Nice to see some fresh innovation in the controller space. Something like this would seriously make me consider a set of turntables again for the first time in about 12 years. I love the fact you get the benefit of using these as a controller, DVS or traditional vinyl deck.
All we need to complement this is a mixer with Rekordbox built in and a screen, so we don't have to use a laptop for the DVS / controller asoects. This has been my dream product for about 10 years!
Okay it came yesterday. Calibrating it, setting needle up breaking it in. Never used digital gonna have to get the programs. To sample my own instrumental work such as drums so I can scratch kt
As someone who can’t instantly tell what key a track is in, the endless possibilities of the step tempo is amazing as you could use it with master tempo to mix songs that wouldn’t usually be in key and actually have it dead on just by adjusting the bpm while leaving one track on master tempo so they lets align. Wish my XDJs had that
They have done a really good job of making the turntable look good and pack in the features. The reloop is a bit too colourful for my taste but this looks cool. Love that is has support for Serato and Recordbox as that sounds like it could be important for the future. Great video, thanks.
Wow this is what I’ve been dreaming about the last 6months! Very interesting and modern, I see now the stems for Rekordbox and Serato. It plays mp3/wav, DVS, and Vinyl. I like it and very innovative also.
I would have loved one of these if it wasn't designed and set up for battle mode, I totally get why they've done it and their target audience but for me I have my turntables set horizontally.
Pioneer is certainly making a statement in 2023. This looks incredible but its not enough to pull me away from my CDJs. As for the price- if you compare it to the price of the recently re released Technics then consider all the extra features of the Pioneer player, it's fairly priced.
@@digitaldjtips Agreed. I had one side by side with my old Technics 1200 (from almost thirty years ago) and the old one was better (thing is like a tank). I still think the PLX is fairly priced for what it does and I would be surprised if someone preferred the new Technics over this. This will be the new standard for turntables. I don't even really do vinyl and I plan to buy one to play around with it. I still have my two old Technics and probably 10,000 or so records from my vinyl days, I'm sure I'll find a use for it. Now if I can just find an S11 for my scratch setup, has been out of stock by me for almost two years now (maybe an S13 is in the works).........
GREAT review Phil. It's pricing but may be worth it because it packs a lot. ButvIve already got 1210mk2, S9 mixer, DDJ-1000, SX2, Serato and Rekordbox with STEMS.
I feel like pioneer knew I was looking at the rane twelve MK II and wondering whether we were due for a MK III. Rane one vs rev 7; rane four vs flx 10. These teams are trying to scoop each other. I wonder if we’ll see other vendors looking at the turntable controller segment as an area for future innovation.
Thank you so much for sharing. Im buying this for my home cave. I don't have a ton of space to store my vinyls so I think its a great solution. Im trying to find some info about what mixer is recommended. Im thinking aboiut the DJM-S5 and got a ok combo deal from my store but im also thinking if I should go all the way to the DJM-S11. I know its a big price jump and "if you can afford it" comes to mind but what is the really big advantages of the S11? Thanx again for sharing all your great content!.
I'm still waiting for the day i dont need to use a laptop with it and having to carry around a heavy bag full of vinyl to use with it. For example it would be nice to see a USB slot and a built in screen for reading playlists
Cool idea and was debating on updating my ancient but bulletproof Technics 1200 MK2s to the new MK7s. The fit and finish looks nothing compared to a 1200. Also, I wonder how long until these seem dated because of all the technology.
@digitaldjtips - is it possible to run this turntable in DVS mode (with a laptop) into an analogue mixer? In other words - does the audio out from the turntable also carry the DVS audio or does the setup require a DVS enabled soundcard? I have a xone db4 mixer and I was hoping this turntable would provide the DVS audio in it... thanks
Can i use this as an extra deck while using my opus quad, for example set it as deck 3 and control rekordbox deck three and have my opus working as deck 1-2-4, so basically controlling deck three using the digital deck the crss 12 has and the other decks with the opus and both devices connected to rekord box
@@digitaldjtips hmmm it would be a very sick set up butttttt before i buy a 1000 something dollar turn table i meed to do my research, and btw it would be great if you guys could like maybe try it out and see if it works if you still have the thurn tables and the opus 😅, oh and your videos and lives are amazing
@@digitaldjtips We need a silent cue, a sync button, key lock, pitch bend etc. not another way to trigger hot cue. I don’t understand why they choose always the same shortcuts layout, it's a turntable! I need CDJ buttons not DJM on that part of my set-up, even REV7 have more interesting stuff around the plater
Great video, thanks. Could you please check the actual WOW&Flutter? They report a 0.15% figure, which clashes to the 0.01% of PLX-1000 (Which contrasts with my own measurements) and the 0.025% of ALL SL 1200 MKn. Thank you in advance
To be honest I don’t see why they don’t have a usb drive input with a small touch screen for browsing the files. This would be a game changer. If I could just have tracks on a usb same as xdj or cdj and insert into the turntable
Why can't these companies just add a USB drive in their turntable units, so we can ditch the software and just play music like we do on the CDJ's that have USB and CD? Is there something like that already ?
Gonna be a very busy fall.. I kinda hate how predatory this dj industry has become.. people aren’t made of money it takes months of planning and saving for most people and when people invest any significant sort of money seems like you got maybe a year to 2 years before your stuffs outdated… Forcing you to buy again what’s equivalent to a used car every time.
Nobody is "forced" and Nobody is a "predator". There's people still performing on 10 yr old and older gear, and making serious money. You decide when you upgrade, if you can't then don't. Not that complicated and it's certainly not some conspiracy.
The bottom line is that DJs are still looking for that elusive 1200 feel despite all the controllers in the market for decades. 1200s are still influencing DJ hardware R&D
Pretty cool, though, I think if you've already got a pair of technics/phase-controls/dicer(midi pads), then you've basically already got most of the things on offer here, with the benefit of being able to play 45s. One thing that would be interesting to know is how sound quality is stacking up to a technics 1210 using the same needles.
@@digitaldjtipsin their website they are saying the sound has been improved over the PLX-1000…but they also said the same about the A9 and a quick comparative with A&H 96 proved… the sound hasn’t changed that much. Although it’s a different subject
They have to keep up with Denon. This though is definitely a step ahead on Denon.A9mixer also good I'm wondering when Denon will come out with a new mixer
i would use the decks for the stems and the mixer for the cue points .That way you do not get your modes mixed up and you could have those set and ready to go when you need them.Stems and cues are my main pad modes.I just cant get these because Pioneer tax and i have mk 2 Rane 12s but i will need these one day but it might be a while
Now that is definitely good for me as was planning to go back to vinyl but didn't want a controller and a vinyl setup- this is basically a hybrid system can go from Rekordbox/Serato and then back to vinyl. Am very interested- also would look damn good when doing live sets I bet. Also means people can choose what to use and when, am liking it
Why have they put the pitch control behind the needle at the back of the turntable? Surely the pitch control is the most important part of the turntable unless you're just hitting sync all the time in which case why would you invest so much money on a turntable? Seems like it's been designed by people who have no experience of traditional turntable mixing.
Because it is aimed at scratch DJs who rotate traditional turntables by 90 degrees so they are this way around, to make it less likely they’ll knock the tonearm when scratching.
He forgot to mention that when you 're working without the tonearm, the software is on DVS mode (absolute or reltive) and not on internal mode. This means that this unit is not actually a controller in that mode but it's using a control signal that is been send by the rca plugs without the use of vinyl and without usb been plugged. It's DVS on both situations.
I understand this distinction technically... but is there any difference in terms of performance or user experience between the two modes? My guess is no, but I don't know.
@@brunsomarrr well, for starter, you DON'T have to plug in the USB in your computer. Probably there is more. 2nd if there id other software that works with Serato or Rekordbox tones, it's already compatible as is, for controlling the track without any driver (for buttons you have to plug USB and have drivers). I believe there are other programs using these tones out there
And when you do that... (without the tonearm) and are in abs mode... how do you "set the needle" (without the tonarm), means, which part of the song is it playing then?!
Those dust covers would offend me, everything on those decks is designed to be used battle style, except the dust covers, the Pioneer logo is the wrong way round...
I got a PLX-1000 and had to sell it back after a few weeks. Nothing related to warranty covered issues. Problems came from the very conception of the product. 1) The deck is heavy, yet its isolation is really bad; 2) Pitch resolution is so raw that one has to keep on syncing records for lack of a midpoint; 3) The lamp jumps up to quickly that a big noise corrupts the smoothness of a running music; 4) Wow & Flutter is about 0.05-0.08, far from the declared 0.01. For a comparison, my Technics SL 1200 MK2 scores 0.02-0.03%. The new PLX-CRSS12 seems to have all these issued unresolved. Moreover, declared Wow & Flutter is 0.15 !!! Last, from this video, I note the tremendous delay at showing a speed change caused by moving the pitch control unit. For me, this is enough to prevent from me to buy this new turntable.
@@Fran-or3lt Exactly, 'influencers', including digitaldjtips hosting this comment, do emphasize pros, sometimes merely declared pros (without verifying they really exist), and hide ALL cons.
This is something DJ Angelo, JFB and DJ Q-Bert would use. James Hype won’t use it as hasn’t got the “Cue” button apart from Cue pads it could work for him. Time will tell. I’m not a pioneer fan but as a “DJ” I use whatever thrown in front of me. My preference is Traktor S4Mk3, Prime 4 and 1210s mk2.
Theirs no standard no more play out you just see anything in this day of age Denons Or newmarks Or piooners There is no standard for a dj any more Too many products out there Real djs where o. 1210s The days have gone
Great run down mate - as always. Would have been good to hear you play an actual vinyl record in the video. Side by side on sound quality would have been great as I find DVS setups sound very different to vinyl setups.
It's nice to see Pioneer DJ taking this kind of direction, but the price... for that kind of money you got 2 RP8000MK2 + Phase (even the 4 remote version) and you still got money for a good scratch mixer. Lot of way they could done that better, like using the same layout as the RP8000 for the little pad (Reloop make them bigger on the MK2 for a reason), put the little control next to the target light instead of under the tonearm, and why not make this little magnet thing (which seems like a great idea anyway) the same size as the 45rpm adapter so it can be use that way. The pitch step is also something great that should be on every player, more intuitive than having a separate tone control. I'm waiting to see how those can handle rumble, as the PLX aren't great with that. (also, why Pioneer alway find long complicated name with letter that no one know what they mean :) )
I guess it's not a ludicrous price given it's doing double duty, albeit stripped back. It really would nearly halve the required space for people who have proper controllers plus traditional decks. It seems odd to me if it's designed to be run in battle mode to not make the unit marginally wider and move the pitch control down to the right like all other modern controllers. Plenty of other things have been changed why not adjust the form factor so you don't have to reach back behind the tonearm? Suddenly you can move the small screen up so it's not set under the tonearm anymore.
I'm also not a fan of battle mode, but it seems like the target audience for a product like this is the die-hard turntable using crowd, which leans towards turntablism/hi-hop scratch Djing (why else are they holding onto their 12" decks for so long...). I wish this CRSS-12 could have been designed so the visual cues work well in either format but... I'm not sure how that would've been possible.
I don't understand the hype surrounding these decks. They're $1,400 a piece and are basically a watered down version of the Reloop RP 8000 MK2 which could be had on sale at the moment for $650. Yeah, the clamp is cool, but who cares if you're not using Serato or Rekordbox? A pair of RP 8000 mk2s and PHASE will run you around $1,700 while a pair of these go for 2,800 with less features and PHASE is still needed if not on Serato or Rekordbox 😂
EVERYONE would have these if the were $1000. For me the price is just too much I think. And i'm in the market bu ti'm not rich or a working dj. Just and old guy that had 12s in the 90s. And when i think i can probably get 2 reloop 7000s and phase for the price of one turntable That's a big difference. And me? I still need a mixer, headphones, software, and to build some sort of Kallax table since i'd be starting from scratch so the turntables are not the only expense.
do you have to use that mixer for it can you also use the 450 mixer with this for also playing digital pc input? i like more the club looking mixers thx
most of these guys are missing something big they wont work if u dont plug your rca cables i thought that i only need the usb cables to the mixer it took me 3 hours to find out they wont work without the rca cables
the moment i woke up and saw a pic of this thing i knew we had a new hybrid deck coming out .This is a Rane 12mk 2 but with a tone arm .Everything i have ever wanted in a turntable but i have the Rane 12s and i just can not afford these very lovely machines....yet...Sniff....
