Wouldve been kool to hear her run on a dyno or powering something. Most places just have the big gas engines idiling along just like this. Till you hear one actually work they dont seem as interesting but worked hard they are incredibly awesome!!
I bet the good/proud feeling never gets old, after you do all pre start stuff then spin the flywheel and the old girl starts chugging away as it should. It would be cool to hook it up to an old school (the kind we used to take turns cranking) ice cream maker just for the fun of it. People would have two senses stimulated, the sweetness of the ice cream and of the sweet chugging away of the old engine. I mean who doesn't want a 50 hp ice cream maker?
I was a charter member of Branch 3 in San Jose, California about 45 years ago. The 3 ft distance of safety ropes is partially based upon safety guidelines developed within Branch 3. Great people headed Branch 3 for over 3 decades, and some are still very much involved. The carb is most likely a large Shebler updraft unit.
@@edgeta2456 -- Thanks!! I worked during the Steam-up for over 20 years. No longer though. The reigns have been handed over to a new and younger crew of Blacksmiths. You know how time marches on and we old Folks get worn down. Lots of great memories though!!
Benjamin Holt used Sampson steam engines to power his farm tractors. He went on to build all his own engines. Stockton had several stream engines manufacturers back in the day. Most of both Hold and Sampson's old buildings are still standing in south Stockton just south of the X-Town Frw.
Glad you liked it Matt. It took a while and there is a lot we couldn't get into it because of the file format of the machine shop work on the governor and carb.
What an engine, thanks for putting up the video and telling the story of it. Going to auction eh? Hopefully it goes to someone who will show it and not lock it up in some barn someplace.
After watching every detail of this incredible engine, & for what methodical restoration work went into its functionality once more, I rushed out to purchase a couple lotto scratchers “🤞🏼”
If I understand correctly, the fair where Miller was displaying his engines was in Pima (peema) county, not Pyma or Pymax county. Had me confused for a while.
At approximately the 1 minute mark they give the name of the companies founder. But these old ears were incapable of making it out. Could you please respond with the gentleman's name? Thank you.
