I've spent the entire week with the Google Pixel 8 Pro as my daily driver, and I've switched. This has been the best, and most fun Android experience in recent memory, but the Google Pixel 8 Pro has one problem. The performance. Let's talk about it.

Just got the Pixel 8 Pro after being an Apple user for over 10 years and Its been the best decision ever. This phone just "makes sense". There are so many features I think other phone companies should take a look at.

Same here, I was Android since 1.0 on the HTC. THEN, I became an Apple 🐑 since iPhone 4. But Pixel 8 Pro was the phone that truly compelled me to go back to Android. I ordered mine just in time to take advantage of the free Pixel Watch 2 deal. Unfortunately it's not here yet but I Cannot wait to receive them in November.

What I'm loving about Pixels is every year they keep evolving and improving in quality. Something as an iOS user can't be said about iPhone. Each year since I had the 4a I've been waiting for Google to realize their potential with the Pixel line. This year is a really great start to Google finally realizing that potential. With the 8 series, Google fixed almost all my issues with the 6 and 7 series. So much so that I'm considering moving from my iPhone 13 to the regular Pixel 8.

I have to congratulate you on your P8P 1 week later review. You freaking nailed it, I have been watching a whole bunch of P8P reviews this past month and no one has described the experience of using the P8P as your daily driver as you have. It almost seems like these tech reviewers just repeat what the big-shot tech reviewers say on their channel just to look the part and don't really take the time to really use the device. After purchasing the P8P I have caught myself taking random pics of everything something I never did before with an iPhone. All the exclusive Pixel Calling features (Hold for me, Call Screen, Direct my call, Wait times, clear calling, spam block) you really do miss those quality of life features once you don't have them. The stock Pixel Android experience is so refreshing. And really I don't understand all the hate the P8P phone gets from these snob tech reviewers, it's almost as if it's the cool thing to do in their community. So thank you again for actually taking the time with the phone and giving us your honest opinion, I wish other reviewers would do the same instead of just reading the specs and telling you that they prefer the iPhone just because everyone else does.

For $1,000 it seems you should get a lot more processing power. I like my iPhone 14 ProMax but I’ve become bored with iOS and the iPhone lineup in general. They only make very minor incremental changes that don’t make it worth the upgrade to the 15. Personally I don’t need all of the Pro features iPhone offers but I’m not buying a 15 Max with the same processor as the previous gen 14 Pro’s. It just doesn’t make economical sense and I feel it’s a step backwards. Thank you for your honest review but it doesn’t look like I’m going this route for sure.

Samsung fabbed chip is the culprit for the "room for improvement battery life" so theres nothing even Google's wizardry can do in that department, not to mention if the SD 8 Gen 2 was equipped in the 8 Pro we'd have the longest lasting Android device if not any device period, because Pixel software is already so well optimized.. oh well as It still is more than decent and shines else where 😊

It seems opinions are mixed about the 8 pro or at least element’s of it , I have been trying to like it , but I’m afraid I don’t have a glowing report for the finger print scanner which in my use is at best inconsistent and sometimes just bloody infuriating (maybe mines a dud), like wise the Face ID very average and utterly useless at night ( unlike the iPhone which just works in all conditions 99.999999999999% of the time), but I’m glad your experience is ok. The magic eraser also seems somewhat limited to certain scenes where it’s not too busy , if it’s busy the AI has no clue what the back ground should be and just fails . For me I still find my iphone a better more refined device overall , that’s just me though. But the pixel will remain my second phone , I haven’t really had enough time to give the camera a work out , but just taking some happy snaps around the house it seems pretty good .

The Pixel 8 pro is a perfect phone. The fingerprint scanner is phenomenal the modem is definitely improved. I have no complaints! The gaming is a little wishy-washy right now because I play all the intensive games in the Play store and this phone handles it perfectly. The only issue is for a higher quality settings. None of these games are optimized for the pixel 8 pro. So that's why you can't play on higher settings. But the chip 100% can handle the higher settings. We just need more optimization from game developers! When I play Diablo immortal I went into the settings and pretty much maxed out the device compatibility options to where the game is telling me that it's running on high settings. The phone still handles it so it's not that the phone isn't able to play high quality games. It's literally just the optimization. In 5 months or so, all of these high quality games will be perfectly optimized. Just like it happened for the pixel 6 and 7 you couldn't play virtually any high quality games but over time they got better. I'm playing Diablo immortal on my Pixel 8 with no stutters no hiccups and I pretty much got the settings as high as possible for the phone!

@@jaywright9635 Yes perfect. The only issue is with app optimization. I've used this phone everyday since launch. There hasn't been a single issue. How is the modem holding up? That's my sticking point. I need to have reliable connections like my Samsung phone. Really for a 1000 dollar phone, it needs to provide better. I know for everyday task, it will work just fine. However when you think about it, would you pay 1000 for a laptop with a i3 processor or an i7 processor? Both will do regular task fine but for my money, I rather pick the i7 because they able to handle everything better. Pixel might have the software. But so does Samsung or Apple. There are software that I like from each phone that I wish my main phone would adapt. There are things I wish Samsung would adapt from pixel and vice versa. I really want the pixel to be my main phone but there are things they still have not fix that is important to me for a smartphone.
@valismind
@valismind 7 месяцев назад
It's been better than the 15 Pro Max for me in terms of connectivity. I actually have had no problems with it. And the argument is flawed. It's not just about the chip, you have to look at every aspect. Would you pay $1000 for a laptop with a 60hz display, or choose the one with a best in class 120Hz display? It's a phone tbh the chip isn't that important unless you're doing demanding things. Id rather have the things I interact with on a daily basis be better.

I don't believe the Pixel 8 Pro is the ultimate phone (by some margin), but boy are Google improving all the time. Yes, a lot of it's AI trickery is done outside of the device on the cloud and in Google photos, but this makes good sense as it's chipset is not powerful enough to deal with overly demanding things. At least not without hitting battery life. It comes quite close though. The chipset seems to have excellent thermal control at the expense of blazing benchmark performance, and it's battery life is so so, but it is all an improvement over the 7 series. Throw an 8Gen 3 into the Pixel 9 series (and inevitably up the price) and I will be looking to Google to perhaps break my long stint with Samsung flagships.

What about the low-rating Amazon customer's reviews? 3.7 from 5 stars, verses 4.5 from the iPhone and Samsung? and they all complain like: heat, stutters, and modem?
@rabiusalihumamuda1545
@rabiusalihumamuda1545 7 месяцев назад
I don't know why people complain too much about curve screen, I've never experience any bad thing about it. Curve screen always make a phone look and feel premium. Samsung will still use it for their s24 ultra model and some this RU-vidrs will not complain.
@valismind
@valismind 7 месяцев назад
Samsung isn't using a curved display in the S24 Ultra, because people don't want it. I think that it looks, and feels more premium with one, but from a practicality standpoint, it doesn't make sense. When watching content that falls over the "waterfall" of the curved edge, you get a shift in colour, you also get a lot more accidental touches, and it's easier to break. Plus, it's a pain to find tempered glass screen protectors.

-battery is average and will go downhill from this point -doesnt have video object eraser like Snapdragon -magic editor is a cloud based service, so you're buying a piece of hardware in exchange for a cloud based service -no raytracing -no call screen outside the US -longevity of the device is hardware limited, regardless of 7 years of updates -thermometer was an accident that they put into production -price way out of line considering the competition
@valismind
@valismind 7 месяцев назад
I'm in Canada, call screen works fine. Who needs ray tracing? Is video object eraser out on a production unit, or are you just quoting what the new snapdragon drops can do? Thermometer works with human temps but isn't regulated by FDA so they can't say it does it. Price for this flagship is on par with base model phones from Samsung, and Apple.
@shivar925
@shivar925 7 месяцев назад
@@valismind you don't need ray tracing, an inaccurate thermometer, UFS 3.1, an inefficient chip, or 7 years of updates. And yeah I'm quoting Qualcomm's keynote about video object eraser because every manufacturer that uses the chip could have the feature, unlike Google with their custom NPU that could barely edit a photo without connecting to their servers

I returned my unit. I'm very disappointed as the cameras are somehow better than the Pixel 7 Pro. Comparing it to the 7 Pro, thermals were much worse and battery life was about the same or worse. I had thermal issues while using GPS and Android Auto (wired or wireless). What made me switch was the annoyance that came with those thermal issues. I had to drive 1.5 hours for a wedding out in the middle of nowhere. I took my Pixel 8 Pro and 15 Pro Max (esim in the Pixel). On the way there, Android Auto disconnected twice. Im not sure if this is from heat or not, but my 8 Pro was very warm to the touch. When i got to the venue, i had to call my carrier and wait about an hour to switch my sim just to have a more reliable phone for the drive home. I factory reset the phone and tried again a couple of days later, no luck. It just liked to be warm 24/7 it seemed. My 7 Pro doesnt have this issue, it gets warm, but not all the time. I still HATE the optical fingerprint sensor. It is garbage and almost not usable. But it took some of my favorite shots, so it makes me sad. I may try again after a few months when some more patches come.

I have been experiencing heat issues...i work in a busy restaurant and the phone wants to listen, it says for a shazaam like function to identify music, but I think we all beliueve these things listen to us for data collection too. The chip is focused on AI and the listening portion is key for the AI on a phone chip. I think the phone is working hard to decipher all the chatter at my workplace because it doesn't ever get hot in my pocket outside of my work.

I'm on Verizon and coming off of an S21 to Pixel 8 Pro, no issues with calls at all. This is one area that made me switch to Samsung for awhile as I used to get a lot of dropped calls with Pixels at one point and even in the beginning I was not able to make a phone call in my apartment unless I was on wi-fi. Not the case with the 8. At least for me it's a non issue.

The Facial Recognition on this Pixel is really great. Banking Apps, Payment Apps amongst others only give you the Biometrics option most secure. The fact that the Pixel 8 is the first smartphone in the world that can unlock secure apps BOTH by face and fingerprint is a feat in my opinion. Literally hope Samsung and others follow suit. Google has suddenly become a leader for a lot of reasons, a first ig, which is great.
