I love these guys so much mine is getting massive. Thankfully mine has been a breeze to care for they just eat a lot but I breed my own feeders. So I can see that being hard for someone that doesn’t breed their own feeders. Thanks for the video definitely enjoyed watching I absolutely love these frogs easily my favorite species.
A lot of folks keep these guys in a dirt enclosure with a water dish. It seems to me that this is more for the lazy owner who doesn't want to deal with water than for the frog. Pixies should always be able to have both water and a digging spot to burrow in. Every time I see someone upgrade their frog to a half and half style, the frog will use the water area. It's just a natural behavior for them to soak even though they aren't strong swimmers. Ours loves his water dish and in a week or two, he's going to move into his big boy tank which has a large filtered water area. Yes you can get away without the water, but you're not giving your frog quality care. I'm a big believer in providing animals with as many forms of enrichment and ability to perform their natural behaviors as possible. The bare minimum should never be the default care we aim for as keepers.
Update: he's been in his tank for a month and he spends all of his day in the water and only comes onto land at night. If you put him on the land he just hops back into the water to soak.
I have a 5 year old Pixie Frog that I’ve had since he was the size of a quarter, he’s now 2 pounds and about 8 “ long. I love him very much but he is extremely food aggressive and will attack anything that moves in front of him including your hands. He’s the only creature out of all of my reptiles I have to wear gloves with for my own safety. 😂 They are fabulous pets but definitely not for those who are easily intimidated.
Thanks for this. This is one of the most comprehensive guides to African Bullfrogs that I’ve seen. I was set on getting one, but now I’m not so sure. Mostly because of the aquatic requirements. I will definitely reconsider and probably move it to the bottom of my amphibian wish list.
OMG baby Jenemba is so adorable!!! Can you make videos on baby care for certain reptiles vs adult care? Ex: baby leopard gecko care vs adult leopard gecko care?
I don’t know how a pixie frog can be any worse than a jeweled lacerta. My lacerta will bash her head against the door to get her meal and will leap for your fingers if she thinks you’ve got something😂
He is so cute 🥰 this video was so helpful now I know what goes in to taking care of pixie frogs. Can you do a video where you feed all your animals hornworms?
Your videos always bring me so much joy thank you 😊 I also have a chronic illness and don’t leave my house too often my pets also help me to keep going. Do you have any tips for accepting an illness and that it may always be a part of your life? I hope your doing well 💜
Thank you so much for your love and support! Animals have been such an essential part of accepting a life of chronic illness. If you can't go out and do things, bring all the happiness to yourself in your own home. For me, taking care of animals, collecting things I love, and reading books really help me cope when I am having days I do not feel well and cannot do much. Stay strong!
