Pitbull Audio Gear Spotlight: The Boomerang lll Phrase Sampler and Alex Kova Interview 

I've owned a Boomerang 3 forever. (and the Boomerang+ for even longer) I think I might have the 6th Boomerang 3 ever produced. (Beta firmware .36) These pedals are bulletproof. Mike Nelson did great work with the company and I'm so happy to see Alex continue the legacy. I'm running 2 Boomerang 3's with a SideCar and a BeatBuddy. The trick is the independent recording channels for the L/R and the sync between the 2 Boomerangs. I run a guitar in the L channel on Rang 1, vocal loops on the R channel. I have it paired with the 2nd Boomerang and have the L channel running an independent bass, and the R channel with a Roland SPDS drum pad. And then I have both Boomerangs MIDI synced with my BeatBuddy (with MIDI kill switch) running through the SideCar. And then I have a small stand mounted Yamaha MG10/2 mixer board running the mix. The ONLY pedal solution that could do this is the Boomerang. Period. The wholly roller is a killer pedal too. I don't use mine with the 'rang, but rather with my TimeLine... and that is where the wholly roller really shines. You know that half cocked-wah sound? That's what the wholly roller can do for your expression pedal pedals, and its easy to dial/roll in! (Much easier than trying to lift your foot off a partial cocked pedal) I use it with the Timeline to glide in the ICE effects and feedback and repeats.... its very precise. The Boomerang is meant for the live performance. There is something magic about building a song right before your audience. The Boomerang is seamless. I honestly feel naked when I don't have a 'Rang at my feet. I need a Boomerang like I need my amp like I need my guitar. Its all one unit.

Four years later, gotta wonder if we’re ever seeing those USB/SD/memory features. I think it’s okay if they never materialize tbh, because it would require a whole new unit, and I love my Boomerang III!

Since you have the midi sync working so well now, how about an enhancement to chain to of these units together for up to 8 tracks?

Does this version still do the speeded up (double speed) playback when you record at half speed?

Where can you get those silver switches for the boomerang?

I was about to buy it, but I didn't for a reason. If I record a loop, when I record the second loop on top of the first it forces me to start it in the strong part, that is, I can't record a second loop that starts before the first bar.

Before on this pedal was written on the rear: "Made in Texas" now its written "Designed in Texas" I wonder if this means that is no longer made in the USA?

Suggestion: The option to send midi clock from the Boomerang some day?

I would definitely pull the trigger on the boomerang if it had 5 tracks and some basic loop track memory with loop save and load function. Just seems like that’s were we are with premium looper products in 2022. Also, merge the sidecar with the main product in a way that slightly increases the length of the pedal. That just seems to make sense to have the full functionality in one product without taking up unnecessary floor real estate.

I hope you add a ducker circuit at some point, so I don't need an outboard compressor in my rack

It's a bit of a problem if nobody _knows_ of the product. The first time I even heard of Boomerang loopers was yesterday, when searching for solutions to issues in the new Boss RC-10R looper I just bought. Now it seems that the Boomerang III is pretty much spot-on exactly how I'd like a looper to work. I want free-flowing verse/chorus/bridge song style looping where I am the master timing source myself, everything starts from scratch and is done live, but with a song structure: intro, verse, chorus, bridge... No pre-programmed rigid song structure, and not being a slave of a rhythm machine.
