I remember when it came out, it was definitely supposed to be the ending. I'm guessing that guy they mentioned in the video got paid a shit load of money so he could tell the animators "WELL, ACTUALLY...", thus another worn out franchise continues.
Yea it was definitely supposed to be the ending, the director Lee Unkrich even said so. It's just Disney PR, they can't have their director going out in public casting doubt on the movie, they still had to address the elephant in the room, but they dismissed it with what is probably a half truth at best.
I never saw the 4th one so in my mind it did end with the 3rd one and I think I might keep it that way it was such a great ending as I was going to school as well as Andy was so it hit different like childhood was really over.

There was no such thing as an “arc”. People are using the word arc just to erase the end of Toy Story so that they can milk more story. You could even say Andy’s journey is Woody’s arc. Those characters are so interconnected that you can’t go on without one of those characters. Imagine Toy Story without Woody then call it “XXX arc”. Yeah no don’t wanna think about it

Tbf. What would've been really nice would've been a 1:1 recreation of the first movie with the new Animation. They do it with video games all the time so why not animated films? Can you imagine how good that would've looked?

Toy Story 3 was as much about Andy moving on as it was about Woody moving on. They completed both characters stories, which makes sense as they're very important to each other.
I definitely felt like Woody’s story was complete with the third one, plus at least there he got to stay with his friends, the fourth ending is so sad it makes me wanna cry every time. I have absolutely no idea what the fifth movie could add, and it feels like a part of my childhood is being crushed because Disney just wants the money lol

Unfortunately, Toy Story 4 ending kind of weird as well. Bonnie loved Woody, and he promised Andy to take care of him. Woody definitely knew this as well. But he decided to ditch without thinking of what would Bonnie's thought when she lost Woody. I seriously wonder how they were going to continue for that.
Well I think the idea was that Bonnie got over him. She stopped playing with him. He started getting left in the closet while everyone else was being played with. Whether that’s really true or not, I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t necessarily call him selfish or anything for not thinking about how Bonnie would feel. I think by that point he thought Bonnie didn’t care about him anymore
Yeah, the totally ditched the fundamental values of the loyalty and selflessness of the toys in favor of a quasi-woke message of "I'm bored, ditch everyone and be yo best self" kinda message. I feel bad for the young audience that'll be internalizing that sort of ego-centric logic, whether they realize it or not.
Especially since in the movie she actually did play with Woody. It was only like a 3 second scene, but it proves she didn’t entirely forget him and that kinda ruins the movie.

toy story 4 was about BOTH Andy and Woody and the relationship they shared as a kid’s favorite toy and primary symbol of his childhood as well as a toy’s first real experience bringing joy to a child.
In my personal opinion i do like the 4th, its a fun watch every now and then with some nostalgic feels with the carnival and the antique store that reminds me of when i was a kid, and the animation is nice to look at
Disney is desperate. I think that they’ve lost money on almost every project in the last 5 years. Disney+ is also hemorrhaging unthinkable capital every month. They’ll remake or sequalize anything at this point.
Not only 4 was uneccesary, it makes Bonny's character unlikeable. She is the female version of Andy who plays nice and treats her toys well. The way she ditched Woody is out of character

She would play with every toy except leaving Woody in the closet… the same Woody who despite that went with her to school because he still cared despite getting shafted. My big reason for disliking the fourth movie is because Woody meant a lot to Andy. He was one of if not the only thing he had left of his father since it was implied throughout the movies that Woody was left to him by his father. We don’t know if he is dead or just out of the picture but Woody meant the world to him because of that. To then have a kid that Woody does care about shaft him and made it so Andy couldn’t give Woody to his own children while giving something that meant so much to him to that girl is just disrespectful. By that point I don’t blame Woody and the ending still sucks because they probably didn’t even have that as a motivation for Woody. But the ending is now what ruins it. It’s the fact they basically took a giant dump over some of the characters and story telling that came before.
I am really glad Woody decided to be "free" and Woody chose another life that is not always related making kids happy, something he always did and held onto and thought was the only purpose of physical object toys. But Woody in Toy Story is more than just an object. He had a heart. He found freedom and love. I am sad though he left Buzz, but in the end Woody chose love and Buzz did too with the cowgirl. I wanna see Woody as like a tough survivor toys surviving in wilderness in toys city or toys camp with his gal ❤
You can blame the current generation. Everything has to be visualized for them; no one is being asked to use their imagination anymore. Disney is also just creatively bankrupt. If they actually cared about doing right by their fans, they'd release fewer IPs and focus on coming up with NEW IDEAS that match the quality of what they produced in the past. They've turned into Walter White trying to make the money pile grow as big as possible. They've made more than enough money to keep everyone on their payroll without having to rehash ideas and churn out shit to squeeze dollars.
Just because it was never supposed to be the ending doesn't mean it shouldn't have been the ending. If you're a writer and you accidentally happen across the perfect ending, it is a wise choice to accept it and leave things there, even if that was not your plan to begin with.
Somebody had the idea for what if Gabby Gabby never got her box fixed but The girl who picked her up had a stutter and honestly I think that would have been so impactfully beautiful I really really am skeptical that they really felt that way and they didn't just say that to save face
Honselty, that proves right their how poorly the 4th movie was written. Especially when that feeds into the more modern ideals and attempts a modern day thought provoking concepts these days. Seriously, that's like 10x better and more relatable writing that, in a lot of ways, would have saved face for a lot of the imperfections of this movie. But nah, we got this debatable trash heep where Woody decides its viable to abandon his owner, all his friends, and basically his brother (Buzz). For some thot that he used to know that found a way to justify abandoning one's owner. 1/10 never again #Disneystopruiningchildhoods
Toy Story 3 was the ending we needed, in that those that grew up watching Toy Story, basically born in the 90’s, would have been around the age of Andy in the end. It’s basically a goodbye to childhood for all of those kids. But, it’s also good to create new stories for a new generation. Unfortunately, I don’t know how things will look considering Woody left the gang. And Andy asked Bonnie to take special care of Woody, and now his favorite toy is basically gone forever.
I’ve always though it would’ve been interesting to see woody go to college with Andy like it was initially planed. Like woody could’ve gone on some crazy adventures with other college childhood toys or something or even just more of Andy’s sister as she was a kid and no longer a baby

True. It wasnt necessarily the end of the characters. But it shouldve been the end of the films. They were doing so well after toy story 3 cause after that they just had animated shorts showing their time with Bonnie and how much they enjoy being played by her. Then having short films like Toy Story of Terror where Jessie gets stollen at a Motel and over comes her fear of being thrown away or out in a box. These were good. They shouldve just kept it with the shorts instead of making a fourth film that completely undoes the third ending “the best thing about woody is that he never gives up on you” unless he finds his ex girlfriend in which case he’ll ditch ya
How did he give up on Bonnie? He risked himself and his friends to save Forky for Bonnie, even when Bo told him to just give up. He knew how much Forky meant to her. Did you also forget how he snuck into her bag when she went to kindergarten to make sure she was okay? Yeah I know he left at the end, but let's not ignore the things that happened in the movie.
I don’t know, the series is really clearly based on parenthood, and when your child becomes independent you don’t just grab someone else’s kid and continue as normal. You have to move on and find some new meaning to your life. I think the fourth movie wasn’t done as well as it could have been, and shouldn’t really have been made at all, but it is the next natural step in Woody’s arc. When you left/will leave your home will you expect your parents to just sit around and wait for you to come back, or adopt a new kid and start over again? Of course not, they need to go and live their lives, find some meaning that’s independent of their adult children and even any grandchildren. Woody seeing that he wasn’t needed in the same way as he was when Andy was little, that Bonnie was looked after, and that his job as a parent was done, decided to find that new meaning with his partner. It’s a message to the parents who watched the series with their children as they grew up and began their own lives. It’s not really for the children who are in their twenties and early thirties now, and it’s not really for the children who are only old enough to start watching the series. Saying that, I don’t think we need a Toy Story 5 where Woody has to come to terms with his impending death and fix up his will
For me was the second actually, as they kept the essence of the first one. Even though the end of the third is a great ending for the story. The fourth is just the third but with new goodbyes.
I mean technically, even before Toy Story 4 they were already continuing the story with all those characters through all those shorts they kept releasing.
It kind of feels weird when Mr. Potato head's voice actor is dead, but they are still releasing more. Thank you, Disney and Pixar, for tarnishing the idea of imagination
@@sprinklebara - Definitely. Jim Varney died in 2000. Blake Clark took up the role of Slinky Dog for Toy Story 3 and has voiced him since. Another Toy Story actor who has died is Estelle Harris (d. 2022), who voiced Mrs. Potato Head.
I understand that but I think part of why they had to was cause I think don rickles signed contracts for TS4 but passed before he could do anything so they had to pay out to his family and use pre recordings of what they had to cover him for the time being now my guess is he will be replaced in TS5 but who knows we'll see
The problem with that is that it felt like Woody’s story was over with 3, too. It was, as everyone else has said, a perfect ending to the series. The only reason they keep making new Toy Story movies is to milk the franchise for every penny it’s worth, and it results in bad movies, lazy storytelling and damage to the brand’s reputation- as well as Pixar’s reputation.
Truth be told I like the concept of the adventure of toys. In my opinion some shows should not be forced to have a complete ending. Monsters Inc should have had more.
They should keep the series going, just do it without Woody. He already has 4 movies that focus on him, so, the writers should just give him a break already. They can keep him as a side character if they want, but, I just don't feel like using him as a protagonist is going to work anymore. There was a good idea for him that I saw in a different video though. Someone decided to make a storyboard where Woody meets Andy in a nursing home, and he finally reveals himself to him. That would've been interesting.
I rewatched all 4 Toy Story movies last month… and it’s so clear that 4 is the worst. It also destroys Buzz as a character… but at least it looks great. I love Ducky & Bunny, too.

Toy Story 3 wrapped things up, nicely. Being abandoned by Andy was a reoccurring fear so it was nice that he gave them a proper home when the time had come for him to move on. It shows the cycle can refresh itself for generations. Nothing more needed to be said, it was a cash grab.
Why would they? A Bug’s Life was heavily overshadowed by all of the other Pixar movies during that time, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to throw money away on it.
Third is and always will be the ending for me. The last shot mirroring the first with the clouds, the last scene of Andy playing with the toys, Woody's "So long...partner." and even the fact that some of the actors have passed away like Don Rickles since the third, there's no reason for any more. Disney just wanted to make a safe sequel and the animators are just covering for themselves. Like I knew as soon as one of the big things about this movie was "THIS one's ending made Tom Hanks cry", I knew they were trying to bait us in.

To be honest I loved Toy Story 4! To me it’s the story about a parent (Woody) trying to find purpose after his initial purpose is complete. He spend so much time with Andy that he doesn’t know what to do anymore and it’s clear that Bonnie is happy without him. And after being reunited with his old friend he realizes that he’s allowed to be happy too and sets off on a new adventure Just like how parents find new meaning in there lives after dedicating all of it to there children
It was also made as closure for what happened to Bo Peep. One of the main story writers felt it unfair how she was dismissed in TS3 and wanted a way to tell her story and tie up the loose ends with her and Woody. It’s a separate story from the main trilogy and that was always what it was meant to be. Go read articles about it from shortly after TS3 first released; they were planning it out for a while.
She was also never a toy. She was a lamp. It would be natural that she and the toys would eventually go different routes because she doesn't have the whole ingrained "this is my child who must be happy" mentality.
The Toy Story series is all about Woody’s Journey as a metaphorical parent learning how to cope as his child becomes more and more independent until he isn’t needed in the same way anymore. 4 makes sense as parents need to find new meaning in their lives after their children are fully independent. Woody leaving is him taking what he loved most in life (looking after his kid) and continuing it in a different way. It’s a really natural end and an aspect of parenthood that is very rarely covered. All other stories like it would have ended with their kid going to university and leaving out the most difficult part, where you have to figure out what’s next when the person you’ve build your life around isn’t there in the same way. I’ve got no clue what Toy Story 5 could be about, Woody’s arc is completely over unless they decide to have him die or something ridiculous. Unless they decide to have it focus entirely on Buzz or one of the others, but poor Buzz hasn’t had anything to do since the second movie!
I went on it by myself and it was one of my worst movie going experience, kids hated it. One family walked out because the kid was sick of it, kids were running around because they were bored. It feels like it was made to make a shitty conclusion to something that already had one and it didnt feel fun for kids compared to the other 3. Some also cried at the creepy doll. Movie was not great
I think it does makes sense to say that the third was the end of Andy's story and that the fourth is the end of woody's story, as Toy story started with woody being there for Andy as part of Andy's story with his favorite toy, the third pretty much wrapped up that story. Now the fourth showed woody's story coming to an end due to the whole thing being started by him, let's which direction they take the fifth movie but I think forkey being asked how toys are alive by the end of the fourth really set something up in my opinion.
Ive been saying this the whole time! Andy gets this perfect send off and the toys are able to move on, continuing to do what toys do... but a core theme of the toy story franchise is that the toys have feelings, and Woody is clearly too attached to the idea that he needs to be with a human in order to be happy, but finally he learns to let go of humans and hold onto those who he really cares about, like the othet toys. Still not the greatest justification for toy story 4, but its a kids movie and it was good enough for me yknow? I got to watch a toy story in theaters with my nephew! He was born AFTER toy story 3. Pretty great experience.
UGH but I felt like the whole point of Toy Story 3 was that you can let go of some things and say goodbye to some people, but not everyone. You can move forward and transition into different parts of your life but that doesn’t always mean abandoning your entire previous life. It’s okay to take some and leave the rest. Andy was moving on to different things and it wasn’t appropriate to keep going with his toys. Woody had to let that part of his life go, but he still had Buzz and his friends. They helped him with that transition into his new life with Bonnie. And then in the 4th movie they say fuck that woody has to leave Buzz😐
I understand Woody would be the main protagonist because it's called "Toy Story" not "Andy's Story" but they keep milking and trying to squeeze out every last sequel they can. I heard that Toy Story 6 might be happening.
Toy Story always had this trope of Woody getting lost, learning a lesson and returning. In the fourth movie they forgot to make him return so they are making another one, also hopefully to fix all the bullcrap storytelling that Toy Story 4 caused

It was always about the toys, yeah. But the third one was a lesson for the toys and for Andy. Well, not really a lesson so much as an “my childhood is officially over”. It’s a great message about how change isn’t always bad. It can be sad, but there is a light after the difficult time. There’s a lot more nuance to Toy Story three than any other installment and that’s why it’s my favorite.
all sequels are unnecessary. its an optional continuation of a story, you dont have to watch or enjoy it if you dont want to. yeah the motive is money, no medium on this scale isn’t, but its still a film that can be enjoyed and if you dont like it, dont watch it. stop dissing disney for things that literally EVERY company that makes a form of entertainment is guilty of.
I actually love this movie, it's my favorite one actually. I saw tons of people making hate comments about this movie, which i quite understand because woody left his friends, but then again, He hasn't seen the love of his life for so many years. And, bonnie doesn't even care about him, he gets stepped on, not getting played with and bonnie didn't even notice him when he disappeared so... I understand and love the ending so much.
