But I have questions.... 1) what is actually meant by head loss 2) what is the difference between head loss and pressure loss 3) first you find P1-P2 how it is different from head loss 4) why can't we consider difference in height of Mercury as a head loss ? Head loss is actually the height equivalent of water of difference in pressure i.e delta P Head loss is as above and pressure loss is simply P1-P2 Difference in height of mercury cannot be considered because water is flowing inside the pipe and not mercury. So we have to first calculate P1-P2 and then change it to head loss for water using density of water not mercury.
