All this can be done with 80prs plus u get 5v output and the sound quality is great

Well I didn't... this radio is JUNK. Spent the entire afternoon installing it only to find that the rear channels were almost inaudible only to just QUIT moments later. Thankfully I bought it from Crutchfield who is more than happy to exchange/replace/whatever... good people. The Pioneer was a TOTAL disappointment, and the display, pfft, what a load of CRAP that is, I could BARELY SEE IT when it's not even bright outside. The instruction manual is pathetic and the menus are a nightmare. I should have bought another Kenwood like I figured. I've had two other Kenwoods and liked them both, neither of which were Excelons, but I'm sending the Pioneer POS back and upgrading to the Kenwood Excelon 998. I should have gotten that radio in the first place.

@@palerider55 I agree. I had this radio installed in my wifes car, cause it was the cheapest available. Now I know why. I think trying to decipher a quantum physics formula would be simpler, than trying to figure out operating this POS radio. The print on the manual is only legible for the under 18 crowd. All I wanted was to replace the factory radio, cause the screen wouldn't display, and I missed the clock. On this new radio, I can set the clock, but don't know how to have it constantly displayed. It has more bells and whistles than the space shuttle. Have had it a year, and have given up trying to operate it, cause it's so complicated. I keep leaving my car unlocked, hoping some-one will steal it. Once a thief returned it with a note, saying, "you can have it. "

@@robinrhajcoomar I think it is. I'm sure that the 80prs was killer in its time, but the 8800 is more modern. I posted my comment two years ago. At this point, the 80prs is discontinued. I wonder if Pioneer will come out with an updated version?

Yes Alpine radios started doing it 2- years ago. I hope Pioneer keeps improving it and does not forget about it like other apps. A big plus would be tablet control, one can only hope.

jjacstcy yes you will need the radio interface like the RP4-ch11. If you are going to do an iPad you may want to check the Kenwood. Their control app works on an the iPad.

Pioneer is using a new mic. It may just be a new vender, but it is new. The current mic comes in a blue bag, the old one came in a pink bag. These radios and the Nex radios have this new mic. The real question is do they sound better, not that we can tell. The other improvement "wide band speech" was introduced into the line last year I believe. That was a big improvement over the older Bluetooth.

Is it turned on in the menu? Put a volt meter set to AC on the RCA output and play a pink noise track. See if you get any output.

Ran into a snag, its the '05 chrysler town & country with infinity sound system. Think im going to have to run a bypass harness, i have no nbs relay and wasnt getting sound after i had everything hooked up. It's NEVER as easy as it seems lol

diego mcallen that is a good question. If you took all the fun and games away and just look at sound I would say Alpine. Man it would be close though. I really like the sound of the single din Alpines.

BAD Ben you will want to use standard mode. Yes just plug the mic into the aux input on the back.

rateb alzeer no you have to choose which one you are going to use for Data. Front or rear, so no 2 things at once. Also ACR will not work on an iPad, it locks you out. Kind of sucks that's why we never did an iPad video.

It does have support for MTP in the smartphone settings for Android. We have never tested it because most people just want to do it over Bluetooth. If we have time tomorrow we will give it a try.

+Five Star Car Stereo I'm in the lookout for a nice sounding head unit. I've zeroed down to Kenwood x998, Pioneer x8800, Sony MEX-GS610 and Alpine 148. out of these which one would you suggest for sound quality and ease of use (can be operated without taking eyes off road)

+letsyo I'm not real familiar with the Sony but I would look at the Alpine or the Pioneer. They are both pretty basic for basic use while driving. The both also have smartphone apps for the EQ setup that make life a lot easier.

This thing is great! I didn't reallize how bad the JVC (unit sounded. I can enjoy my car stereo like I'm 25 again (30 years ago) gonna load "true blue" and some glass tiger on a thumb drive and listen to it!

iConvictt- now this is a good choice. Like the Alpine you asked about, great features and pretty amazing sound. The nice thing about this radio is the easy of use compared to the 80. I really like this radio and would go with this for sure.

Five Star Car Stereo thanks for the reply.. I was looking into these because a employer from a audio shop told me these were the only ones that would fit my car , "I wanted a double din" .. I have a 06 Toyota Avalon with Jbl synthesis audio and the only way he said a double din would fit is a custom job.. because of the "dash kit, it has a stereo cover door". I jus found custom dash kits for my car online that allow a double din to be installed .. do you think the avh 4200nex is a good choice

iConvictt- yes Metra makse the 95-8215s dash kit. We just put an 8200 in one a couple of weeks back. Nice kit. Yes the 4200 is a good choice for sure.
