Great video, just what I needed . As I said the other day I've just got one and just been practising pitching. What I've done to help is on the back tab I've added a little peace of like green dyneema so I can identify it and on the front door tab I've replaced the yellow with a peace of blue I had over from my HMG Ultamid so I can identify front. Am new to TS and it just helps me pitch it easier. I have struggled getting the middle inbetween pain pegging points low to the ground though.

The middle tie out points do sometimes pitch higher than main pegging points. Whilst the hems are all straight not curves it's like in pitching a curve appears that isn't there lol. If you go back to the beginning of My videos long ago you'll see been using these a long arse time lol small gaps really are not a problem welcome them. Sleep system keeps you cosy with a hooded jacket etc. One thing to note i notice lots of people do try to pitch these so close to ground which is fine if preferred but the down wind edge side maybe of door esp if not too windy and even in a breeze I don't worry I let that be higher for air flow and extra space under neither. Good luck happy camping. There tons on here re pitching ts and hopefully it helps. Shout if ever stuck.

D’oh! Why didn’t I think of that. Putting a different coloured cord on the back pegging point. All these years of getting it wrong. Now, I just need advice on how to stop myself from pitching it upside down.
@TonyHobbs

Yup I've pegged out rear corners only to then note upside down 😆

Good reminder to practice pitching in rough conditions since I'm looking at iceland/norway/patagonia for future trips.

Yes so often we pitch in good weather or see videos in a sheltered park pitching it's nice to see the raw deal in wind with struggles and tribulations of pitching not all roses and glitter 😀 I tried to keep the editing tight but loose enough you see bits blow away or pole drops or wind flapping so much can't get a corner.

Bloody h*ll Tony....eh? As I understand it, from your videos, the Trailstar i quite easy to pitch. How did you pitch the Niak in that wind if you struggled with the Trailstar like that. I would have lost the shelter in the wind and gone home....😉 Thanks for the upload.

I think from memory I pitched niak previous day but yeah it was windy then as I think this the trip I sealed ts but not sure.... if it's new silpoly ts... bloody mindedness probably got niak up 😆

Good recovery Tony, I’d love to see a full low pitch for high winds. Do MLD do a complete or ½ groundsheet
@TonyHobbs

Half it goes one side of pole. One in many ie every video with ts when bivy or inner not used. Thank you 😊

How does the new silpoly feel Tony? Any stretch in it or does it behave more like cuben?
@TonyHobbs
@TonyHobbs Год назад
That is the thing Very little stretch but definitely not zero like cuben I can't get a low door with cuben ts yet this easy. I guess higher ok just not tried yet due to wind lol Initial impressions seems good. If anyone has previous ts imo is excellent in nylon and no need to rush for this. I guess if these hold less water and sag less but didn't notice much sag in last. But it was pretty new maybe as gets older it might sag more. Nylon. But really unless really want.... or don't have at all lol

Maybe a felt pen marking F for front and B for back; I’d prefer a fig 8 knot for security of the lines once they’re through the line locks, and keep the side and rear guy lines short as practicable
@TonyHobbs
@TonyHobbs Год назад
Trouble with short lines side and back it completely limits pitching possibilities esp if ground rough and need longer line or if want higher then longer lines better for good pitch and sides off ground a bit. I don't pitch mine to ground unless have to. Not sure figure if 8 knot. I like lines free then if a "door'" needs moving can do quickly and easily. It's pretty easy to find back and have used a black guy line before now. I have a few videos on pitching these you might be interested in watching. Had my first plus associated video on pitching these ten years odd ago. How time flies.

@@TonyHobbs pitching possibilities at 35mph+ gusts are somewhat limited imv, limited to keeping as low a profile as possible, and with the ‘tail’ straight into the wind. Should the wind decide to change direction, pulling the front and side pegs and reorientation the rear of the tarp to again face the wind direction would be my preference, but I’d probably choose a different shelter if I knew in advance that the wind was going to be very strong and/or blustery. Otherwise, location, location, location!
@TonyHobbs
@TonyHobbs Год назад
Absolutely and I probably have a video on moving door somewhere plus one on what happens when don't 😆
@paddymalley8077
@paddymalley8077 Год назад
I have loop knots on both ends of the lineloks ... you can tell which end is the peg one cos its dirty. The biggest pain with lines in the wind is that the lines can get all tangled up as you get it out of the bag as the wind blows it about!
@TonyHobbs
@TonyHobbs Год назад
Yes I've had many a spaghetti tangled clump of lines. I've never had this where all the lines literally shaken out the line locks. I have some black original line from MLD I have used that before on a back line so I know which is back. Tbh it's not difficult and find front pull towards you and back is there so not an issue. Thanks for watching and posting comment great to see you regularly in comments 😀
