This totally resonates. we were in our late teens. He was extremely wealthy, my family was known around our area as 'different' from everyone else and barely scraping by. We were dating 4 mos.and one evening at his (gorgeous home) his mother came home from wherever and the shock, the expression on her face said it all. She called him into the kitchen, and within one hour he had taken me home and called to tell me he couldn't see me anyumore. At least 6 times I asked, "but at least tell me why", and all he ever said was "I can't".That was 50 years ago and I still feel sad, hurt and miss him. I don't know if I'll ever get over the pain of how he mistreated me that evening. I would've been an embarassment to his family.
