Curious about modular synthesis, electronic music, and sound design, but unsure how to get started? I have something for you! Join my free "intro to synthesis" mini course here: www.soundandsynthesis.com/firstpatch2022 PS: You don't need any special gear to do this-just a computer with VCV Rack (which is free to download).
I think I've watched every video out there about this synth, but this is the one that finally made me buy it. This is such a great deep-dive exploration and explanation of what it's all about, and the whole video is great, but my favorite parts by far were when you showed how far you can push it into really wild and unruly experimental territory
There were 3 videos about this synth in my subscription feed; I watched yours third, and this is the one that really got me interested. You're a master at getting the craziest extreme sounds from ay device. Well done! Thank you
Hoorayy! Finally a demo that doesn’t act like it’s a Minimoog! Fantastic, you’re really showing the character of this instrument in a way I haven’t seen other videos do.
So much fun watching this one ! Just got my Taiga Tiger 3 days ago, and reproduced your patches and exploring this new synth, learned a lot tonight, thanks so much, Sarah ! 🙌
As an experimental electronics player, your channel is the only one that is musically interesting to me, besides your nice, calm, non-dudebro way of presentation. 🎶🧿
As always, it is an absolute pleasure to listen to Sarah as she calmly breaks down synthesizers into their component parts and pushes them to their limits. I can also highly recommend her course.
Very helpful, particularly using the Taiga's own OSC outputs as feedback loops as opposed to just the LFO/ADSRs or external CVs. Helped me finally "bond" with Taiga which I hadn't quite done yet, nicely done. Thanks.
Thanks an M! This vid explains elements of Taigo so well, and unlocks vast possibilities for Taiga fun and sound design, which are really astounding. The weirdness possible with this brings me such joy!
First of all. I saw 3 vids on this synth this morning. Now it's late in the evening and you're the only one that makes a demo of the Taiga with some in depth interesting examples. After seeing this vid, the Taiga went from lower prio "wishlist", to top 3. Superb demonstration! Thank you! Subscribed!
Thank you Sarah, very useful information and fun to listen to you and the fact that you like to experiment with sounds and not just the same old stuff. Thans again, great work!
I got a Taiga as soon it was available and still exploring what it can do. The most exciting new synth for a while. Very interesting video too. Thanks.
Fantastic video. Close to buying a Taiga after a modular set-up rethink. Ousting a few modules, and probably my Kilpatrick Phenol, In favor of the semi-modular Taiga. I'll keep the modules that will compliment and add to what the Taiga has. I'll be able to get sounds right off the bat without necessarily having to patch. But have the flexibility to patch to take things further. I think this set-up will give me a little more immediacy and better focus. My modular journey has been a bit all over the place so far. I've bought modules largely on impulse. I've grown beyond the Phenol a little and patching the bread & butter stuff has become a bit tedious. Time to change things up a bit ;-)
You mentioned that most synths that you’ve used that have a wave folder only have one. Hydrasynth’s ASM-PWM is basically a wave folder. So if you think of it that way you have 4 available across 2 oscillators. Though it doesn’t sound quite as juicy as this analog goodness does.
I would have worked harder on my Clarke Technical Studies all those years ago had I thought an instrument extender like this might be in the future. Well done! and thanks for the insights.
I love how nimble your fingers are on the touch plates. If I tried to go that fast on mine, I’d probably “crash” in the knobs! Not many East Coast sounds here; you need another 1/2 hour.
I've got a minibrute 2s and I've been thinking about getting a rackbrute and adding this. No idea about other modules yet but this would definitely be first
Nice one Sarah great video and demo of the taiga 👍😈 only thing is now I may want one 😂 keep up the great videos .. o I will have to sub …… right done that I go check out some more of your video 👍👍👍
thank you for having a clear well lit video, all the other taiga videos have some annoying artistic lighting or soft focus on it and im like the thing is already hard enough to see the labels how is this helpful
That was a really great demo, Sarah. You gave me some really good ideas along with helping me understand the synth much better. It really does seem to be a very versatile machine with tremendous sonic possibilities. I want to see if I can cobble something close to this synth using VCV Rack.
I meeeeeeaaan this looks like totally next level flexibiliy and creative patching compared to Moog's platforms like M32 or Grandmother. In fact one of the main reasons I sold my GM years ago was the fact that it kinda did a few good sounds and any excessive patching just made it sound worse - potential downside of east coast? Anyway I've been thinking about going back to a Matriarch, but honestly it feels like Pittsburgh might replace their place for me. On the edge between Taiga (with makenoise controllers) or the Voltage Lab 2.
Depending on your microphone you can do it either way, but if I recall this went into an interface and then back out to the Taiga. Just watch those levels!
It does the classic sounds very well. You have all the elements here for it. I suggest checking out other demos people have done. That being said, of course it may simply not be to your taste. I just don't think Sarah is the one to demonstrate that sort of thing. It isn't really her specialty.
@@inthefade Yes, I’ve listen to all the other videos. We all know that that is about preferences. I do not think the nasal/tubular sound of the latest PM synths is the best for those “classic” sounds. I much prefer the more open/stringy sound of the Dreadbox synths for that. On the other hand, getting things sounding “experimental” with those boxes appears considerably harder than with this one. I love both makers, regardless.
Hmm, wasn't taken by the Taiga, until this video. But it sounds really unique here. Similar to your Hydrasynth videos, where you really showed what makes it special. Complex sounds by leaning on their strengths: folding, FM, shaping. I'm thinking that Empress Zoia Euroburo could be a great partner / expander for these (even more so for a Moog Grandmother). Because it gives you all that powerful stereo digital processing chain after. But can also add extra modulation, random sources, or even digital oscillators / sub-osc.
Great video - cool sounds! Just a note - Taiga is a native (also used in Russian) word for a type of forest in Siberia/Central Asia. It has nothing to do with tigers and is pronounced Tai-gah (with the stress on the final "a") I'm a native speaker, and have grown up in those regions. I'm surpriesd no one corrected the folks at Pittsburgh... All that aside - it's a very exciting synth and the sounds are fantastic!!
What ?! Still no Sarah Belle Reid’s demo/tuto on the Bastl Softpop SP2 ?! Tell me I’m dreaming ! The fact is that I dream indeed of watching such a video, since yours are (among) the most interesting, exciting, uplifting ones, like this Taiga’s, precisely. Anyway, thank you very much for your previous videos, always charming and inspiring. Oscillating regards.
Out of the box brand new and it’s a stone . Following the quick start everything on their website and all it does nothing but sound like it’s ungrounded . keyboard won’t engage no mater what I do guess it showed up broken . 👽✌️
