Pititico QRP CW transceiver designed for the 40m band. One of the smallest CW transceivers designed around one 2N2222 transistor by ‪@py2ohh‬ This was the first one I built trying to stay close to the original schematic.
Latest update: I ended up changing the circuit a little for easier adjustment of the TX/RX offset frequency, to remove the AM broadcast band interferences and improve the low pass filter. Check the blog article for details and the latest schematic and PCB board design.

DX Explorer is a channel with amateur radio related videos on: schematics, reviews, homebrewing and much more.
I am passionate about amateur radio since childhood. I got back into the hobby in 2016, while living aboard my sailboat. I received my license in 2022. I like QRP mostly, experimenting with all modes. But I am old school, so I prefer SSB or CW.

Hello Ciprian, and happy new year to you. I enjoy your videos and projects and I especially liked this project so I built your version of this last night. The RX works as expected but as you discussed, my TX is heating up and shifting frequency after a second or two of key down. Having seen your success, I will continue to work on mine until I can get it to work. I will make it a point to report my findings and experiments to you. Thank you for sharing your projects with the community and 72's de N9AK...

Happy New Year Mark... and thank you. I'm glad you like the videos. Today I was lucky and the propagation was great so I had amazing reception on the little guy. I will somehow insert a short clip in the next video. About the transistor heating... you did used a dummy load right ? )) And yes it does get a little hot... especially on 12v with 1W output power. Check the transistor and if you can measure the Hfe over 450 and the Uf around 650 or over. I tested a lot of 2N2222 transistors and the Chinese ones are with an Hfe less than 250 most of the time. Those seem to be unstable and overheat excessively. I hope you get it figured out. I still can't believe mine works so well. Now I just have to build a little amplifier for it so I can use regular headphones. 73 my friend and let me know how things work out for you.

Eu também adoro haha. Até o nome o torna fofo. Quero construir versões para todas as bandas de 80m a 10m e ter uma de cada. Mas o Pititico II que fiz para incluir o amplificador de áudio não é mais tão pequeno. Ainda é divertido construí-lo e colocá-lo no ar. 73, YO6DXE.

Найди пьезокерамический кварц в виде капли из пластика, они есть в старых цветных телевизорах на 3.580 кГц он в последовательном подключении с переменным конденсатором даст возможность перестраивать частоту во всем cw диапазоне. Удачи!

Ohhhh it would be nice. Sadly because the schematic is so simple, it's a little complicated as soon as I try to change the frequency. The offset frequency would be a mess and it will need constant adjustments. But that is a good idea for a little more complicated schematics where the oscillator and offset frequency are more stable. Thank you my friend. 73, YO6DXE.

Great simple circuit. A capacitor across the headphone jack will remove some of the unwanted high-frequency audio.

I love these simple circuits too. Ohh yes that is a great idea... the capacitor I mean. I didn't tried it as I removed the high frequencies in the external amplifier I'm using 😁

I would like to see the entire process of the project from creating the enclosure to installation. This is really nice. I'm wondering if the same circuit could be applied with a transistor like 2N2219 or BD135. I doubt BD135 would be good for receive
@dxexplorer

2N2219 and BD139 work pretty well. Unfortunately for the entire process I have very little time now. Maybe a little later in the autumn time.

So "transceiver" here is used as a synonym of "transmitter" and not of "transmitter + receiver". Correct?
@dxexplorer
@dxexplorer Год назад
No... is an actual transceiver as transmitter + receiver. But have a look at my latest videos as I have a new version.

@dxexplorer
@dxexplorer 10 месяцев назад
Have a look at the latest video... or the article on the blog on Pititico II. It also has the LM386 audio amplifier included so you can use regular headphones. The range.. it depends on the propagation. With 700mW you can sure make QSO's all over Europe in a good day... or no QSO at all if the propagation is not good )). 73, YO6DXE.

Hello, how do you use/configure/connect that wattmeter to be able to measure the power output of your radio emitter. Thanks
@dxexplorer
@dxexplorer 6 дней назад
This is the one that I am using: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A_l51lLlydI.htmlsi=DAArgzWHKqEYKOpg But because it already has a 50 Ohm dummy load included, I don't really do much but just to connect it to the output of the transmitter or transceiver and measure the power output. Let me know if you would like to know some particular detail. 73, YO6DXE

Hii is there any way to replace crystal with VFO?
@dxexplorer
@dxexplorer 11 месяцев назад
I thought so too... but I think the VFO has to be a good one. The circuit is really simple so it will may pull the VFO frequency really easy when transmitting. But then it would be no more simplicity in the circuit ))). I am trying to work on something else that also includes a VFO... but it will take me a little as I don't have so much free time.

Can i use 7 mhz crystal to 8 mhz crystal ?
@dxexplorer
@dxexplorer Год назад
What do you mean 7MHz to 8MHz ? Like any frequency between 7 to 8 ? 8MHz is no longer into the amateur radio bands so is illegal. The Pi Filter on the input is normally adjusted to be used for the CW portion of the 40m band ( 7MHz )... so usually you would use a crystal more common for the QRP calling frequency something like 7.030MHz. I hope that was the question )))
