Since this video, I was able to take the DDJ 800 to 3 events in Canada. I hooked it up to a mixer as well as on an actual PA system. The sound quality was amazing! For its size, it did the job and those who see it was impressed by it. If you are a DJ who wants a powerful yet portable controller as backup or primary for your events, the DDJ 800 is the one you should get. Begining DJs should upgrade to the 800 instead of the FLX6 for mobile gigs. After 3 years, I still enjoy playing it.
Since this video, I upgraded my DDJ 400 to the DDJ 800. I still enjoy playing this controller. Even though I have not taken it out in gigs (because of Covid), I have used it on my online shows and streaming events. I haven't received anything negative and my DJ partner loves playing on it. I am looking forward to tale it on the road when things open up. Even though I will play on Pioneer club-standard CDJs and mixer, I will take as a backup. I recommend this controller over the FLX6
Would you recommend this as an upgrade to the numark mixtrack platinum fx? I'm just starting out but feel like I'm going to out grow the numark quickly.
@@mysterydpt4663 I ended up getting a Rane One a couple of weeks ago. Almost every controller I was interested in was on backorder. I'm loving the Rane One though.
I'm a little late coming to this controller (and trying to decide if they will update it early next year). But I have to say that this is probably one of the best reviews on it I've seen yet. Thank you for being so comprehensive in this review!
Wow this was SO helpful!! As an amateur DJ looking for my first controller, the video, explanations, full walk-through with examples for each was so so helpful. Thank you 🙏🏽
So thorough and organized. Big ups to you for all the work you put into these videos to help our dj game. I’m definitely gunna take your online classes!!
Really helpful overview of all the features in the DDJ800. I just got mine today and this was a great guide to get me started. I love my DDJ 800! I think this is the most affordable way to have an almost identical layout to a standard club setup at home for practice and working in Rekordbox. I also have two turntables hooked up to it, and I love that the faders and EQs work for the line/phono inputs as a standalone unit. I often just want to listen to records and it's nice to not have to connect my laptop.
Great video!!! I was wondering ....when I open Sample mode (on either player) and add a sample, will i have access to use the platter to scratch that same sample when queued (or presses) ? Or is the sample only manipulated by turning the volume on it up and down?
You guys mentioned the fader isn't as good for scratching as the one on the DDJ-1000. But I've seen people scratch on it and it seems pretty damn good. Much better than the DDJ-SX I have... any additional thoughts for scratching? Thanks guys!
Hi there. I’ve not long started and have been using a WeGo4 to practise but wanted to upgrade to something with more features. I’ve been looking at the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-SR2. What you recommend? Bearing in mind I have not used serato or rekordbox yet.
@@DJ-Dorian It's awesome. I upgraded from the hercules inpulse 300 after learning the basics of being a DJ. I just uploaded a mix to my channel with the DDJ-800, check it out!
Thanks for this in depth review of the DDJ 800 because I am a bit new to these types of equipment and I haven't decided either to purchase DDJ 400 or 800.
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
Hi. I have 1 question, I have ddj 400 right now. As I take it for gigs I have to attach a external mixer, as alone it dont give that good output.. So if I buy ddj 800 do I have to attach external mixer????
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you I know both equipments are different and what is the best for my experience thank you . and great video
Can anyone help? Recently purchased the 800, and feeling my way around, was playing around with cue points - how do I reset the analysed cue points back to default that rekordbox added when it analysed a song? Cheers in advance
Great review, thanks! I am a beginner, so purchased the DDJ-400 and feel I've now outgrown it. I'd like to see a comparison between the 800 and the 1000. I don't see any reason to get the 800 when the 1000 is only a few hundred more, but that comparison would help me decide. Thanks again!
Would you recommend the ddj 800 for a beginner or is it to much to handle for the first dj controller. Been looking at the ddj flx6GT for beginner but the dj800 is about $200 more... thanks
Can I plug in a cdj or a keyboard/ turntables, etc in channel 1 for example and then playing music on deck 1 and the music from the cdj is still coming thru?
Hey man great video. I recently just got my ddj 800 but no animations appear on my jog wheel and i cant seem to see how to fix that in the settings. If anyone knows i would appreciate it
And to all the people saying it’s over priced.... I got this this threw a well know music company for $699 0% interest if you want to finance. For the same price as the SR2 which was what I was going to get, I got this for the same price and I love it. It has way more ability than people think. And the displays are so handy. I would definitely recommend this controller and and like I said. I got it for 200 dollars less easily
Has anyone figured a way to fully get DVS working fully? This would make or break getting a DDJ800 for me as I already have turntables - be nice to incorporate them in a controller set up!
when should i upgrade from ddj flx4 to ddj 800? i feel like ive learnt everything there is on the flx4 but i can defenetly still improve my dj mechanincs. but when should i upgrade to a ddj 800? is there a standard? like 1 or 2 or 3 years with flx4 before upgrading?
Nice video! It's very much a software dependent controller with no hardware effects and all that. So whereas it'll probably never work with Serato, it almost looks designed with Virtual DJ in mind too (near perfect feature set match), so I'm sure it'll become natively supported with a few other software brands. In other words: You won't necessarily be stuck with Rekordbox if you buy this. You probably just won't be able to use Serato But yes - it should have been $699 like the DDJ-RR, which was the previous semi-pro 2 channel Rekordbox controller
I tested both units. Must say i like jog Wheel style of this ddj 800. Wish it had a bigger jogwheel though. With the mechanical jogs there are moving parts which will get loosy after a while. And is noisy while scratching. Wish Pioneer whould get rid of those mechanical jogs
I’ve been using a DDJ WeGO 4 as a beginner for quite a while now and I feel that I’m ready to make the next step up. Would you recommend the DDJ 400 first or jump straight on to the DDJ 800?
crossfader provides the most thorough reviews on Dj equipment. salute! on another note for Pioneer: Cmon.. still using laptops? DEnon prime 4 has now stand alones are we are still making laptop dependent mixers? lets step it up Pioneer. im sure you've got some answer to DEnon aside from the DDJ RX2
@crossfader : I don’t understand the problem you had on the DVS part. The DVS worked perfectly for me ( I test with Rekordbox DJ record or Phase ). And did you see that you can apply some PAD FX on a regular turntable/cd input ?
Like we said we may be just doing something wrong but it didn’t respond how we expected. Set it up exactly the same as normal with DVS. We will have to continue testing. Did you have it on relative mode?
Hey Crossfader, love the video bro! Question: Is the USB port also an input or just to connect to the computer? I want to setup an iRig. So, from what I understand if the question is a no, I assume the signal flow would be: Computer to Focusrite, Focusrite outputs to DDJ 800, DDJ 800 outputs to iRig, iRig outputs to the amp, then amp to speakers. Yes, no? Appreciate the help 🤙
The USB is just a computer connection port and needs to be directly connected. You'd need your path to be Computer to 800, 800 to iRig, iRig to Amp/Speakers. Alternatively you could connect the iRig to the RCA outputs of the 800 and the Amp/Speakers to the XLR's! Hope this helps!
Great review! I was considering upgrading to this controller when I heard it was announced but then found out some of the limitations you mentioned with it and that would mean another upgrade down the road. So, I'm leaning more towards just going for the DDJ-1000 as it will have the 4-channels and won't have the limitations that are present in the DDJ-800
