@@PeteSherriff They said the same thing when NI took out the Jog wheels on the Traktor s8. “Nobody uses Jog wheels”. “Look forward not back”. Somethings just work and are a staple of design. These controllers need performance pads. Period.
I’m not sure what I think of this, I love the idea of trying to keep a minimalistic look but I think having physical switches is better than everything inside the Programm. Imagine your mixing at a festival and your applying an effect but chose the wrong deck in that setting by accident, but you already switched screens for your mix and get lost in the Programm. I think this is a great idea but should be made more simple by just keeping the buttons for assigning things. This is only my opinion you may agree or not.
Fortunately, this was not designed for festival DJ performances. It was designed for a more all around DJ; a wedding DJ perhaps? This also could be a really great unit for creating sets to later be performed on CDJ setup. It certainly does have it’s possibilities but it’s still not my cup of tea.
@@any3859 you can use all four channels with the xz if u hook up to rekordbox tho. My problem with the new thing is you can’t add external equipment and be able to use pro dj link.
@@akira2k513 I don’t know any dj’s that are going to do technical 4 deck mixing at weddings. I’d say this is more for club dj’s but then you’d expect the club to have equipment already and probably wouldn’t have something like this in the dj booth. This is my gripe with all these new products, there’s so many different options. If the price tag wasn’t so hefty I’d invest but they all become succeeded, and inevitably obsolete, quite quickly. It’s not like a pair of technics that still get used to this day. If a dj rider stipulates a pair of technics you can use any model from the mk2 onwards. They hold their value too. I really want to invest in something like this but I know give it 2-3 years there’ll be an Opus nexus or something along those lines and this will be dated and you’d lose a fair chunk selling it to upgrade. I don’t know anyone who sold a pair of technics to upgrade to a newer model. It’s a conundrum
@@eupel1, trust me, no club or festival DJ would ever want to use the OQ in a performance; they might entertain one at home for fun but to practice on they will want what has long since come to be known as the club standard setup. On an all in one unit, this is best represented by the XDJ-XZ; even Pioneer makes it a point to say that the OQ is not a replacement to the XZ. I stand by what I said originally; this could very well be Pioneer experimenting to see what features mainstream DJs would like to add to the “club standard” workflow. Oh yes, you’re right most DJs will not use 4 decks but many would like to have the option “just in case”. It’s a classic case of FOMO when you don’t have it even if you will never use it. It should be noted that pro DJs who want to use 4 decks will always prefer 4 physical decks rather than layered decks as this complicates the work flow drastically. Can you imagine James Hype playing on layered decks? He would have a sh*t fit.
For a second I thought I made a mistake by recently buying the Live 4, but at this price point and with no streaming integration as of now, I'm convinced Live 4 was a good choice. Although it's an impressive unit, I like this direction from Pioneer.
Defenitely a departure from their standard stuff they have been pumping out those last 10 years, I like it too, keeps things fresh and more modern looking. The pricetag isn't so fresh on the other hand. Denon was right to position itself in the budget bracket with the SClive series.
The SC Live 4 has so much value for the price - I love mine. The one thing I think it's missing is the ability to set effects to low/mid/high like the XZ. The lows can get real muddy.
@@nickyv1225 you have an option to select the Frequency as a one of the parameters in some effects like Echo or Reverb, so it only affects the frequency you want. You have to press down the Parameter button and it will toggle between them.
Is anyone else bothered about the fact the bottom edge of the decks won’t align with additional CDJ’s or turntables. My OCD will go nuts it not being nice and straight 😂
I'm extremely bothered, to the point where it may tip my decision to not purchase it. (in combination with the price, lack of other features, and general deviation from the rest of their club ecosystem)
I like everything about this unit however pioneer DJ is notorious for their incredibly timeless design and this is definitely not timeless however aside from that I really like this unit
@@Silentil that's not what I'm saying the ddj 800 and 1000 and the cdjs are timeless and this just doesn't cut it for me I think this is pioneer fighting back against the bars and clubs that bought the rx series and now there not buying cds so now I don't think any bar or club will this
I don’t get why Pioneer DJ dosen‘t give us paying customers what we want.. DJ‘s only want XZ2 and DDJ 1000 mk2. Instead we got this.. we want the Standard Club Layout, not the Touchscreen Focus thing. ALL I WANT IS XZ2 😭
Isn’t that kinda obvious why an XZ2 probably isn’t gonna happen any time soon? With the new 3000s and the A9, a stand-alone unit that offers (almost) identical features but for a lower price tag would just cannibalize Pioneers own top-of-the-line products.
Facts, but I bet they don't want to release new versions of the stuff we actually want because they know they can't meet production expectations. Much easier to manufacture a product for a small demographic than for the majority. I find it hilarious that they can't keep old products in stock but will still release something new.
Really on this one I do not understand the positioning of Pioneer. 3300€ for a standalone which has the advantage of offering 2 more channels, but removes the multifunction pads which are so popular and useful. To return to separate and independent buttons less quick to use. I find it hard to believe that adding 2 channel increases the price of 1000€. Why not use the rx3 concept by expanding it just a bit and adding 2 channels? You reduce research & dev costs and use the assets that everyone already loves without blowing the budget. Without me on this one, apart from the screen, this standalone looks like a step back in its proposal.
For everyone hating this thing, you have to try it first,i got it after 2 days it was launched and i can say it is really nice,i’m not an expert or anything but it feels good, nice screen, nice touch, very responsive, bluetooth, wireless. I love it. ❤
For weddings on a yacht. If you put this in a restaurant with some impromptu sound system, booked DJs are SOL since it can't use old databases and uses a new one.
Exactly my thought😉👍🏽 For luxury apartments or fashion shows where style over substance matters more… Also for Dj’s that want to look pro but lack any real knowledge of what pro dj controllers can do if you know how to use the functions “Functions made easy in a nice box”
@@therealckonmixcloud1733 Seriously? How bizarre. Is this the wedding, prom, and 'events' circuit or are you actually talking about venues that don't just book people with controllers?
I don't know. It just looks unfinished. And why have they removed the dottes and lines, I've found them very useful... Same for the interaction, why is everything controlled through the touchscreen, when I've got sweaty hands and maybe had 1-3 beers I want knobs not a little flimsy touch screen... And to be honest, the layout isnt that good ether, I thought the Xz should mimic a Cdj Set up. Now what's this a Prime 4 set-up🤷🏼♂️ I think the Rx3 is now a much much better deal... From the layout to the design everybody can use it. For this on the other hand you'll need an introduction😂 Ps: does somebody know what's going on with pioneers name structure. Djm900nxs2 --> Djm a9 / Cdj2000nxs2 --> cdj3000/ xdj Xz --> some complicated Name 😂
Absolutely ridiculous pricing. And yet it lacks the essentials like a SD slot, proper jog displays, proper performance pads, slip mode, master EQ, still no analysis or proper streaming at launch, this is embarrassing. Paris Hilton DJs, rejoice. You gonna love the fancy gold, haha. Thanks but I stick with my workhorse Prime 4.
Duh all your essentials are not that essential. Who’s use SD card nowadays? If you using the CDJ you know that there isn’t performance pad and now they just mimics it’s like the CDJ 3000, you don’t need the jog display when you got the WHOLE NEW SCREEN for that. Sure slip mode missing is weird, master eq is missing and they still not include track analysis onboard which sure suck but just wanted to say that most of the “essential” you mentioned is not even that important
@@d_m1nhh I am using SD card, if you want to know... It is just inserted in a gear and I am having there full music collection there... See, they put so much efforts to create neat clean design and then they force you to crash it by putting some stick or connect cable with your SDD to it... ?!?!
This thing is beautiful. I feel like pioneer has finally realized they have some competition and they knocked this out of the park. I love all the customization. At the end of the day, they seem to just know what DJs want
@@adamwright4135 Yeah, I don't like the red either. Let us change it to blue. Or yellow. Green. Purple. It's 2023 for god's sake. If I'm paying > € 3000 for a device like this, I want to adjust the colours! And get paint those sides just black. Sigh.
Depends, I want vinyl and a solid A&H analogue mixer. That's because my style doesn't ask those gimmicks. My audience likes my style. Unfortunately not everything is released on vinyl, so if I reaaaallly want to play a track, I gotta play it digitally. But still, no gimmicks.
Pioneer: sorry but due to the chip shortage we're having trouble keeping our current product line in stock. Also Pioneer: we're pleased to announce a crazy expensive standalone unit that has even more tech that will make production and distribution a nightmare but pre-order now and you'll have this beautiful bit of kit in less than a year after release 😂.
Keep your XDJ-XZ. I have Numark NV, NV2, DDJ 1000 and DDJSZ 👉NV or NV2... I have a bunch of faders and buttons to prioritize my own effects and update whenever I want with new effects and do more than the new gear. You can't rely on drop box or any cloud stuff. No for performing or events. You need your laptop or your drive...
Great piece of kit. What I miss is a good representation of the 'USB background color', which I loved on the older players. Now It's very hard to see which USB you are browsing or playing from.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - Denon is finally the leader, it's obvious because with this mixer, it's clear Pioneer like what Denon did and are now forced to follow and copy...Can only be good for all us DJ's...
Can the crossfader be turned off completely in software? Because I did not see it when the video went through the mixer utilities and there is no physical switches for it.
There should be a MASSIVE ARTWORK mode so you can dig thru "record sleves" on the massive screen. Would be great. And it should create Very large text for art it hasnt got.
i think this looks absolutely terrible, reminds me of the pioneer ergo - like a toy. completely ruins any chance of me considering this for any professional club application. i’m a fan of all the convenience and functionality brought to the touchscreen, but i would also really miss having tactile controls over all those parameters like the beat fx. nothing can replace physical controls on a dj unit where muscle memory is everything - a huge part of pioneer’s industry dominance comes from familiarity as all their products have the same layout, this butchers that and looks like a cringe piece of art deco furniture :(
I know the build quality is going to be better and the jog wheels Pioneer uses are lightyears ahead of everyone else, however, I would love to see a comparison video of the Denon Prime 4+ and this unit here. You'd be comparing the only two units on the market that allow four tracks on a standalone all in one, but two different price points.
This just may become my next in home Studio piece. Would never take it out for events lol. Looks pretty sleek with loads of functions. Totally different approach and awesome result!!
All that money and no magvell fader? And I don't like their new orange light theme on the newer controller's . And they have removed the pitch speed markers/ lines , so manual beatmaching will be harder to do if you ride the pitch to match the beats.😩
Price = £2900. A little too much but good review. At this price why not buy; 1. *RANE 70* Battle DJ & Scratch Mixer .Price = £1499 2. *RANE 12 Mk2 Turntable* £739 each, x2 = £1478 Total price = £2977. (Just £77 more) I do miss the days when there was a cap on the price DJs had to pay for professional club equipment (x2 Technics 1210s (£350 each) and a Technics DMC 2 channel scratch mixer) and the rest was all down to your turntable skills and vinyl collection. This equipment had great resale value too. If you decided to quit or take a break there was never a shortage of people happy to buy your equipment for near to what you paid for it. Not sure how easy it would be for you to get anywhere near £2900 for the Opus-quad if you decided to quit after 3 -5 years. Who else can afford it and would trust spending that much money on something 2nd hand from a stranger? ....but anyway..... Just my thoughts. I welcome any comments and alternate perspectives.
Why???? I first I thought this was an xz upgrade.. After 25sec of your vid jamie👏👏👏BTW I realised it's not... Fuming, drip feed again by the Pioneer fat cats..
somehow my DDJ400 has 16x the functionality through the performance pads, so no I will not be shelling out 3 grand for this, thanks for making the video.
I’m visually impaired and have been looking for a 4 channel mixer. This is the perfect one for me. The screen is huge and easy to see, plus it means I don’t need to struggle finding the specific effect knob, I can just have the ones I need in the bank. The only annoying thing is the lack of third party support but if djay manages to work on this then u don’t need to worry about that.
I really dig the look, there is nothing out there like this in terms of looks 🔥so lets stop the cap, but it still doesnt compete with the prime 4, its not even close and at 1000$ more expensive i just see it as a luxury
When the XDJ-XZ came out it was so impressive and I thought Pioneer was only going to make them better from there. Was that the peak for a 4 Channel Standalone Unit? We'll have to see....
Yes that XDJ-XZ has four channels, but the system could only play on two. The other two could be used when hooking up additional players like a vinyl or a CDJ. So that was kind of a bummer because it was supposed to be their top tier standalone mixer. I think this Opus Quad is some nice innovation from Pioneer and I like that they look for a new design. This reminds me of stealth fighter jets. The FLX6-GT also has that nice stealth grey color with orange/blue LEDs and now this Opus Quad too. I like that. EDIT: I believe all four channels could be used using a laptop with Rekordbox (but then it is not stand-alone anymore), but I'm not sure as I do not have this product and did not do any additional research
I think this is a reply to the denon sc live 4 but if that’s the reply, a controller missing loads of features and priced at 3000€ then there’s something going on inside pioneer’s head
Large screen, 4channel it's definitely a response to the Denon P4 and no doubt will be a great bit of kit. I think the jogs are oversized for just mixing and makes the unit a bit big.. I have a P4 and it's already a large footprint. Looking forward to getting a play on this to see Pioneers take on a standalone 4 channel package and what they offer for that extra cost. Initially not a fan of the screens either side, just more distractions. I choose the Prime 4 as I wanted away from the laptop and the one screen has everything needed. Can't wait ot get a play on it 🤟
The one thing I am recently disliking about pioneer dj is the fact they remove the little markers on the knobs. Tiny little thing but causes a bit of a problem
This seems to be their most premium option for DJ Controllers. I really like some of the new features and additions but I wish it had a similar club layout. Hopefully they propagate some of these to other models like a new DDJ-1000 or XDJ-XZ.
Denon DJ Prime 4 remains King of the Standalone Mixers. Three main reasons: 1. Lack of Performance Pads 2. Hot Cues are forward of the platters meaning that a palm touch could ruin your mix. 3. Lack of Streaming Services. At nearly twice the price of a Denon DJ Prime 4, there is no excuse for these missing features.
Prime 4+ knocks them all out of the park or water, whatever you prefer But those with money and no care buys whatever they want. I prefer to get performance dirt cheap!
That design is atrocious. 😅 I think I’ll stick with my XZ, it may not have four channels internally but it at least looks like the DJM and CDJ units it’s based on.
I still love my 8 pads (specially when I want to drop my own custom effects) and a bigger jog wheels. If these were in there it would’ve been insane. But I like it though
Good overview - looks awesome. Are the two smaller screens customisable in any way, in terms of the info. they show or how large the waveforms are etc?
This looks weird. It's a shame they didn't use more of a CDJ-3000 / DJM 950 styling. The rotary loop knob is the best thing they stole from Denon! The rotary loop knob is pretty much the only thing I miss from my Prime 4 when I play on Pioneer players.
Sorry, DJ-ing has become a Computer-Nerd, and lost the "musicality" Too Much of everything, and "effect-seekings" not to mention all the stupid samplings and snaredrums, on and on and on... Todays Disco Dance floor is boooring....
Following this channel for almost 3 years now. Impressed to see how your hair has changed and also finally pioneer operating system progressed..makes a big difference to old xdj-xz software.., although the layout feels like more for home use -the loop buttons dont fit to cdj layout ... i dont care about the effects... my verdict: your hair looks superb mate 👍
I think that this piece of gear is just like the BMW M3 Competition: At first, I despised the design, but after seeing those reviews, all the features it packs, and the fact that each deck slowly morphs into a CDJ-3000 with the hot cues and the display, I started to like this. In fact, I would buy this instead of the XZ, and equally appreciate this and the clearly-upcoming XZ MK2. It is essentially a full 10000 euros 4 CDJ + DJM setup in a package that's like 3 times less the cost. Really considering buying one of these in the near future. With this and the FLX4, Pioneer really smashed the competition. Kudos to you Crossfader, aswell, for the awesome reviews! Edit: The only thing missing is Slip, but, as you said, they could add it through a firmware update on the screen. Edit 2: And the Magvel fader, but oh well, that's that.
When i bought my M3 i did not have to take it back or return it to BMW the first week of purchase at least Opus quad is not meant for performance, it's meant for looks You want that you go with the XDJ ZX
I love the autoloop knob, it just makes so much more sense. Not a fan of the looks though. Hopefully we can get some of these features like the loop knob on other upcoming products.
Only took what 5 years to catch up? 😂 still toy crossfade with plastic that flies out and prob needs change. Looks good though. Happy for bigger jog finally
the ddj 1000 is better , we need bottons for everything and not touch screens all the new features are not useful , I can connect to my phone also with the ddj 1000 or just connect to wi fi throw MacBook Pro that is 10 times better then this touch screen , pioneer this is not the way
It looks like a toy. 3k? Seriously? One of the appeals of the XZ was it was mimicking the current Nexus 2 club setup but has decent performance pads. This looks like a unit for poseurs. If you want something like this, just get a Denon for less than half the price. Also, if you ARE a scratch DJ Jamie, you aren't buying this lol.
They haven;t tho, it;'s still lacking a boat load of "essential" features and they fucked around with the current standard workflow for loads of dj's again.
3.3€k, omg, i have the denon prime2 and i see that its better than this all in one system, i have wifi with 4 streaming apps, and much cheaper, maybe bc mine 2 channels but this OPUS-QUAD expensive more than denon prime 4 & it dosen’t do what denon prime 2 / 4 do, 1 usb input other one for laptop/ phone, in my denon prime2 2 usb inputs plus 1 usb for laptop, ssd card & hard drive.
It's got the look of an atari 2600 but looks good it different in the way of design love the knobs but I feel like it's more for Juke box dj s that doesn't have to hook up there laptop to a pair monitors and hit random on there play list and sit back all in all pioneer open up and added wifi and Bluetooth but are a little late to the party in my opinion in all in one should be should be ALL IN ONE...meaning no laptop needed software should be included in the unit..looks good great features but I think I'm going to pass
it looks interesting but i can`t see a Point why i should buy this instead buying a Denon Dj Prime4+! as long you can`t stand alone analyse the songs and can`t use thirdparty platforms. this is defitively no Gamechanger. all that features are on the markt since years and with about 3000$ it is much to pexpensive for what it offers!
Does it mix properly with master tempo switched on though? Do loops finally get quantised properly by the unit? Both these things are terrible on a lot of RX & XZ units. It's all well and good looking pretty and portable, but does it actually work properly. Thanks for the review here though.
Hi! This is probably answered in the video/and or comments but im going to a gig with the opus quad in not too long and need a very spesific yes/no answer. WILL my USB sticks exported with rekordbox as normal (not the newest version) work as normal on this opus?
Dear Pioneer, Thank you Denon for doing the research and showing the way by making the Prime 4 3 years ago. I just need to do a little more tweaks and add a few of our legacy. Then price is twice as the controller I emulated. I don’t need to use the “Club Standard” as an excuse anymore. Now let me see if our loyal Pioneerians get suckered into buying this. In the meantime, let me research on how to copy Serato’s and VDJ’s stems technology. Your truly, Pioneer
