The better question is, how was he even able to climb onto the....staircase thing?i dunno what it's called I'd assume it's VERY likely he'd accidentally slip and die!
I love how they didnt just make them all use balloons for their houses but instead expanded on the idea of making each individual home leave with its own unique and original way. This is why i love early 2010s pixar.
I love the fact that the animation for this is the hand drawn classic style. Because it's about older folks not giving up on their life. OMG Pixar is the best.
I couldn’t stop laughing at all of the unique and creative ways for old people were escaping retirement homes, The crazy cat lady use the cats to pull her house and the lady who knits made a slingshot, everything they did had an association with what kind of old person they were and I absolutely love it
So then the house that floats out of the bay must have belonged to a retired coast guard/life guard or somebody who worked in the Navy. A sailor perhaps. I wonder what products the old man sold after watching him equip the retirement home with those canisters that launch the building into the sky. Also, was that the Underminer’s home drilling a tunnel underground?
There is no end to the sheer delight of bonus features they make for every film, this is an initial design concept and they turn it into a short gag reel of seniors running off with their houses. Genius.
That was nothing short of brilliant. I loved seeing the other elderly citizens due to be taken to a retirement home inspired by Carl's escape. Their own methods of doing it were as creative and funny as Frederickson's. It was also quite interesting to see what became of the two Shady Oaks employees after the liftoff of Carl's house. That van took quite a lot of abuse before The Spirit of Adventure landed on it...
Government: * steals money from the elderly with social security removal * Old people: * do this * The government: NO this isn't how you're suppose to play this game
Tbh this felt like it was just a storyboard idea while they were animating UP, the tend to do alot of the animation before VoiveOver so this could have been people at Pixar cueing in for scenes. This looks like they added more to it and used UP voice clips after the fact and kept the older storyboard voices for this "deleted scene". Nice work though.
This movie should have won the Oscar for Best Picture! If there has been one animated film to erase the misconception that says what movies are "for children" and what movies are "for adults," it is Up! The Academy should stop being afraid of supposedly looking like babies in giving such high acclaim to an animated masterpiece such as this one. Up would have been PERFECT as the first animated film to win Best Picture!
I love how George and A.J. are both flabbergasted about how Carl Fredricksen inspired the elderly to use their houses(and the retirement home) as their very own vehicles
I love the fact that every time something happens, the car alarm allways goes off. this may be one of the funnyest pixar shorts, and it's all done in reals.
I'm really happy for how far Pixar has gotten in the medium of movies, and I'm really overjoyed that UP gets to be the second animated movie in ages to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. As for this short, it's amazing that it managed to tie up certain loose ends that I never even thought about, but I am thrilled that they were explored. All in all, it is my honor to make it my PICK OF THE WEEK video...for this week. :)
If complete chronological collections of all the franchises were to be made possible, the short films and the holiday specials ought to be added in front of every ending. The prequel-like openings can work like a similarity before the next and continuing scenes of the ongoing films and a subplot can show two scenes on the same screen at once. The classic opening titles and Title names can be spared and the modern credits can be on hold until the very end.
