I've been lucky this year to have both of these phones ... The comparison you did is spot on. If you need a phone to do everything (The Kitchen sink approach)... Work, play it's the S23U... If you want a phone to be your companion, to just work (Apple approach) then the Google Pixel 8 Pro. Great video as always.

I too got the pixel 8 pro about 3 weeks ago and it's the best phone I've ever used. It just works the way I want a phone to work. Photos and video editing features are incredible

I have an S23 Ultra. Had Note series since Note 4. I got a bit bored of it. I thought I'd try a Pixel 8 Pro. Straight out of the box hated it. Feels like a toy compared to the much premium feeling of an S23u. Also , the screen on the Pixel makes a tapping/hollow noise, which put me off straight away. Yes, the camera is much more natural on the Pixel, but i am happy with the S23 camera, especially the 100x zoom.

Let me break it for you all. i just traded in s23 ultra with pixel 8 pro. Things i miss ability to hide apps , more control of the performance and see how much resources are beimg used by it other than this the ability to customize the phone more in s23 ultra. One basic function was to double tap to lock screen is not present in pixel and people have been asking for it for years and google doesnt listen. Better off with one plus and s24 ultra. If i were to buy a phone for 3 years or more ill go with samsung and oneplus.

Hey there! I honestly have no agenda here haha. I just try to find the good in devices I review for people that may appeal to. No phone is perfect of course. I do prefer the S23 for a number of reasons but there are going to be a lot of people that prefer the pixel (for one reason or another)

It is the same for every new flagship device to be fair. So many people fall for all this papering over obvious cracks and end up being swept along on the waves of blind excitement or just downright dishonesty. It is their money I guess.

The only interesting thing about the Pixel for me is the software Google has installed on the Pixel. The Ai, and all the stuff you can do to your photos and video with it.

The AI wizardry is actually mainly off device. It is all carried out in the cloud and Google photos. This is simply because the Tensor G3 is not up to carrying out such tasks on the device itself.

Bunch of stuff just works due the high speed ai performance of Tensor G3. The g3 is a mobile AI beast and neither the A17 pro nor the Gen 3 will have not as many AI capailities.

My pixel 8 pro handles fortnite at epic settings at 60 fps. That's a win for me. Everything else I've been impressed with it coming from an s23 ultra I probably won't go back to it.

This review helped me a lot. I'm not into gaming, I'm retired and don't do "productivity". I want a phone for calls, text, and portable photography (when I don't have my "real" camera with me). I'm not above the fun and games of the AI, and use it in photo editing software already anyway. Thanks.

@@jonathandurham6678 I ended up going for the S23 Ultra. In the end, it just made most sense. It's comparable in pixel to camera and you can always get gcam. It's better in every other way but the biggest deal is the way better battery

AHHHH! I still can't decide lol I have ALWAYS had a Galaxy with my recent being the S21 Ultra 5G (which 5G just plain stinks btw)! But I am fed up with it overheating, dying super fast and the speakers suck :( I will literally have my phone at 100% and as soon as I unplug it (and literally don't use it cuz I am in the car) I notice within 15 minutes it's down to 90% and then it drops even faster when I have to text someone! I need a new phone asap but I am losing my mind on the one I want lol I am simple! The only games I really play is Best Fiends and a stupid merging game so I am not fancy! I like taking good pics but FAILED with this one! I was so excited when I took it to Disney and could barely figure out how to utilize all 5 cameras as I am not a photographer! So I just need simple but lasting...something EASY to navigate with and and a phone with great sound, great screen colors, long/decent life and great camera(s)! HELP!!!!

The S24 coming soon doesn't really change much tbh. If you want stock android with the Google exclusive pixel features, then the S24 doesn't even matter.

p8p - brighter screen (wont notice much day to day), better photos, haptics, feel in hand s23u - better screen design, smaller punch hole, better battery life, speakers, spen, zoom But in the end, price decides. If its 100 or more, get the cheaper, you will be happy with both. just that the media consuption of s23u is better and the spen is great if you like to use it as me in every app.

Good review. It feels like comparing phones that are not even close in price seems a stretch though. I am currently debating between the samsung s23 and the google pixel 8 pro, which are almost the same price. The ultra is 50% more, so it is not even in my search. I used to buy the best samsungs available, but I find phones have all surpassed what I need from them. The money is better spent on other tech. But I tried going with a samsung 23 fe, and it had connectivity issues, so I am back to looking.

@@Rz4rect0r in my country, the 8/256gb s23u is 1150$, 12/512gb is 1390$, which is insane given its 1yo and S24u comes in a week. P8p has 12gb in every version, 128gb is 1050$, 256gb is 1150$ and 512gb is 1400$. I get P8p is 6 months newer than s23u, but these prices are insane. And elsewhere they are even more expensive.

You should talk about the smoothness in the software like animations. Samsung is well known for being trash, laggy animations and frame drops and year after year new one UI version but they don't fix it

I have both and find the animations on the galaxy smoother this time around. Typically Google would take the crown on that.

I can live without Al. But I do love voice to text on the pixel. People gives google way too much credit when it comes to software. But Samsung has their own software that is great and very useful. Good Luck and their AR Zone are fun to use. Spen is on another level. As an overall package, the s23 ultra is the better phone. Better battery life, better modem are way more important than just some Al stuff.
