This is a short video of my Pioneer SX-850 Receiver. The unit is very nice. I got this receiver about 5 years ago and I remember recapping it and cleaning it. The only imperfection with this unit is in the wooden case.
The previous owner did not take good care of it and it was rotten. I tried and did some work and it looks half decent now. The receiver works like a dream. Hope you like what you see, let me know if you have any question and please subscribe. Thanks for watching.

I'd like to get one of these at some point. I think the Pioneer 50 series receivers are one of the best looking pieces of Hi-Fi ever. I don't know exactly what makes me like them so much, but I think it's the fact that everything is silver except the deep red indicator lights which sort of match the wood.

You are right. I light the 50s series better than the 80s series. I find the black meters in the 8 series odd for my taste. I hope you have luck finding one as they have become harder to get and more expensive. I think I have a video for a 980SX, please check it out when possible, thanks.

It's the one my older brother in law had. Awesome. When it was my turn to buy, I could only afford the 780. Still works perfect since 1980

The Pioneer SX-850 pushes out 65 watts per Channel RMS. I have the Pioneer SX-980 that's 80 watt per Channel RMS.

Just bought one for 400 dollars and I was going to recap it but damn, it sounds fantastic right now! I mean i will recap it at some point but at the moment I'm really impressed with it.

If it's working/sounding good leave it alone. You can put the recapping in the back burner. One thing is for sure, if it sounds good now, after recapping will sound much better. But again, at this time just enjoy it! 🙂

I had a so called expert tell me to recap mine and I took it to another guy and told him to do that. it would crackle a bit on one side. He told me they never go bad and unless they are obviously burnt or leaking don't touch them. after 1 bucks worth of contact cleaner it sounds amazing.

I’ve had and heard mine before & after recapped. Man the difference was immediately noticed. Mostly on the clarity side of the audio. The second noticeable difference was the Power !! Man when you move the volume pot from one to three the SX 850 leaps forward and hits you in the chest. There are a few resistors that will get out of specs putting it into protection. Enjoy this fantastic receiver 🎶🎶👊🏾

A 40 year old pioneer needs to be opened up, and at the very least, a complete cap job along with various other components tested and replaced.

All that was done to this one. The receiver went through an extensive recap and tune. Thanks for the comment. 👍

This is true but I just bought one last week and damn, it sounds fantastic. Great sound stage and it's really clean sounding. I will recap it though because if it sounds this good some 40 years after manufacture its gonna sound better with new components.

@@Darrylizer1 I took mine in because a couple switches began to act up a few years back. But as long as everything is still working smoothly on yours, not sure if it is worth it. Mine has been in the shop since last November for the overhaul (one guy/one shop). He called me a couple weeks ago to confirm a complete cap job and testing of all components with new power supply, LED lights, etc... Said it would be about $800, but that it would be like new again and would sound it's best. Probably last another 50 years. I'd rather do this and know what I've got, rather than buying one with a questionable background. Besides, they don't make 'em like this anymore. The sound is fantastic! Good luck!
