Wait-wait-wait... Diesel voiced the Iron Giant?! That is so cool!

I saw this movie in theates, in its first week. It totally flew under the radar. I am a big fan of the Iconic Keith David. Mr David never chooses a bad script, and he didn't disappoint in this film. A MUST have for any Sci Fi fan....Brilliant Movie, well written! I wonder what the planet was like when the creatures whose large bones they found, were alive.

My favorite part of this movie is the amazing color scheme. For the first third or so of the film, everything is bright blue because of the configuration of two of the three Suns above the horizon. And then everything switches as one Sun rises and another sets before the eclipse which plunges the whole planet into blackness. David Twohy's other Riddick movie is like that, too. Where the characters have to avoid the harsh environment of the Planet they're on along with all the other established dangers in the narrative. It's actually quite brilliant. The planet has three suns and you definitely feel that all throughout the movie. It's hot and oppressive and you almost feel dry-mouthed and dehydrated just watching it lol the environment is almost as much a character as the cast. It's one of the more thoughtful science fiction stories in recent decades. Because it's such a well thought out concept.

Riddik is the best character Diesel has played. Good movie

Vin Diesel put in the work, the story of his climb in movies is incredible.

Wait wait wait. Keith david is LEGENDARY. Keith david was fighting aliens with Roddy piper while vin diesel was breakdancing in madonna videos. Legendary vin diesel indeed!

I loved this franchise. I hope they can make another movie, or even a video game, and expand the Necromonger and Underverse. The video games were amazing too.. Butcher Bay and Dark Athena.

I love the concept of Riddick. I'd like to see more films from it.

Really admire his dedication to the story. The Riddick character has so much potential for more than just movies. I feel all the movies left some holes that could be filled in by some sort of series. Either way I can't wait to see the fourth movie hopefully everything goes well we'll get to see Riddick's home furya

Riddik is one of my underated cheesy personnal favorite badass. I mean the dude as a concept is one amongst many but the way he's unique traits were exploited in this movie is really neat. From unknow prisonner to beast lurking in the dark to force for good kinda against his primal will. It's pretty neat.

i remember going to see this movie in the theater's after seeing a trailer for it on tv or before another movie???? and it was like WTF, this is so different and so cool at the same time and kept you on edge cuz you didn't know who was going to make it thru the movie.... and even now it's still worth watching.

BTW: I am curious about your accent, Niyat. To me, it sounds more like a posh British/London accent than Australian or New Zealandic, but a bit of the Aussie lilt comes through here and there. Pitch Blach is a classic masterpiece in the sci-fi survival genre. Vin Dieseil announced RIDDICK FURYA we have been waiting since 2019! this will surely be the end of the Saga of the Chronicles of RIDDICK and Vin Diesel has collaborated for 20 years with David Twohy to interpret his best role.

Sometimes I like to imagine a world where Fry survived the encounter and the future movies become deeper character driven stories. Her character was an interesting antithesis to Riddick by the end of it.

Lost in Space meets Friday The 13th! 😂😂😂

I had a major thing for Claudia Black and was a fan of Farscape so fell in love with Pitch Black. The franchise is one of the few I can remember and still be amazed on how the story changed and got better. Hollyweird is all but bankrupt on morals and imagination now to the point of not watching movies in over a decade. I wish I could relive the 80's up to 2000 when icons were made and not just remakes of comic books.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies--but there's a plot device that always baffled/infuriated me. The creatures' skin literally melts when exposed to light. Who do they carry off at the end? THE LADY HOLDING THE LIGHTS.

Aaaah pitch black!?. Almost forgotten about this gem. It's a classic. It's a great movie. Gonna roll a big joint and watch it tonight 😊

Pitch Black is what I would rate above average but not spectacular but it's so good it does have it's flaws. Namely, a budget problem. However, the characters are well fleshed out. Overall, the story is what motivates this movie so well. The Chronicles of Riddick does something few movies do: it takes the sequel into an entirely new direction that is directly based on the previous film by expanding on its world building. Think Alien to Aliens.

Pitch Black: Sci-fi horror Chronicles of Riddick: Sci-fi action That's quite the genre shift

I really liked Pitch Black when I first saw it as I didn't really know anything about it. The monsters were SUPER scary, some of the best creatures ever. The "mites/isopods" in Cloverfield, are similar and equally as scary since we only see flashes of them.

Pitch Black. The Chronicles of Riddick. Both exceptional films for character, action, and especially story development. Chronicles of Riddick is phenomenal sequel blending past, present, & future for the universe Riddick dwells in. I wish all films took the time to be so intense with such depth of their characters & integral story elements. One can play the DVD versions of Pitch Black & Chronicles over & over, even into 2020, they both still seem timeless & relevant.

We truly need one more badass Riddick film!

It had all the clichés and beats yet the indie feel, bleak colors, terrific pacing and hard working performers elevated it to greatness. Take any one ingredient out of this movie and you have straight-to-video or SyFy channel dreck.

One of the most underrated Space/Sci-Fi movies

Haven't seen this in years, it needs a rewatch.

Lovely, This is a movie that sit's on my watched frequently shelf, It's got so many choice Actors, Like Claudia Black "Aeryn Sun" from Farscape. Not to mention how well Vin Diesel pulls-off his roll as Riddick. Just a great film. The ultimate soft hearted Bad A*S with reflective eyes, That you don't want to see in a dark shadowy ally.

I rented this out and took the night off work with no regrets 🙂

Interesting fact: the scene where Riddick escapes his bonds by dislocating his arms? Apparently vin diesel actually did the stunt himself! He's double jointed and hypermobile in his shoulders and arms. The thing was, they had a second pair of shackles made, and they pulled his wrists tighter in, so he couldn't complete the full rotation, so they used most of the footage from the first set of looser shackles where he did the stunt. You hear them talk about it in the commentary in the original dvd release.

This is the only channel in which I have notifications on. Hahahahah

Keith David is more legendary than Vin Diesel

Incase anyone did not play the video games escape from butcher bay and assault on dark Athena or watch the cartoon movie Dark furry, I Highly recommend those if you wanna get the most out of the Riddick franchise. Not only are both games incredibly fun and painfully underrated, they have descent graphics even to this day. Dark furry is a short film that takes place during the events of the first and second films, I praise its art style and creativity. The same can be said for the video games, both take places before the events of the first film.

Remember when they made a sequel for this movie? Edit: i mean the animation movie that took place after pitch plack

There was nothing in Pitch Black about Riddick being a super-powered "Furyon." Part of the reason his character in this movie was so interesting was because he was a strong, resolute, slightly amoral human, albeit with augmented vision.

If you take the Riddick character standalone, just as portrayed in Pitch Black, he's not some mild superhuman that is always steps ahead and laying plans within plans like a Bene Gesserit, he's just someone whos been beaten down by life and become stronger by adversity in order to survive. A nobody left in a gutter at birth who through perseverance has developed into a very formidable individual, but not a chosen one ordained through prophecy to overcome all before him. In the original draft of the shooting script he was supposed to die and the co pilot survive, he wasn't anyone special. And neither was the struggle, this wasn't fate of the universe stuff, just people trying to survive. So in effect all the Furian references are out of place as Riddick is just a mean tough bastard in the first film, not a male Mary Sue guaranteed to win. And I think he's more interesting because of that and in some ways his character was lessened by making him a semi Divine Übermensch. The Chronicles of Riddick could have been written to keep him just a man, scale down the power of the Necromongers just a bit and make Riddick less omniscient. The struggle is more desperate, he's less smug, and the outcome appears more in doubt. As the following films have unfortunately devolved into watch him not just draw the winning hand, but stack the deck.

How awesome would it be to see Ripley and Riddick team up in something. Maybe if David got a shot to direct Alien 3, that would’ve happened.

I think I watched this movie like 6 times a year as a child. It was my favourite movie!!!!

I wish we'd seen more films with Cole Hauser in them, after this and The Cave, we never really got anything else good.

They need to make a fourth movie it's left on a cliffhanger

It was so much better seeing this in the theater when it came out. Too bad theaters don't show a Riddick marathon nowadays.

Though it was CGI'd in the movie because the type of restraints made it too difficult, Diesel actually could rotate his bound arms from back to front, probably dislocating his shoulders to some extent along the way. No Fyurian physiology here, just a tough human with painful experience, as he should have stayed.

Riddik is one of the BEST characters ever put to film.

Pitch Black (2000) was a great Sci-Fi & Horror movie. I only wish I could un-see it and re-watch it anew again.

Actually Jones painkillers were his own, he hid them in shotgun shells, the ships painkillers were destroyed when the back of the cabin ripped off.

I loved this movie, but the almost complete tonal shift between it and the chronicles of Riddick left me confused and rather cold.

I really loved the cast, fresh talents obviously have their own charm, it gets boring to see the same actor over and over again as lead role, regardless of their talent.

I love your breakdown the movie, it was very entertaining. The only problem I found was Johns and the morphine. He didn't horde the meds from the ship, it was his own morphine, he was an addict.

I've always wondered about the ending of this movie. She goes back to save him but I think he sacrificed her... jsut by what he said to her before she was carried away. "But not for me!" Sounded to me like he gave her up right then.

I have a theory about Johns’ plan to kill the girl and use her for bait. Maybe Johns was so bent out of shape over the group trusting Riddick despite his warnings that he is a killer and will not help them escape, and will only look out for himself. Based on this assumption, proven wrong by Riddick leaving Johns to die alone in total darkness, because of his suggestion to kill her. Johns devised a quick plan to get the group to trust him again, after their learning of him posing as a police officer. To convince a, supposedly, cold blooded killer to appear to murder someone for his own sake, and shoot Riddick. But Riddick, was not as cold blooded as Johns thought he was and subsequently left him to die for planning to murder a young girl.

Riddick was better as a side character rather than the main focus.

Vin Diesel is a phenomenal human.

I love the character of Riddick. He's Wolverine, but simultaniously less powerful and more badass.

This was a great movie and the squeal was amazing... sadly the new one was not as good and was just a re-tread of the first movie when all fans wanted was more of what we got in Chronicles.
