I got one of those on clearance at Walmart for only $300 back in August. Since then, I have probably used it at least once or twice every week and it still works like it's brand new. It's a very good value.
I just got one of these Tuesday from Walmart for $169 they only had 2 left. I already have a cuisinart pellet grill I got from Walmart last year for $200 (msrp was $600+) so I have not even unboxed this one yet but now I have 2 pellet grills I guess.
Heck yes man! Loved this! Very thorough and so great to see your in-depth walkaround. We LOVE our Laredo, when your notification popped up, I had to click - smashed the like button brother!
Thanks for watching fellas!! Ya the Laredo is a great entry level pit for a great price!!! I have cooked on it 3 times since I did this video and so far so good!! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment! I certainly will check out your Laredo videos real soon!!!
I actually considered this pit but went with the Brunswick. Wonder how things would have turned out if I went that direction. Nice review of the pit, enjoyed it and the burn off talk. Thanks Ricer, you da man!!
I was preparing to do the burn off on my new Laredo and realized the auger was not turning. Pit Boss is sending me a new auger motor but won’t be here for 2 weeks🙂 Thanks for the video though will be watching again once I get part.
Picked one of the laredo's up for $300 nib. Fingers crossed that this smoker is good. Doing the burn in right now after assembly. Easy assembly with no fuss or nonsense. Using your method for the burn in. Already bought some upgrades like the thermal plate on the left and also the smoke tube for added smoke flavor. Might be getting the smoke daddy heat diffuser (thoughts?) also anothet question, should I be covering up the sear plate with foil when smoking a brisket? Thanks for the vid. Subbed channel and liked video.
Awesome!!! Have fun with that new pit!!!! I love anything from smoke daddy but I do not think you need the deflector. I do not foil them anymore, waste of time and more of a hassle. Thanks for watching!!!
Ya Papa this is a nice entry level pit for a good price! Nothing wrong with having a pellet grill when you want bbq but don't have the time to tend a fire!! Thanks for watching brother!!
i got the pro series 2 weeks ago. cooked a couple whole chickens that came out delicious as well as my first pulled pork butt yesterday! i love this grill
Heck ya David!! I am glad you are crushing the cooks!!! Pit Boss makes a nice pit at a great price!! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment brother!!
Hey buddy, always enjoy your videos, I will be curious to see how this cooks and holds up. Seems like Pit Boss is taking their quality to another level.
Hi Curtis!!! It is a good cooker for the price! I have cooked on it 3 times since I filmed this and it does a good job, it does not smoke as much as my Pit Boss 1600 though. Thanks for watching and I hope you are doing great!!
just picked up the 1150 for $750 and im kinda jealous of that auger access all though I havent had a reason to access mine yet still works ok...but san antonio weather im sure will change that one day.
I am in the market for another pellet grill and I appreciated this video. The only con, and you mentioned it, is the heat adjustment. I too like having the option to go up and down by 10 degrees. What other Pit Boss grill would be similar to this one?
Heck ya and have fun with that gobble gobble!!! Turkeys off a pellet grill is always great and you can get some crispy skin if you do it right!! Thanks for watching!!
Great video as always brother! I’m looking between this and the Austin XL to upgrade from something smaller. This one seems to have some great features for sure.
Not a bad pit but I have to add a smoke tube for this one to get as much flavor as I do off my Pro Series. But I do like this pit!! Thanks for watching but if I was you I would look at the Pro Series 850 at Lowe's also!!
Just picked this smoker up for 243.00 @ Walmart. Couldn't pass it up...🔥💯 Definitely an upgrade from my vertical smokey mountain series smoker. Glad I found this video, Thanks!
Smart move Carl!!! Sounds like they also have a controller update on that pit so take a look into it if you get the chance! I am not sure but someone left a comment on that this week!! Thanks for watching!
I have this smoker. No smoke after initial fire up. It has a S that shows up on screen when adjuster is pushed but doesnt seem to do anything. The meat tastes smoked just doesnt make smoke.
Got one of these about a year ago. Had some great cooks on it. But after time and use the plates began to chip and break where the flame was always exposed and the fan ended up blowing and I couldn’t get anything. I don’t think I’ll go back to a pit boss. Looking at traeger or Oklahoma Joe.
Jeff, good stuff brother. I enjoyed my KC COMBO for the short time I had it. The 1000 seems to be a smaller version. Its another well made pit from Pit Boss. Cheers.
Heck ya Tommy this is a great entry level pit for someone that isn't sure what they want but doesn't want to spend a lot of money! Thanks for watching brother!!
You really think the smoking chamber is smaller than the kc? I just picked a Laredo 1000 and I’m already impressed by how much bigger it feels to my kc
I just bought one at wallmart for half price ($300) . Kept getting an error code ,opened the auger axcess door and a wire wasn't even clipped together ,no biggie , did the burn off process that afternoon , that night I went to cook a steak and it takes forever to get to the high heat (500°) only could get it to 477°. My old pitboss would get to 550- 575, ( I like to sear my steaks) and the fan sounded like it was a more powerful fan. The fan on the new one sounds wimpy. Also on smoke mode the new one don't seem to generate as much smoke. On another note the pellet removal shoot on the back doesn't let all pellets out you have to use a paint stir stick to shove the ones from front out. Wish I had kept my old one for cooking steaks but the wife was in such a big hurry to get it out of here so I gave it to a friend that can't afford one (thanks honey). Do you have any suggestions what to do or if there is a problem with it ? Please and thank you for your feedback in advance.
Just picked one of these up today and did this burn off and it worked great. Dumb question the temp setting below 180 is it an S for just smoke or a 5?
I had a Laredo. I found the wifi too sketchy and I don't like that heat shield. This is true for their grills. The slide plate is heavy. When the grill cools the grease solidify and its a pain to separate the two pieces. I like my series 3 vertical from Pit Boss. If I were to upgrade the Sportsman 7 would be my go to. A cabinet , no wifi to mess with, huge hopper, multi-adjustable grate levels and takes less space than a grill as its vertical. I like my pit boss and 3 is the one I found works best. Excellent product and they will not bankrupt you.
The heat deflector has to be heavy with how close the firepot is to the lower grate. I do not have the Pit Boss vertical but I use my Smoke Daddy 2300 all the time for bigger cooks!! Thanks for watching!!
I bought this yesterday. The person I talked to at pit boss couldn't give me an answer. But when meat probs are not required, where should they be stored? Do they need to be pulled out of the fire box through the rubber grommets? Can the be left in fire box set to the left side? Seems pulling them out of the grommets when not needed would be a pain to do each time.
There is a spot to store them in the hopper if you want but I store mine in a container by all my other BBQ equipment. You want to take those probes out after every use and wash them up.
I see its been a year since you did the video and I'm now in the market for an upgrade from my $150 clearance sale Expert Grill smoker, it has lasted 3 years but the temps are starting to get unstable. Ive basically narrowed it down to the Laredo ($547) and a Pro Series ($699) as the 2 I like and has the functions like bluetooth/Wifi. Of course I prefer the pricepoint of the Laredo. What's you opinion now on the smoker?
It is getting harder to keep them in the garage for sure!!! hahaha Some of them will be getting new homes real soon!! Like always Robert I appreciate you watching!!
Heck ya Bobbi!! It truly gives you a chance to learn the pit while you are curing the paint! Plus burning out all the packaging and machining process debri!!! Like always I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment Bobbi!!!!!
I have ran a Yoder several times and the Lone Star Grillz is a better pit. Heavier and smokes more! I might get a YS640 in here someday and match the 2 up!?!?! Thanks for watching!!
Hey I see you have a oklahoma Joes bronco. I have tried a couple of techniques for burn time for smoking without having to add more fire. How long do you let the briquetts burn before throwing on the smoke and the meat?
Hi Willis! I typically start maybe 101-5 briquettes and once the pit is up to temp I put the meat on! I have not had to add any charcoal to any of my cooks. Thanks for watching brother!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Great. I am doing up some ribs today I will give that a try. Maybe that what I am doing wrong. I am always let all the briquetts ash over then start adding wood for smoke and throw down the meat. My first "city smoker" so still figuring it out.
Certainly is priced right and with some great features! I will say I have cooked on it 3 times now and today I added a smoke tube to enhance that smoke flavor a bit! I do not have that issue with the Pit Boss 1600! Thanks for watching!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks for the reply! Still worth keeping in mind if I get a chance to upgrade from my ZGrill (which cooks well enough. But is pretty feature barren.)
Since this model has a sear plate, it doesn't have a drip pan above the fire box like most Traeger's. In your opinion does that make cleaning the area underneath the grill grates way harder since you can't just cover it with foil?
You can foil the heat deflector. I just don't do that anymore because my buddies grease plate aka heat deflector rusted up quicker on his Traeger Pro. I just scrap it down after a messy cook. Thanks for watching!!
what do you think about the pro series 850. I THINK I would like a smaller grill to be able to control the heat better, am I correct? Would I miss the ash cleanout that the 1150 has?
Get the 1150, better controller than the 850. The 850 does not have to 10 degree increments up to 300. I had an 820 and that ran hotter from side to side than my 1100 did so size doesn't always mean more even heat. Thanks for watching!
Can you please tell me the measurement of the main rack grill? How wide is it and how deep is it, it is very important to me, even though I have searched for that measurement I have not been able to find the size, can you do that for me? please?
I bought a Laredo 1000 about a month ago. Unfortunately it has been nothing but headaches! Initially, it would take about an hour from start until it finally reached 400°F for searing steaks, it now struggles to go above 200°F . Pitboss has sent me a replacement board which didn't fix the issue. Now they are sending me yet another board and a replacement fan. How long does it take yours to get up to 350°F?
It takes a while but I never timed it out to that temp. I wonder if you have an igniter issue?? I like the Laredo but I have to use a smoke tube in it to get the flavor profile I am used to. It is quiet and runs steady but something is not right with how long yours is taking. Hopefully the next board does the trick!!! If not maybe you can return it but look at the 1150 from Lowe's. That pit runs a little better IMO. Thanks for watching and I hope you get this resolved Arnold!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ I opted to take it back before the second board got to me. I went to Walmart and swapped it out for a brand new one. The new one seems to be working a lot better but still took about 30 minutes to reach 377° f. I have to say it is a much improvement over the hour for the 400. I do notice that this one starts up a lot quicker than the previous one but once it gets to a certain temperature it climbs very slowly. Also I have noticed if I set it to 400 it runs 360 380 range and hardly ever gets to 400. For it to reach 400 I have to set it at 450 or H. It seems to be spot on with the lower temps for example if I set it to 200 it does that +-10 which is phenomenal. But I like to do high temp Cooks more than I'd like to do smokes and that's the issue I'm running into. I used to have a pro series first generation and it was excellent for high temperature Cooks as well as low and slow smokes. I have a whole 90 days to take it back if it doesn't meet my standards if that's the case I will be looking at the 1150. Thanks for your response I really appreciate it.
I know it’s been a while but I got one second hand and everytime I turned it on it says P 01. I know P settings are there on other smokers but was just trying to figure out if this one had an adjustable P setting
You know that little clip on the handle for the slide door? What a pain in the ASS. During a long cook good luck and the wifi sucks. I got the 850 3 months ago still a great smoker
I agree with the clip to make sure it closes back up. I did a pork butt yesterday and it did a good job but I added a smoke tube because it certainly need a boost of smoke flavor, I am spoiled now because of the Lone Star Grillz. Ya Pit Boss WiFi is not anything special yet! Like always Mike, I appreciate you watching brother!! Comparison coming soon on the 1600 vs the 1000!! You probably can figure who will win!!! hahaha
Hey can you possibly up load how to make sure the wiring harness should be cause i had a auger jam and accidentally unplugged the wiring as i was removing the hopper thinking I had to remove it thanks.
Sorry I do not have this pit anymore. I do have a video coming on this one that has been recorded but the pit is no longer here in the Nation. Thanks for watching and give Pit Boss a call I am sure they can help you out with this!!
Thanks sir that is my next step i just like seeing the visual you know but hey man i love your videos and took me a while to realize you are in Wisconsin so am I im in the Milwaukee/waukesha county area. Hopefully you know where that is.
Heck ya brother! I love it when other people from Wisconsin find the channel, I have traveled the state for decades so i am very very familiar of where you live!!! Appreciate you watching brother!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ hell yeah hey let me know when you post that video of the wiring and i will let you know if its exactly what i was looking for brother but im still gonna call pit boss tomorrow the pit been outbof commission and im eager to get back at it.
You use the smoke setting to boost a little extra smoky flavor at the beginning of the cook. Run it on smoke for an hour and then turn it up to 250°. It really only adds a tad more so typically I do not use it more than 30 to 60 minutes. Have fun cooking!
I have no experience with a Cuisinart but I would suggest you look at the Pit Boss Pro Series 850 or 1150 at Lowe's. I like those a little better. Hope this helps!!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ , thanks for the reply, I was also looking at the 850, the guy at lowes told me it was older and not as good as the laredo. Thanks for all your informational videos, I have watched quite a few of them now.
Ya it is at a very good price but I had to used a smoke tube to get the smoky flavor that I am used to. It runs good though but I haven't ran this pit for very long! Thanks for watching!
I just sold my Austin xL and just picked up the Laredo! I had used the Austin for about two years. I sold to a friend and went into Walmart to buy the updated Onyx color for the XL… but then I saw the Laredo. I love all the features or gimmicks, so I’m curious to see how it competes to the Austin xl.
I really can't even answer that because it does have a lot of similar features!?!?! Nice pit but I think I would pick the Pro Series over this model even if 1000 is a little less money! Thanks for watching!!
Hmmm I never had that issue, sounds like you didn't clean it out early enough?!?!? Just work it out slowly and hopefully it stays intact!! Thanks for watching!!
Sorry, one more comment. Everybody grunts and groans about all the stickers. I get the point. If you take the time and work them they come off easy enough. Also think WD-40. It works wonders on those gummy things. Old school trick for removing price stickers.
Yes it is easy to remove but it is silly to put them on just incase the Walmart or Lowes fella grabs one for the show model. Put the stickers in the bag with the manual or use the magnet kind! Again thanks for watching!!
I watched this before buying my Laredo. I went a bit anal by doing an hour at 200°, then 30 minutes each increasing 50° until 350°. Had a couple of cooks on it and no issues so far (knock wood)!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ I run mines at 180 for a few hours before I turn it up when I’m smoking meats. Salmon or fish I do 30 min on 180 then I crank it to 225. Great smoke flavor.
Ya know the crazy thing is your actually paying a bit more ( ok just a few cents more) so they can have someone mess up your new cooker with those damm stickers. It's like your paying someone to vandalize your property so they can advertise something you have already purchased ( as if seeing the decals will encourage you to immediately go out and purchase a second one?) Proof that it's a crazy world. Here's a idea. They should make the decals at least easier to come off but also be some kind of coupon for a case of beer discount for all the additional effort you had to deal with the damm stickers. I know, not going to happen but it's a happy thought anyway. Sooooo keep your stick on the ice and have a great day. ( yeah I'm a fan of the old Red Green show.) 😁👍🌤🏒🍻
HAhahaha so true Victor!!! I just hate stickers on these box store pits!!! Half of them on this one were magnets and that was super slick but the other half well you can see I didn't have any goo be gone so I cleaned it up the best I could!! I want the free beer also!!! hahahaha Thanks for watching Victor!!!! Hope you are doing great brother!
