing. And what that is is if you have a 2019 folder and then you have a bunch of sub crates under it and Serato you can look at the entire 2019 in rekordbox you have to go to each one individually. So that's a bit annoying. But rekordbox actually run smoother on Windows than Serato Pro in my opinion
Hi Phil pretty sure there’s a checkbox in Serato settings to show beat jump controls on the display in Serato , great video , I’m a Serato user recently got the RB version which has better functionality for your buck, may consider picking one up in the secondhand/b stock market
It would've been better to just allow the original 1000 to be used with Serato, even if it required a fee. I would've definitely paid for that. But there's no way I'm buying another $1200+ controller.
I got quoted $1099 on it. Hit up your online retailers for the best deal however I’m waiting to hopefully see a ddj800srt soon. I don’t need 4 ch’s. Not much out there for 2 ch controller guys and I have Technics/S9 setup. I’m so comfortable with 2 channels and love the free space. Meh😕
Makes you wonder if that would have been technically possible - or commercially (presumably a licence feel to Serato has to be paid/collected at some point).
Think about it this way... Pioneer doesn't make a profit if you buy a different software to theirs. They are guaranteeing that they move units one way or the other. It's just that you have to choose which software you want to run with it. The one thing people are forgetting is that the SRT was released simply because there was a demand for a Serato version of the controller. And the increase in price is simply Pioneer incorporating licensing fees into it.
Thanks Klaus. Just wanted to make the point that it is going to be a great buy for SOME people, but not ALL - don't like seeing our audience buying and wishing they'd known some of these things earlier! :)
@@digitaldjtips I hate to say this but I actually returned my reloop turntables and picked up a DDJ-1000SRT for myself. I have to say this thing freakin' rocks! I feel almost guilty because it's so easy to mix and everything I need is right there, not to mention the convenience of carrying it around as opposed to lugging 2x heavy turntables, a mixer, and various cables. I thought this would be one glorified big toy but I'm telling everyone to get one, I love it!!
Seems a bit of a half arsed effort by pioneer here. That looping function would do my nut completely 😂. I have the Rb version which seems to me far more functional. The prime 4 seems to be the next step for Serato users imo. I can see coming in the future some way to load serato to the internal drive eliminating the need for a laptop. What do others think?
It seems like all the issues you have with this controller are personal issues on how you use your hardware. This shouldn’t be compared to other controllers. It’s in a league of it’s own. It’s just a different way to get the job done. The main thing with this controller are the large mechanical jog wheels. They are so fun to play on and have a great feel. Not worried at all about not being able to use Serato’s effects because most will find that the effects that are built into this controller work better and work on all inputs. Glad they finally came out with the Serato version of this controller. Video disc jockeys like myself will never use Rekordbox box because they still haven’t been able to have “mixed media” crates even after 5 versions of their software.
It's not about me, it's about what users expect Patrick. As I said in the piece, for some, this unit will be awesome - it's a great controller. For others, they'd be better off with a controller that mirrors Serato better - like Pioneer's own SX3. All that said, of course I'm going to point out my thoughts - it's up to the viewer to decide if those issues are important to them or not. It seems for you, for instance, that this is a great choice!
Hi Phil, great video. I wanted to address your issue with beat jump. If you go into the settings and then under the DJ Preferences / Control Preferences there is an option you have to check to "show beat jump controls" then you will see you beat jump selected parameters underneath the loop section in your software
Yes! That was what I was looking for. Now next question - do they show on the display along with the other loop info? I hope they do - can't wait to check! Thanks Nick.
Man ive messed around on so many controllers and the DDJ SX 1,2,3 and Numark NS6 stttttilllll absolutely kick ass. Yes they maybe dated but all these efffects and shit ya dont need if ya know how to mix properly
Thanks for this video Phil! Being a Denon DJ fan myself, I was blown away when I saw the announcment of the DDJ-1000SRT on Serato's Instagram page. I thought it would be the perfect controller for DJs like me, using Serato HID mode in clubs. I even thought about trading in my Denon MCX8000 in order to buy this unit instead. But when I saw the price, I actually laughed! 1500€ for a DJ controller? Is this a joke Pioneer? (Especially when the Recoesbox version of the DDJ-1000 is only around 1000€). And in order to use all of Serato's features, you'd still need to add something like a DDJ-SP1 to it which is just weird (I ain't buying a 1500€ controller just to add another controller to it cause it's missing features). Finally, this video convinced me that this controller isn't for me, I'm gonna stick with my MCX8000! P.S. I think it would have also been worth mentioning in the video, that the DDJ-1000(SRT) doesn't have Touchstrips/Needle Search. I don't get that cause the CDJ-2000s do have these! The DDJ-SP1 doesn't have those either, so you will have to learn to live without them (Ik there is beatjump but it's different from Needle Search)
Missing Touchstrip and the fact that this thing is totally overpriced are the main reasons why this ain't for me as well. Btw: I just realised that the DDJ-1000SRT also doesn't have controls for the start and stop time which is annoying. CDJs and most other pro all-in-one controllers do have knobs for the start and stop time so why wouldn't they include these in a 1500€ controller that is meant to mirror their club setup. Thid makes it almost imposible to do slip vinyl break effects (you would need to cahnge the Stop time in the setting of the software which sucks during a set). The SP1 also doesn't have these functions so adding it won't help you there 😕🙁
Beatjump and looping look pants on this when compared to NI Traktor software and hardware. I think Pioneer need to seriously develop this instead of bringing out a new controller every few months that is 'slightly' different from the previous model.
Thanks for pointing these things out. First of all I love the idea of those jog wheels and on board beat fx, however the distinct lack of serato controls is what I'm weighing up. I guess the product is targeted at a sort of hybrid market of non hardcore Serato users / looking for club feel / Rekordbox deniers ? The glaringly obvious things missing to me are hardware - Serato FX controls, Flip controls (although I have found they are sort of there), needle search, cross fader curve, cross fader feel adjust, panel view, and the pads don't seem to be velocity (like SZ2). I also saw another review and when they brought up the Serato cross fader curve software control - I didn't see the reverse option available? So not sure about that? You mentioned Key reset - The SX3 and the SZ2 have it too. Oh and regarding the beat jump visibilty - there is a setting in Serato - "Show Beat Jump Controls" which I think should give you visibilty. I guess my wishlist would've been an SZ2 with those jogs and beat fx... not asking for much hahaha
"Rekordbox deniers" - that made me smile! Honestly? I think it's targeted at all the DJs who said "make this for Serato" - let's be honest there were lots of them!
I like it because it doesnt feature stems . Which over hyped .Stems put me off the heavyweights Rane 4 & Rev7 .Stems sapps the CPU in ya laptop hardware .
1. Does this unit feel "cheap" (faders, buttons, wheels etc) like another user, below, said?? 2. Does it have a vinyl brake speed knob? If not, can this be midi adjusted to another knob? 3. Are all knobs, sliders, buttons etc midi-mappable? 4. Do you think it would be possible to change the look of the jog displays in the future, via a firmware update? (They don't look as beautiful as the ddj-1000's do) And with a future update to add more info on the displays? Or is that a hardware-impossibility? 5. Having to find the shift button to press it, as you say, in order to half/double the loop size sound plain stupid. Do you think that a software/firmware update could fix this by eliminating the need to press the shift button?? 6. Will SDJ selecting Quantize on SDJ apply to the looping buttons of this unit so that perfect beatgrid-loops are made (just like with any other DDJ-SX controller)? 7. It would be great if you could enlist all the main differences between this unit and its predecessors (the DDJ-SX3 and the DDJ-SZ2 so that all potential buyers could clearly see if the "upgrade" to this controller is necessary! :) :)
1. It feels like all Pioneer high-end gear. 2. No, but you can adjust this in Serato's settings. 3. Not tested, but assume so (except the jogwheel). 4. Maybe, we have no word on this. 5. Maybe, we have no word on this. 6. Yes 7. We'll consider it, thanks!
@@digitaldjtips Thank you Sir for the quick reply. SX3 fader is not replaceable that is why I backed out buying, I'm planning to get 1000SRT for which I do have two 1200s to connect! Again thank you.. stay safe and healthy.
Probably a stupid question. But is there anything pioneer controller good compatible with Traktor? or do you need to become a custom mapping expert for that?
dont you have any issues with traktor? i use 4track with Traktor but i have some issues with the software :( thinking of getting a new controller and moving to serato
@@OhMySquall No I don't have any issues. The software is popular among Techno DJ's. Guys like Richie Hawtin uses it who always plays 4 decks, same goes for Chris Liebing, Carl Cox, and countless other DJ's that play in night clubs and festivals around the world every night. So it has a good reputation. It was also the first DJ software, so they have the more experience and history then any other DJ software. I don't know what issues you have. But I never heard or experience complaints. I think that all DJ software is fine. It's just a matter of personal preference. I actually also enjoy Image Line's DJ software because it can do some crazy things. Especially when you are also a Producer like me. That being said. I actually can not name one famous DJ that uses Serato or Deckadance on stage. But I can name a endless list of famous Traktor users. Maybe it's a Techno yhing. Richie Hawtin took part in developing the software, So it was designed by a Techno DJ. Maybe Serato is more popular in other genres that I am not aware of. What I like about Traktor is that it works with stems technology. What opens a lot of possibility's. In general it feels to me like Traktor gives me more creative control. I'm thinking of buying either a pioneer mixer or a Native Instruments mixer. But I really don't want to switch software. I actually use a controller right now that was designed for Serato.(Novation Twitch) And yet I chosen to use Traktor software instead by mapping my own keys. What kind of shows how much I don't want to use Serato and want to use Traktor instead. (again it's just a personal preference) Maybe there is a fix for the Issues that you encounter. You can always try DJ software. That's what I did before I made my choice. I would recommend doing that before before buying a controller and switch software because of it. I still believe that you buy the controller for the software you use. And not use specific software because of the controller. (despite the fact that Serato invest a enormous amount of money and effort for achieving exactly that. What by definition makes me kind of negative towards the company. If a company forces me to use their shit. I just don't want to use their shit. And yet I use WIndows but that's another story haha)
@@digitaldjtips That's a real shame. I will try rekordbox software. The problem I have with N.I controllers. despite the fact that they are all fine and do the job. Is that they just look and feel cheap and plastic. But the S8 has metal plating right? so does that one looks and feels more pro then the others? I am going to sell my Technics 1200 SL's and Dateq Mixer for a new controller. But if I am going to trade all that gear for a controller I want it to be something that looks and feels professional and not like a plastic toy. Any other controllers you might recommend that provide that same High quality experience as a pioneer controller and yet is very suitable for Traktor? And is it wise to buy a Pioneer controller and just map the buttons your self? or would you recommend a controller that is designed for the software you use? Right now I have a novation Twitch mapped to Traktor. It all works. But it just doesn't really feel intuitive. This might be because the Twitch is a small controller. But it also might be something that all controllers suffer from once you start mapping. What are your thoughts about that?
Controllers that are mapped to specific software by default tend to have tighter integrations with those software :) The S8 looks serious and is pro, but it doesn't have any jogs so if you want platters you'll need either turntables (DVS) or media players.
Hey Phil, can you stack the hardware fx like you can with the serato fx? For example, I use echo and reverb on at the same time when I'm scratching live to not have the sample sounding so dry
Sorry we haven't tried that, the most common way for that setup would be using an external PA mixer and connecting the controller to one channel and the Acoustic Guitar to another
@ Digital DJ Tips.: "3. Looping is Clunky" - Phil did you check if the the controller is re-mapable ? As of now, every Serato controller should be. I would expect you to actually know the software of the controller you review, as of know, you somewhat dont... (ref also missing the beatjump setting in serato setup...).
Yes it is remappable, but it is very difficult to map the modifier key (ie "shift") necessary to accomplish this, as there are no instructions available from Serato as to how to do it. We do know the software - inside out - I even made a course on it! But I didn't make my point clearly enough re wanting to see beatjump on the jog screens (with the other loop info), and forgetting it's an option on the main screen. We ain't all perfect, my friend...
Thanks for this useful video. So it seems that this controller was created to work very well with Rekordbox, but then Pioneer tries to force this design to make it work with Serato which is obviously different software. Clearly the end result is a mediocre albeit expensive controller.
I love this controller but the only and biggest disappointment is the lack to fully kill all three EQs. I cant believe Pioneer overlooked that on the SRT version.
1. Ok, terrible that they've taken away the Stop Speed knob that is super-handy in the SZ2, but let's hope that you can midi-map the function to another knob (just like I have done on my SX3)... 2. I REALLY think that the SILVER Color Filter knobs on the SZ2 look waay better than the cheap-looking black ones do on the 1000SRT. :( :( 3. Where have the VERY useful Flip buttons gone?? (they exist on the SZ2, the SX2 and SX3 but I can't see them on the 1000SRT..) 4. Why are the EQ knobs not full-kill on the 1000SRT, just like they are on the 1000 and on ALL the other DDJ models???
Yes, be worried who you bought it from will show up asking for the rest of the money lol In all seriousness that would be a crazy deal so I'd personally think it's highly likely to be stolen or broken.
Hi Phil, I have the new 1000SRT controller and a question or problem: Is it normal that the upfaders wobble so much or have great tolerances on the buttons? It feels bad and cheap. Far away from 900nexus or my DDJ-SX!?! Thanx....
?? Really? It feels cheap?? NOT a good thing AT ALL if this is so... I would be expecting this controller to feel AT LEAST as "expensive" as the nexus 2 units... :( :(
Oliver Bodzin what do you mean? Are you saying that it doesn’t feel like the “flagship model“ according to your personal taste, or in direct comparison to the flagship Pioneer DJM mixer? In the first case it is your opinion, in the second case you have actually compared the two and have come to this conclusion. Please explain which is the case.
nounix 3 you know, i worked on so many Pioneer Mixers (DJM 500, 600, 800, 900NXS2, SX, SZ, then i know how the quality had to be like. These bottons or the Fader feel different and have so big tolerances, that it is absolutely unacceptable.
@@patrickbutlerentertainment5020 Thanks. If I should by rekordbox software, it will just connect to the SZ as serato would. Or I would need some drivers or plug ins for it to work?
If your coming from turntables are CDJs and you want a controller. I think this is it. If your coming from controllers it’s prolly not the gear you want.
Not forgetting they put a rubbish DAC in it as well. Its always the same with Pioneer they bring out something that everyone else had out 3yrs ago and they expect people to be excited. Nope....
thats pioneer alright. Serato and rekordbox do the same, they have bells and whistles when their newest updates have "game changing" features, that virtual dj had 10 years ago and this is coming from a 5 year serato user
Serato needs to stop B.S.ing and just build their own hardware for seamless integration. Literally everyone just buying for jog wheels and club standard mixer section.
It has jog adjust on srt1000 whn the cdj first came out u didnt hve any of these features u had to use keyboard shortcuts so thts the whole concept of it club style before all the fancy buttons
pioneer does it again, rehash an old controller a year and a half later with no additions. At this pricepoint youd be an idiot to not go for the better prime 4 instead
@@skiboot1 honestly bro, if ypu can afdord a 1k plus controller as a starter dj controller go for it. if youre looking to get into djing, i would go for a cheaper sx,sx2 used even and go from there, i would also advice to focus on the important part, organizing your music, reliable quality speakers and a reliable computer to use for djing only, a $300 to 1k controller if you can and you should be set
@@skiboot1 im no expert, far from it, but it all depends on what your goal is. If your goal is to become a club/festival DJ, then the monitor speakers you mentioned are great for practice at home all the time. If you want to get mobile gigs where you will bring your own equipment, i would skip the monitors and instead buy speakers, one speaker will cost ablut the same as the krk monitors, and the advantage is that not only are you still able to use a pa speaker as a monitor at home, but you can use it to provide sound at your shows at the gigs where you might need to bring a pa system. The krk monitors are only good for practicing your sets, and no more, you cant use them at gigs. As far as laptops, im in the same boat. I am a windows user always been, always will be. I hate everything about macs, not for me. I recommend you get a gaming laptop, those are meant to be workhorses, and are built to cope with running multiple tasks very efficiently. My asus is about 5 years old, its got a 2gb nvidia graphics card,8gb ram (which i havent expanded yet) and i swapped out the harddrive with a ssd and if does wonders, from off to on and completely functional in about 4 seconds. Dont buy individual music, subscribe to a pool djcity, bpmsupreme, promoonly mymp3pool etc. Dont make the mistake of downloading all in a single folder, create multiple folders organized in genres for example Hip Hop, Rnb,Disco, Country, Line Dances, etc and organize your music as you download it so everything is easier ro find and access, i made the mistake when starting of downloading everything all genres in a single folder, spent weeks separating the thousands of songs into their proper genre folders
You have forgotten a really important point. DON'T BUY EITHER DDJ-1000 OR 1000SRT, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY ANALOG VINYL! Both have built-in preamps, that are just suited for digital signals (timecode for DVS) and result in absolutely horrible sound quality with normal analog vinyl. This issue is confirmed by Pio officials in their forum. Phono preamps that are not able to deliver at least normal quality with analog vinyl in a 1200 controller. Just disgusting.
Well you can erase one of the performance pads, the one you use the less, like "slicer" and instead put all the effects of serato, and you can map the dry/wet knobs on the color effects knobs, and the principal effect knob on the mixer and you can choose between using Serato effects or pioneer effects, or you can use them both at the same time, you just have to turn on the ones you want, pioneer's on the mixer, and serato on the performance pads
This seemed like the perfect upgrade for me till I watched this vid... But No waveform display on jogwheels ???😱 🤭 😒 Wtf Pioneer??? 🤨 Just another blatant cheapshot at Serato IMO 🙄 Do you think that it will be addressed in a future update perhaps ? Seems like everything else u mentioned can be easily solved with my ddj-sp1 as u said. Super useful video here , good stuff 👍🏽
This set up is meant to give an idea of what the workflow is like using Pioneer CDJ2000NXSS and a DJM 900NXS (with HID and Serato DJ Pro). Most use the hardware FX on that set up and guys that require extra controls bring their DDJ-SP1 add on controller. It brings a bit more to the table with the performance pads than using standard CDJs with Serato besides the overview waveform. It would have been nice but its not a biggie.
Great review thanks! Im using DDJ-SX2 for 3 years now and I can see it does everything what this controller can do but the jog wheels and the mixer sure feels better and the effects on the hardware is much better than Serato effects but if I upgrade I would go for the 1000 rekordbox otherwise I just keep my SX2 for another year and see what happens
@@WhySoBroke Nobody said it's cheap to be a DJ. But compared to what I have had to pay for DJ gear, music, converting from Vinyl to CD to digital over the years... $200 is what 15 pieces of 60 min Audio CD-R every other week for a year when I transferred my most important vinyl to CD in the mid 90's. ...and that was alongside buying new music :) . The only available Audio CD-burner at the time was $1500 and the time I spend... I'd take any of today's choice of gear no matter cost, no complaints, over that. Fortunately it has paid off for me over the years, but I didn't know it would back then.
What can we build with leftover parts? Oh a new controller totally innovative! Instead of just updating the existing controllers firmware to talk to Serato
Cant really blame Pioneer for that. Serato is a competitor of their software. so naturally their version of the controllers will always be better and more intuitive ;) Just gotta switch to rekordbox instead then :)
Regarding beat jump… you don’t seem have beat jump viewable/enabled in your Serato DJ preferences. I was actually impressed that it still allowed you to access the feature with it visibly disabled/turned off.
@@digitaldjtips now I’m contemplating to get it now or wait til NAMM 2023 to see if I see something else or a newer version since it may be up for an upgrade. But the ddj-1000srt is still a beautiful controller and sooooo nicely built.
