May I ask about battery life? Mine one switch to half a day on normal usage after update to android 14. Loved it, bu sold it after constant need to go hiking with power bank.
@@rzuuuuu That's bad luck - I had some teething issues with Android 14 on mine a few months ago (eg Google Wallet not working properly), but battery stayed about the same. I find it can be hard to separate the OS upgrade from physical battery degradation.... Meanwhile the Pixel 8 is nearly back to the right size (width anyway - no idea why screens went from 19:9 to 20:9).
@@rzuuuuu My Pixel 5 lasts 2 full days on a full charge, with around 4-5 hours screen on time normal use at home. Surely should last 1 day even with data and gps use - probably just needs a new battery.
Wife and I both had pixel 5 phones. We both loved them. We've since moved on, she has a 7a and I have a 7 pro. Trade in on both Pixel 5's was excellent!
@@Krooks522 They were still working fine, no issues at all. I try and replace the phones every 2 years so my current 7 Pro will be getting replaced at the end of the year. I'm a big Pixel/Android fan. As a bit of background I'm 71 years old and I was an IT tech from about the age of 19 :)
@@wuss999 I am actually more curious about the Battery Health when you had traded em because I am currently on a P8P and so is my mom. I usually change my phone every year but my mom on the other hand does it every 4-5 years.
Still using my Pixel 5. Did a battery replacement two years ago. I also have a refurbished one in a box as backup. Really like the small size. Also, I watched this video on it.
Thinking of doing the same tbh... have a pixel 5, battery is not what it used to be after 3 years but its not dropping dead out of nowhere like my pixel 4 lol. Replacing the battery on that tomorrow cause i love the small formfactor and the design was too beautiful.
I have been daily driving my pixel 5 for the last 2 weeks now, and I remember why I lived this form factor and the phone still runs great to me, I put my s23 ultra back down because and onto the shelf because I just enjoy this form factor and it's still fluid as hell, I'm gonna buy another just so I can keep one on standby, plus the cases and screen protectors are at a great deal also.
The Pixel 5 is the best Pixel. I sold my Pixel 8 because of the terrible fingerprint scanner and bought another used Pixel 5 and the rear fingerprint scanner is fantastic on it. And the form factor is also the best. Google needs to bring this phone back with updated specs.
I bought it second-hand 3 years ago, and I've been using it ever since. I can safely say it's still my favorite Android phone. By making small compromises across the board it became the perfect phone for me- I hope phone manufacturers will realise that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. Having more RAM and a faster SOC isn't necessary when the hardware is already good enough, and a convenient form factor can make a phone so much more enjoyable to use. The fingerprint sensor to open the notification shade is one of my favorite Android features and I use it very very often. It probably won't be long till 'good enough' phones will be cheap to manufacture for smaller companies! I can't wait :)
My first Pixel device and one of the best phones I've ever owned! The uniform bezel, slim form factor and great battery life did it for me - *chef's kiss*
I'm still using my Pixel 5. Battery life has improved with Android 14 and apps still work without any hitches. The fingerprint scanner remains the best ever in a Pixel and the size of the phone is perfect.
I have had the pixel 5 for about three years now and the thing i like most about it is that it hasn't got a glass back an that it's (at least for nowadays standards) pretty compact.
@@htshpoonia1057 serious bro I was in heavy confusion about getting this vs s22 . But whatever theese people say like network issues, heating issues ,bugs . Nothing is not even in the way of this phone . I compared it to my friends 13 pro and photos were extremely better in this phone . Selfies are also very good compared to s22 . Go for this phone . For sure 😃
@@debrajsom I didn't face any issues bro even I am in a low network coverage area .my old iPhone 12 couldn't get this much network reception. Way too better than 12 pro
I owned this Sage Pixel 5. Absolutely loved it. I've hoped back over to Apple for now cause my family/friends prefer Facetime Calls and imessage but if google can bring back a Pixel in a similar form factor to the 5 I'll come crawling back lol
I absolutely hate how big and bulky the Pixels have become. Recently bought and returned a Pixel 8, who wants that giant brick in their pocket? I think the problem is the market is now obsessed with gigantic batteries to maximize screen-on time, since people in their 20's stare at their phones 24/7. Those of us who just want a small, light, pocketable phone are left out to dry, there is literally nothing on the market for us.
Try Samsung S23, it has a similar size to Pixel 5 S23 / Pixel 5 Height 146.3 mm (5.76 inches) 144.7 mm (5.7 inches) Width 70.9 mm (2.79 inches) 70.4 mm (2.77 inches) Thickness 7.6 mm (0.3 inches) 8 mm (0.31 inches) Weight 168 g (5.93 oz) 151 g (5.33 oz)
Hi Damien, Wow never did I expect such coverage of a phone which I think was overlooked due to it's mid-range specs, but here we are. I actually regret giving my Pixel 5 away now. It was certainly not the best phone I have ever had but it had some things going for it. I liked the fingerprint sensor, the size and that beautiful green colour. The sound on it was horrible and it is something I certainly don't miss. The biggest thing about that phone is that it was with me when I had Covid in late 2020 early 2021. Even though I couldn't use it that much it was a constant companion and so it was with me through a very tough time. I think the people who like me owned the phone liked it for what it was. I will miss you Google Pixel 5.
Pixel 5 was my first pixel, I've been carrying a pixel 7 Pro since it came out, I'm happy with it but I still miss my pixel 5 size and feel in the hand.
Nice review ! I'm eyeing at the lastest Pixels with enhanced software and harware, but their design is not as appealing to me as the Pixel 5 design, which I bought just before the 7 was on sale. I still prefer the camera placement in the corner, and it has perfect screen and form-factor. I'd buy a phone with the SAME DESIGN, but newer specs any day (powerful and efficient SoC, current optics, fingerprint reader on the side/under the screen, and a DEX mode). That would help me keep Google phones as daily drivers on the long run.
I have been using the black version for three years. It is flat, sleek, light, and modest but powerful enough and has the best size to be used in one hand although it has also a one-hand operation feature. I LOVE IT! I am not a photographer or social media publisher so I don't need millions of pixels camera phone. I am not a bag-carrier person so I need to carry my phone in my pocket. I am just a regular person who uses daily-driving apps like maps, camera, WhatsApp, RU-vid, Instagram, and Twitter and this is the best phone for me. Having said that, you can take great photos, play any games, and do whatever you with a so-called fruit phone! Best features I like; it doesn't have a screen-fingerprint scanner so the screen is not so expensive it is symmetric and flat, so it doesn't have a chin it weighs only 151 gr The back fingerprint scanner has a scrolling feature Best camera phone that has free unlimited storage for Google Photos The only downside is that it is not going to get updated any more so I cannot choose my next phone.
I am still running a pixel 5, has been an amazing phone which has done everything i need. Wish it had a 3x zoom, that would have made it perfect! The sad thing now is even though I have no issues with the phone. It now has run out of updates & security patches 😢 which means even though it runs perfectly I will have to start looking for a replacement which is unfair to both myself and this gem of a phone!
Trying to decide whether to go w/the pixel 8a, or get the pixel 5. I understand pixel 5 no longer gets updates but i read so many positive comments about this phone. Im not a gamer, or do social media, or take massive amount of photos.
I’ve been using a Pixel 6a since last November and I love it. The one I purchased came running Android 13 out of the box and updated to Android 14 shortly afterwards. It’s been a great experience for me.
Cheers for giving this phone the credit it deserves! The video nailed it in that a lesser powerful chip doesn't break a smartphone experience. The Pixel 5 is plenty capable and still is serving me perfectly well as my daily driver! And as mentioned has only gotten better with the software updates. I'll be running it till Pixel 9, and honestly wouldn't want to change it if not for the end of software support. Kudos to the last of the og pixel experience phones, and with unlimited (high quality) Google photos storage to boot- honestly such an underrated feature.
the fingerprint scanner on pixel 5 screen size + unlimited backup is what holding me back from upgrade! replace new battery on this and here we go again friends!!!
Yes! Bring back small phones with pro specs and a physical fingerprint sensor. It can even be the power button. We miss the swipe function. And we don't want an in screen senor! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Great video! 💯🕶️💜
I still think this design language fits the most with Material You. I wish they kept going with it. But still happy to see the weird, textured back is gone.
I have always been "user of Samsung flagships". But I specifically ordered P5 in June 2023 for just PIXELITE EXPERIENCE. And I am happy in 2024 using as my main device.
I bought a used Pixel 5 last year as a backup phone, it's my best decision ever! Now I've been using it as my primary phone because I love it's size. It handles my daily tasks like a champ! I don't play games on this phone though, I'd rather use my other 6.7 inch phone for Netflix and some games if I want to. ;)
My favorite phone ever. Had so many great memories and adventures with the P5 in my pocket, and the size was perfect: about as big for one-handed use with a case on as it could be, and the small bezels meant good screen real-estate. Im on a P7 but have considered downgrading and flashing a custom rom to get that form-factor back 🤔
I recently switched from Pixel 2 (!) to Pixel 8 Pro because the rear cam module died. Now I miss the physical fingerprint reader on the back so much. I really don't understand why it has been removed after P5. And this form factor ... It would be the perfect phone for me if it was released today. I wish Google would read this: I hope you will release something like this one day!
I started off with Pixel 2. Love that phone. Then the 4. Love that phone. Then the 5. Love that phone. Then the 6a. That was a good phone too. Now on 7pro. Beast of a phone. But out of all my phones I still have them all and they all work perfectly apart from the P2 which is losing battery I still love to use the 2 4 and 5! The form factor on those is just perfect
Have had one since launch and have no desire to replace it. It's the perfect device for me and I've been with Google since their launch of the Nexus line. I'll stick with the 5 and android 14 for as long as I can because I doubt Google is gonna build another device this size, it's just perfect.
I still have the 4A lying around. I don't use it anymore because of the OS upgrades, but my time with it was one of the most enjoyable ones I've had with a smartphone. Everything what you said about the Pixel 5 (many things even better, in my opinion) plus it was more pocket friendly. You should do a 4A postmortem as well 🙂.
I bought my pixel 5 when i saw the design and size change on the 6.... 3 years later its still alive. battery is not what it used to be but i absolutely love that phone. Even got a pixel 4 that im repairing to use it from time to ti cause the small phones these days are dead. Been rocking the Pixel 9 pro xl for 3 weeks and its definetly a handful and heavy.
The size of this phone was perfect for me. I wish Google would reduce the size of A series phones, use some power efficient Snapdragon chipset like 6 gen 1 or 4 gen 2 to improve battery life.
great phone...super reliable, really love the size. i'm on the second replacement battery...i, like you, wish it had some kind of longer lens instead of the silly wide angle thing, but i dont carry a purse, so size matters!
Shout out to the forgotten Pixel, the Pixel 4a 5G, the P5s bigger and cheaper twin brother lol. They had the same processor and performance was great on that phone. I loved the matte plastic build and rear fp scanner, definitely miss the headphone jack too 🤕. I do prefer the size of the 8 I have now tho.
Centering the camera hole is the biggest downgrade. Having it on the side is much less noticeable and doesn't get in the way when viewing content in landscape.
I had two Pixel 5a phones. I really liked them, but they had a couple of issues that made them unusable. The screens were so bad that they scratched easily, and the last one cracked when I dropped it on the carpet. It cracked on the inside, and the heat was so bad during the summer that it shut off while I was using the GPS, and I didn't know where I was going. But the battery life was really good, I loved the camera, and it had a headphone jack. Even though it was fragile, it's still one of my favorite Pixel phones.
i've had this one for almost 3 years and would still be using it, if i had not blasted the screen again. loved it. the best phone i've ever had. it offered literally everthing i wanted in terms of software, design, size ect and it came for a very attractive price.
I uses iPhone, Pixel 5, now Pixel 8. Pixel 5 is def the best phone Ive owned. If Google makes another Pixel with the exact size and fingerprint sensor I would go and pay for it.
Still going strong with the Pixel 5. The software experience is second to none, and the hardware is adequate for most situations and most people. I really hope Google makes another device with similar form factor, as the size and slimness of it is hard to come by today.
That was the year that although there was no 5XL Pixel, there was a 4a with 5G -- and it was the sweet spot phone in the middle. The larger 4a had to be bigger in order to have a larger battery to accomodate the 5G band. While it also had the camera set up as the 5, it also had the headphone jack that the regular non-5G 4a retained. Not gonna lie, that was a pretty good year those Pixels came out.
I'm still using my Pixel 4a 5g (Pixel 5's cheaper plastic sibling) as my only mobile. Considered upgrading, but it still just works, apart from the battery, so I just plug it in for a few minutes. Camera tech is still amazing!
When the Pixel 5 came out, I was still using a Pixel 2, and I needed to upgrade soon because it didn't get updates anymore. I waited a bit and went for the Pixel 6 Pro. But I was never 100% happy with it: Too big, software and hardware issues. The Pixel 5 was one of the most beautiful phones of all time imho. And while not being very powerful and high-specced, it was solid and didn't have any issues for the most part, apart from the crappy speaker. I wonder if I'd be happier with it. But if I had gone for it, I'd have to upgrade very soon already. Today, Pixel phones still aren't about the best specs and raw performance. Still, if my current 6 Pro broke today, I'd still go for the Pixel 8 (non-Pro). But I'll wait for the Pixel 9 at least, since I really got used to having a telephoto lens and I don't want to miss it (and the rumors say it will have one). I will go back to a smaller form-factor for sure. A Galaxy S23 or S24 might be another option, but I think I'd still prefer the Pixel experience.
I just changed from 5 to fold after almost 4 years and I tell you, I did it only because of wanting a foldable. Everything worked still on that phone just like the day I bought it (or better, thanks to updates). Now will probably replace the battery and give it to my father
I tried ordering 4 different used Pixel 5s, and all of them had shot batteries (despite advertised claims of above 85%). I gave up cause I didn't feel like the expense and hassle of a battery change and and lack of OS/security updates. Bummer because I do not like the current crop of > 6.1" phones heavier phones with big camera bumps.
still using it to this day. usable. but looking to upgrade mainly because they no longer will support it and the battery life is draining really quick. im a heavy user and im pretty sure the battery is just getting old. definitely still my favorite phone of all time. camera can shoot amazing pics. and the display and processor still is great for anybody looking for a good light user phone who occasionally takes pictures and videos. and light multitasking.
When Google moved away form the rear finger print access to the front it and face unlock do not work like the rear scanner. Always easy to access, where I have to look at the phone and try to get the scanner or face unlock to work. Go back to the rear scanner with work great.
I had the Pixel 3xl, that was the best, then got a P5 which i think is amazing, maybe better than the P3XL, now on the P8Pro... its ok but seems to be less 'pixel' than prior generations
