Some friends push you to spend money on scenic flights while other friends might push you to go run until 11pm the day before a big day out. Either way you’ll be happy you listened to your friend. At least until your wife sees the bill or your knee needs surgery. On this episode we wrap up our Alaskan adventure with a 7500 ft climb to the summit of Pioneer Peak in the Chugach mountain range. The perfect ending for a hard charging trip to the last frontier. Seriously though, my wife must never find out how much I spent on that scenic flight.

Its the AEG. Most trackers count *every* bit of climb you do. This peak is just short of 6400ft, and you're gaining most every bit of that in a few miles. Basically it averages out to around 1000ft per mile.

Seeing all the guys with their Black Diamond poles reminds me of the video with "Fat Weesy" Blake where Danny called poles a "gateway gear to like big rimmed hats and vented shirts. Blake is well on his way to just giving it all up and becoming an old man who doesn’t run but can power walk like the best of them". The point is this...we still miss Blake, but we can see his impact even when he's not with the guys.

I'm 59 and spent the '80's, 90's and early 2000's doing what these guys do. Not at the the level of MA but not too far behind. My knees are not doing well, tomorrow I will try and do a hike to see how the left knee is fairing. I did a 12 mile hike 2 months ago and the left one went out at the end. I love these guys, brings back the joy of mountains.

Sorry to hear you’re not able to these things anymore Gregg. At 59, I’m ramping up and getting faster and taking on longer day as the months progress. Not at the level of these guys yet, but hoping to get there. We did do a 26 km, 2659 m three peak day this summer. But it took 12.5 hrs. I went plant based food at the beginning of the year and I think that’s helping. Hopefully your health improves.

@@alane3983 wow you're doing very well for 59 if you're able to perform at that level. I've been thinking of switching to a plant based diet since we've all gone inside this year. You should check out Foresty Forest channel. He's a Canadian guy living in his mini van but, every video he goes out and climbs a new peak. Many haven't been climbed in decades (or at least the log books suggest this). Some great climbs for sure. Plus, his slow-cooker cooking is a running joke on the channel.

Another killer hike. I did about 8.5 miles and 4,000 ft of climbing in Wyoming in August, so I'm getting tired out just watching this one! I'm guessing these guys are about my age, and I marvel at how they still have the knees to do all the running that they do. (I gave up running for biking and swimming a while back.) Those trekking poles can really make a difference though.
