Years ago when my 58-year-old son was about 13 a fellow worker who lived about 2 miles away offered him $50 to mow about 3 acres of tall grass. So he went over there with the IH 300 and the 6' real Bush Hog and started mowing it. About in the middle he mowed over an opening to a ground hornet nest. He got away from them and called home. So I went over there, accessed the problem, ran out about 30' of Oxy/Acetylene hose, got the rosebud torch going perfectly, and knocked the flame out. Then I stuck the tip down in the hornet hole. I let the gas run for about 5 minutes and ran up and pulled the torch out. Then from a distance, I lit a heavy rag ball that was soaked in diesel and threw it at the hold. OMG, the ground jumped about 10' in all directions. No more problems with the hornets. The boy got his $50, and we had a great man experience of blowing up something. Wasps are able to "Smell when someone is afraid and running away". I do not fear them and can put on my welding glove, grab their nest, and throw it away except for one time when I reached up behind the dash of the JD A and right into a nest. One stung me on the back of my hand and hit directly on one of the big veins. My Darling Bride called the ambulance, and they administered an Epi Pin on the way to the hospital. The epinephrine did the trick and came home the same day after the normal laying in the ER bed for 4 hours. I am still not afraid of them.

I hate it when people try to bully you into selling stuff. I sold something on marketplace, and the guy asked if I had any boomers for sale. I said no, and then he saw one in the shed and started giving me a hard time because I wouldn't sell it. I finally told him I have it because I use it. I don't know what's wrong with some people

nice video Ross. Good to hear the animals are all doing good. Those flying creatures sure can be a pain in the butt or anyplace they bite. Great that you saved all those parts from the scrap man and nice to see you got the mower going again. Thank you for sharing.

Ross needs a 50 foot by 150 foot pole barn just to hold the parts he keeps dragging in. Thanks for sharing

So what you're saying is finders keepers on the parts! I don't blame you, that's what I would do too. Yeah, those pitman arms can be a pain in the Kenutson, as you would say. I guess that's how you spell it, but you know what I'm saying. Enjoyed the video, and hey, I didn't fall asleep, hee hee!😂 Thanks for the fun, I hope you have a nice afternoon.

I feel your pain on the Pittman arms. I have 2 sickle bar mowers - an old New Idea (sounds ironic) and a mounted IH mower for the Farmall C. Over the years, I changed the Pittman in both and had my share of challenges.

***hands Ross my piece of paper*** I like your attitude Ross. 🤣🤣🤣 Ross, I always carry with me a can of WD-40 with me when I suspect "flying creatures", it will kill them, same with brake clean. Check under the seat... Where's the other pitman? Always use that as your template to make a new one. I've made plenty of these for our old JD #5 sickle bar mower. And, yes, length needs to be precise. A 2X4 would work for ya. The sickle bar is easy to fix Ross, just drop that section off and hammer it back, it's super mild steel. You could probably bend it back by hand, it's that soft. For that slot, I've learned, take a circular saw and do a quick run into it, wood swells... just be careful to not split the pitman... don't ask me how I know that. 🤣🤣🤣 I would suggest to change those nut and bolts and use "nylock nuts". If the township doesn't mow our road, I usually go out with my JD E12 12' batwing mower, yea sucks gotta do the job of our township because they're too lazy yet want to raise our taxes to pay for "road repairs" that they never do. LOL As always, great video, cheers :)

Ross , You have a 502 number which I think Ford had a sickle mower that was a 502 model.
@danielkaiser7245
@danielkaiser7245 День назад
The 502 322 ES is the pitman for the 82 mower according to my parts book. I am not sure what other models. My 415 pull type mower parts book lists something different. Do you know the part number for your 356? I don't have a parts book and I am curious if you ever figured out what the exact part number is you needed. I am thinking of ordering the W20HSA for my 82 to see it will fit as my pitman is shot.

I was at an auction where they had a few pitmanless oliver mowers but they were all a bunch of sadness that you would have had to buy them all to make one good one and I didn't have it in me that day to mess with it.

Hey Mr Ross I just got an Oliver 5540 pipe plow. 4 bottom. Moldboards are so worn out, and I just broke a point. Where's the best place to get iron for it? It's a 16" bottom plow. Thanks!

Did Oliver ever make a sickle mower with a wobble box instead of a pitman stick? If they did, I’m surprised you don’t have one.

Ross, you're going to have to have some kids! Probably about a dozen, just to sort out the estate when you pass. I'm in a similar boat and about 20 years older, wonder some-days what's going to happen with all this treasure when I'm gone?
