One of the advantages of having a solid body electric instrument is that they don't make a lot of sound. This allows us to use electronic pitch shifting. Why would we do this? There are a number of reasons, several of which we'll discuss in this video.

Just used my Pitch Fork last Sunday to play some crazy stuff in Eb! It's reassuring to hear someone say it's not "cheating," because it's SO easy to play those tricky keys with a shifter!

Ive been carrying 2, 5 string fiddles around for a while. One standard tuned and the other 1/2 stepped. Wish I would have seen this a couple years ago, would have saved me A LOT of money by just getting the Digitech Drop!! Now I can go back to my second fiddle tune to D,A,E,A,E!!! But yes I still play an acoustic/electric and Im going to have to learn the traditional ways sometime. Lol.

Do these only work with certain violins? I bought a pitch fork for use with my electric violin and acoustic violin both with piezo pickups. They sound dreadful, like playing underwater.

I wouldn't use a pitch shifter with an acoustic. That would be awful.

Any recommendations for how to practice with a pitch shifter at home? I don't hear much of the strings directly when I practice with a band, but when I'm at home, I can still hear my violin (NXTa) on top of my amp (Katana 50). It was quite painful practicing while the amp was producing sound at 1/2 step down along with what I was hearing under my ear 😵

@ElectricViolinShop LOL! And here I was trying to avoid bothering my parents and neighbors and having to wear earplugs 😅 it definitely sounded better with the amp at a higher volume, and I'm glad to find out the decibals aren't as high as I thought it would've been. Thanks!
