Greatest mulching video ever. Watching you battle that swarm was classic. I hate bees and especially yellow jackets, but must admit, I did giggle a bit watching you fight.
Idk about yellow jackets, but for wasps I mix water and a little Dawn dishwasher soap up and fill up a super soaker and spray them. Knocks them down instantly. The soap apparently coats their wings/body so they can’t fly and they suffocate/die.
You've just sacrificed a camera and tripod to the bee gods, or demons, but watching someone else getting swarmed by them is way more comical than being swarmed.
I think the yellowjackets settled your point on man/ machine vs landscapers/ by hand. You were actually able to complete the job, if a crew of landscapers disturbed that nest it would’ve been ugly!
Last video i was gonna ask if you've ever run into and under ground nest. Happened to me in an open cab once. Has an owner ever not let you Film a Job?
As one who is highly allergic to both wasp and bee venom, the only thing I could suggest is that you have a can wasp/bee killer in the cab with you at all times. And like it has been suggested, if you see a nest spray it first, heavily before destroying the nest.
@AthenaSchroedinger if you're highly allergic to bee/wasp venom, I'd suggest that you keep some liquid benadryl handy, so you can take it quickly to stop the allergic reactions if you don't have or use epi pens.
Great job mulching!!! You did a great job battling those yellow jackets!!! I'd say that you definitely won that war against them!!! 🎉 🙂 I'd suggest that you always carry bee/wasp spray with you in your machines, as well as keeping liquid benadryl handy so you can take it in an emergency to stop a allergic reaction before or during the onset of it. There's a powder that can be put on the ground nests of yellow jackets to kill them. I'm not sure what the name of the of powder is, but you can check wherever bug/pest killers are sold. I'd suggest that you get some of the sticky bug traps for the inside of your machines tacked up somewhere, so that way if any biting, stinging bugs do make it inside of your machines, chances are that they'll land on them & then it's full, just replace it with a fresh sticky trap. The yellow jackets are probably reacting to the sound of the machine, which could be aggravating them. Personally speaking, I would have just left the GoPro behind & finished the job, then came back to get the camera when they weren't so upset. Keep up the great work!!! 🙂 ❤️
I stepped on a rotten log in the bush just happened to be a wasp nest inside, i ennded up in emergency in a lot of pain. Not cool nasty things. Sorry you got stung. If you can find a tin of underarm spray just spray the spot and it will eventually take away the sting , doctors in emergency did this for me and i was sure thankful. stay safe.
yellowjackets.... those always tend to nest in the ground and can have a couple thousand workers. they have an aggressive hive defense and unlike honeybees can sting repeatedly and can actually be deadly. down in central/south florida the hive don't die out in winter and can get very large (into the 10+ft tall range) and can house millions of workers. keep carb clean or brake clean in the cab, that shit will take down any buzzer that gets in the cab.
I’m cracking up watching this. I hate yellow jackets. They are thick as crap on that GoPro. I did a job over the weekend on my mt100 and I got lucky I didn’t get in any. I’ve got to go back and do the backyard and I’m thinking about getting a bee suit because it’s all bamboo back there. I’d rather look stupid operating a bobcat than be stupid lol.
You may want to consider adding a fogger to your arsenal. Fill it with something that contains alot of pyrethrim. When you track out of the area start your fogging on the upwind side and it will chase the pests downwind. Stay in your cab and continue working a d allow the pesticide to do it's work. This is the procedure I use while harvesting timber in East Texas.
Same here in Minnesota. I use a Stihl backpack blower with a Permethrin derivative called Bifenthrin. It lasts longer than Permethrin but either should work. They take 10-20 minutes to kill the bugs. So don’t expect immediate knockdown.
Might be time to INVEST in a Hornet/ 🐝🐝 like suit to keep in the your machine that you are using for that day, moving it from One piece of Equipment to the Next and ALWAYS keep a couple of cans of that SPRAY in EACH One of your machines, just a friendly suggestion buddy, might SAVE you some time and DEFINITELY PAIN in the future, BE SAFE and CYA soon Next TIME Brother ✌️👍🌞🚜😎
OK, watching you fight with the yellow jackets was entertaining. 😅😅 But I'm glad you weren't too hurt, well your butt might not agree. 😂 as always, thank you for the video!
Know it was a pain for you but its good you stirred it up. Imagine if a child had gotten into that big of a nest. Good job!! Think id start leaving bout 4 cans of spray in my truck if I was you!! 🐝🐝
Spray cooking oil is great for bees/wasps/yellow jackets. It's cheaper too! It coats their body segments causing them to suffocate to death. No problem gettng on your skin or even in your eyes. Can spray upwind. Food is still edible if overspray lands. For swarms of Hornets - WD40 or Brake Cleaner. They drop in mid flight!
I use insecticide 7 powder. But I use the powder on the nest after dark. Get all in and around the nest entrance. Yeah the sprays work on the ones you can see but a nest like that the spray just can’t get all of them.
For your information, yellow jackets are extremely territorial!!! If you even go near their nest the entire colony will come after you until the animal is dead!!! No Joke!!!
Dude you had me dying LMAO, I got stung 6 times on the legs and looked like I was handicapped while walking thru Home Depot. and I am a honey bee keeper.
All I could think was don't loose a track 😮 Now I wonder what your annual bug spray budget is. 😅 You may have just saved someone else from a serious attack!
Working for att and I opened up arial terminal that was full of paper wasps, under my helmet, down my back, up my sleeves and up my pants...not a fun time. Stung over 50 times..got a little woozy.
😨🥺 Yellow jackets are my enemy!!! I was bitten once on each foot while cutting grass one time, and my feet swelled up so bad I couldn't get my shoes on!! Shower up to urgent care barefoot and had to get a shot in the butt!!!
Munching yellow jackets.. This time of year they’re at their most aggressive stage. The vibrations from the machine were probably agitating them from their ground nest.
I got stung last week 3 times in the same area within seconds of each other. Was working on my car and they flew up my shirt. Dang it them little buggers hurt!
Good thing you made it to the cab in time!!! Made for an exciting day huh? A ground nest of yellow jackets could have as many as 5,000 bees in it - the cones are under ground and have to been dug out.
Can you imagine doing all that work by hand and running into that nest. I think those were the smart “spelling bees”, they can read that can and knew to stay away.
😂😂😂 I think this is your Funniest video that I can remember 😂😂!! ❤❤ So sorry you got stung I dealt with a big nest I found mowing. I went back at night with a cup of gas and got to the hole and there were all these yellow jackets looking up at me Right at the top!! I had a rock, so I poured it all over them and placed the rock over the hole, and ran! All dead in the morning!!
One of the funniest videos we have had the pleasure to watch in a long time. Hopefully, you did not "melt" your camera as some of that stuff will destroy plastic.
They know the area well enough to know the tripod wasn't there before their nest was attacked so they assume the tripod is responsible. It's amazing how smart they are.
