I would love to see a complete inventory of all your builds. Plus the big question, "Where do you keep them all or do you sell some of them to help finance other builds?"
If he sells any it would probably be locally as I can't imagine nothing short of divine intervention would see them survive a shipping trip in perfect condition to a far off address given how delicate plenty parts of them are. My father loved building models, so I know its fairly common for builders to like to hold on to there works rather then sell them off if they can. Makes sense when you think about it, you invest lot of time and energy into something like this and it sorta becomes a part of you and to send it off almost feels like cutting off a limb. Also one of the reasons why any time an accident happens and a finished build gets extremely damaged it can hit the creator hard as an tungsten orbital strike.
I love the fact that your pirate battle doesn't occur on a flat calm sea, as so many "experts" depict their ship models upon. I find it unlikely both sailing vessels would have the wind astern on opposite courses. Your water technique is both simple and awe inspiring!
The sails should've been angled to depict a single wind direction, but this might be a limitation of the models. A lot of plastic models I see are made to go together in one way and don't allow room for adjustment. Sad really because it's the first thing I noticed. Kinda draws my attention away from the fantastic water and cannon fire details.
Okay, every time I see all these models you make I just wonder ONE thing. WHERE DO YOU PUT THEM?! You make so many amazing things that aren't exactly small and you keep making them! How do you store them? How many shelves do you have of display after display? Can we get a tour of all of your models?
I love the (perhaps unintentional?) implication that the Dutchman is running down her own wind, as opposed to the "actual" wind that the SOCHM is running down. Really adds a level of supernaturalness and I believe (though I might have dreamed this) that there are versions of the myth where the Flying Dutchman sailed with her own supernatural storm always accompanying her and filling her sails so that fits this build well. Seriously well done on the cannons and those red sails too.
Yes, most versions of the Flying Dutchman [that i've heard of depict] her either sailing like she has a hurricane behind her, or that she is either constantly accompanied or has a supernatural ability to control and/or spawn a powerful gale, as the Flying Dutchman sank in a gale
the water effect is mindblowing! I've seen realistic water effect before only with the use of Casting Resin. But the tinfoil and the coloration in combination with the ultra-glossy finish is ingenious
Great build dude! Only 1 piece of advice when building ship dioramas in the future: make them sit deeper in the water. Right now they look a bit.. floty. The ladder on the side of the dutchman should sit a little above the waterline, so it can actually be used when climbing into rowboats etc. For ships without ladders, its usually at its widest part where the waterline is.
Same. I thought he was going to use clear resin to show them sitting deeper, but alas he did not. Once you see it not correct, it sticks out really bad and so obviously every time I look at it.
Hey Boylei, you inspired me to design and 3D print the Millennium Falcon as a Christmas Tree topper. I painted it up, weathered it and then added EL wire for the blue engine. I was really impressed with my first attempt at painting models or anything 3d printed.
Frankly, I am so enamored with the whole Pirate theme in general, that this build literally brought tears to my eyes. Just beautiful and gorgeous and so well executed. Thank you so much. Thank you also for linking other artists videos, very kind of you to support others. I am going to binge watch more tomorrow, looking forward to it. Just incredibly fabulous work here.
Another amazing creation. Never apologize for your work not looking as it should compared to the box. They are Your works of art and turn out Just as You want them, Amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent with us, and your other friends works as well.
Unbelievable. The creations, the creativity. Even the macro things, such as the sound effects of canonballs in the distance at the end, 09:07. Its just all around beautiful.
This was awesome to watch! From the thumbnail it looked as if the picture frame base was a book that you had created the diorama within (like Treasure Planet's holographic story book). Do you think making a diorama within a book would be something you would be interested in doing in the future?
That was my thought exactly! That the picture frame (and the fact that the water, while gorgeous, lacks the sense of depth you get with resin) makes it feel like a fully 3D pop up a la Treasure Planet.
I'm a real fan of diorama art, and have visited many historic maritime museums in the U.S as well as Europe in witness to some tremendous pieces of ship depictions. I am wholly impressed by both your creativity and technique. As a sailor, the singular departure from reality here would be two ships of full sail in a downwind run going in opposite directions. Otherwise, your realism is striking and a beautiful thing to behold.
QUESTION: What glues are you using? This would make life so much easier. I know one is Plastruct plastic Weld. I'm building a ship and have been subbed to your channel for a whole now, are things like this video on your patreon?
That water looks AMAZING. I am always astounded at what amazing works of art you come up with. You definitely make me want to get a model and try it out! Maybe not a ship but something easier.
Hey Boylei great build as always. I have an idea for your wild imaginary west series. You should build some sort of ranch where they keep and try to domesticate some of the wild imaginary animals.
Dude awesome job as always!!! I you could not help it but the sails are both full of wind and facing opposite directions... bit it's kinda like Hollywood it looks really cool...
Ok, the way you used to torch to make waves was genius and I never would have thought about that. This video is so cool and this build is my favorite one you've done so far this month!
I love this kind of ship, and it's because of that I notice the orientation of the sails related to the wind... both riggings should be looking in the same direction!! ...I'm sorry, the build is incredible, but I can't unsee that
It always amazes me the extent of your talent and how much effort you personally put into these videos. But did you mean to say, "Jolly Ranchers" (0:04) at the beginning, because I was eating one and I thought my mind was playing tricks on me for a second lol.
Beautiful Diorama - enjoyed the fun extras in the text too, I'm sure I missed some, but here were some standouts: Jolly Rancher instead of Roger haha boo box from Hook nice 3 masts, including the fore mast, five mast and six mast - love it A full 1 week build is twelve hours that's why I turned this into a 2 week build. love it
I built up the 1st ship a few months ago as HMS Surprise from Master and Commander! Love your work as always and I haven't ever seen anyone tackle a ship battle in this scale, bravo!!
This is really beautiful. With this diorama you have catched the exact moment, where the cannons start to fire, before the black powder smoke will cover nearly everything between those ships. Plus that particular music, while the diorama turns around itselfe. Fantastic work! Thanks for sharing.
This is so cool. Watching the final reveal, I kept hearing the captains voice from the POTC ride at Disneyland: “give ‘em a broadside lads!” Love this build.
I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat, I've always loved anything pirate themed or old ships. This is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen, awesome!
I am so amazed at the models and your work.. just beautiful and realistic with the lights, just awesome.. crikey.. love that work of art I would say and the battle on the waves and those waves are very imaginative and well done.. never thought of that.. wow.. again.. amazing work.. loved every detail and video.. Ace!
Wow! I don't even know how I found myself here, but that was incredible! I especially love the water. I was having all sorts of flashbacks of when I used to build those model kits when I was a child. (Just the basic design, nothing like this.) I'm so uncreative that it wouldn't even have entered my mind that you can start with the basic design and then do all sorts of things to it and make it your own.
I'm a big fan, Boylei. I do not make models or dioramas, but I am a craftsman. I work with leather and cast iron. I watch your videos because I appreciate your skill and it is very relaxing to see stuff come together. Your creativity also helps me figure out new ways to do things in my own medium. Keep up the great work, little brother.
I absolutely love your creativity and attention to details. Your builds are always awesome. I will point out that in placing the ships in a passing configuration the wind would not fill both sets of sails. The only big flaw in this marvelous build.
@@FarawayFragranceI listened twice after reading your comment. He NEVER stated this. At all. If you inferred this from nautical legends or read it in a written statement that I missed, so be it. The thing is, this is not his only sailing ship build. The sails going converse to each other has occurred in each of the builds. In point of fact, I cannot remember ever seeing ANY modeler, regardless of supernatural nautical legends or dismissals, that has ever done a head to head battle with the wind going correctly for both vessels.
@@erikbrush yeah it wasn’t in the video I pulled it from nautical legend, not sure why I was so angry on the previous reply but maybe I should build a diorama of 2 pirate ships going in the right directions lmao
A perfect project to try watered down PVA glue with the cotton wool. I wonder if it is good enough for the lighting, but it looks so good! Great built!
❤ I have a closet love for ships. Idk why. But this build is absolutely stunning!! Beautifully done Sir. All the patreons did some really impressive work as well. Well done. 💐🏅⚓️
