Not a problem. Put Bull did me a big solid by even making them in the first place so I wanted to let anyone else with a VF know they exist now.

Yea I'm pretty thrilled. Saw George from Pitbull interacting with someone about TRS Pins on the 13X forums and shot my shot. We probably went back and forth 20x by email to try and get it right, and it was just an overall good experience. Totally different from most interactions I've had with companies. I'm really impressed with them.

Great vid. I just happened to buy my own VF500f. Currently it doesn’t run and the seller said it ran well until it ran out of gas. Now it will only bark off if you fill the carbs with gas. The bike looks complete and it’s was only $450 so I’m not taking a big risk but I would love if you had any input at where the best place to start is. From watching your vids I’m theorizing that the problem may involve the carbs not being synchronized or the petcock which I’m not sure if it’s vacuum controlled yet.

Best place to start is to find out if you have something running and worth spending money on. Unfortunately, you've already pinned the #1 place to start--the carburetors. I say unfortunately only because they're a bit annoying and more importantly involve some money and research. I would expect to have to go through any carburetors on a bike that's sat with fuel in it for ~3 years or so. The rubber that's likely to need to be replaced is the float bowl seals, air/fuel mixture screw o-ring, and the intake boots (insulators). If you're luck you won't actually have to split the rack to replace the fuel rail o-rings. Let's pretend that you're lucky and it was actually just bad gas working it's way through and it actually runs fine. Every VF/R I've seen from this period has had a defective clutch slave cylinder seal. Once you know you're planning to keep the bike and put some time into it, I'd buy a K&L clutch slave rebuild kit. It's a relatively simple procedure (comparatively), and it'll resolve what I think are one of the bike's ticking time bombs. Congrats on the new bike!

@@matttriestodothings Thanks for the info! I’ll be sure to rebuild the clutch slave cylinder seal once I confirm the bike runs. I’m going to start at the tank and work my way to the carbs. If the petcock isn’t working then I’ll test the bike by running it off a gas can outside the bike. Hopefully I get good results and the fix is just a tank cleaning and a petcock that needs rebuild/converting from vacuum to manual.

Maybe I missed it but what tires are you using?

These are Bridgestone BT45s. 100/90-16 front, and a 120/80-18 rear. The 120/80 was highly recommended to me by someone that used to race as opposed to the 110 that the manual calls for.

@@matttriestodothings I used to use Metzlers, comp k me33 at the front, me55 back. Mid 90s it was either those or Dunlop 591s. It's amazing the things you remember after 30 years lol

@@mikeyjay1970 I had the Metzeler lasertec (sp) on here when I bought it. They do still make them but supply seemed limited and the price was way more than the bt45/46 when I'd been looking. And the Bridgestone seemed to be the most recommended anyway besides some Avons that are pretty much unobtanium at this point.
