Nothing To See Here by the same author was my favorite book of the year! I'm definitely going to read this too, don't remember seeing it on goodreads. I find it really cool that he comes up with these absurd scenarios and manages to make them feel "normal" and to make ppl involved feel accepted and loved for the way they are. I wish we treated differences the same way irl.

Ah! So you understand me! I'm so glad you liked Nothing To See Here -- that's definitely the one book I've heard the most ppl talk about. I think you're going to love the absurdity of The Family Fang, at least I hope so! Please give me an update when you read it :D

@@my0.25lifecrisis Don't be nervous. I'm sure I'll find it interesting. And I'll read it as soon as it comes in. I love the Anne Rice books I've been reading, but I could use a break in the middle of the Mayfair Witches series.

Well, after writing a long, drawn out history of why this book was so powerful to me and then have RU-vid crash right when I posted it, I'm going to take that as some sign from the universe not to overshare. Or that RU-vid needs to do some work on all of their unstable web pages that constantly crash due to too many ads, etc. Anyway... I'll just hit the high spots. I come from a family of musicians and I was really pushed into singing at a young age and when the chance arose, I just quit. It seemed like everyone was making my choices in life for me, so I chose the best way to take agency in my life was to just choose to do nothing. But at some point, one has to leave the past behind and move forward. Also, the ending really drew me in. This reminded me a lot of my father. At times, I felt I probably vilified him too much in my head. I thought that maybe I exaggerated to myself how much more time he spent with his music than his family. But I look back, and I realize that, while he did love us, the music truly was the first thing in his life. He's passed now. But he's been on my mind a lot lately. But I think reading this might have finally made me take a close look back and see that good people can get caught up in a facet of their life that leaves the ones they love out of it. Not my fault and I can move on. I said it probably more eloquently the first time, but I got it down now. Going to save to make sure RU-vid doesn't crash again... Oh, and before I go, let me say I actually LOVED the book! It's written in a manner that it gets you from the word go and keeps you intrigued throughout. The first half where you just see the bizarre goings-on of the characters is fun. And once you know them, the last half is must-read. I felt just as confused as the characters. I would go from one possibility to the next in my mine and they all seemed equally plausible. It's funny, tragic, weird...Would probably make a really great movie if you could get a director who could stick to the script. But it's fine as a book. I was taking my time, taking it all in, reading a chapter or two a day. But at the end, I had to tear through and see what the heck was happening! It's a great read that is really easy to get into. And what seems weird at the first will seem normal by the end. Thank you SO much for the recommendation! It was nice to get an awesome read and even more nice to maybe get some closure in part of my life that I definitely need to move on from! As someone once said, don't lose your future living in your past.

Thank you so much for sharing as much as you did. Love that RU-vid is unintentionally looking out for you. The internet can be a scary place to be vulnerable. (I'm sorry it so long to reply -- just b/w moving back to the states and adjusting to life stuff, it was a litle overwhelming). I'm glad to know this book resonates w/ other people. It's so different from other stories I've read, and w/ uniquely flawed characters. Fun fact -- the book WAS made into a movie. Although I get the sense that it wasn't adapted well, which is a shame.

@@kellyseeksbooks that honestly sounds like it could be in a line from a Kevin Wilson novel lol
