A mysterious visitor is coming from France! Nobody has it, has seen it, or knows much about it... but that won't stop us about speculating about the new 36x24mm Pixii Max rangefinder camera! Plus probably more than you really wanted to know about why focal lengths don't matter, how 40 degrees defines natural perspective, how much four nickels weigh, and some silly drawings...

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: The video talks a lot about angles of view, and how they're affected by format size, and some people watching might get the idea that I'm saying Pixii HAD to go to a Simplex-format (36x24mm) sensor to cover a 55-degree viewing angle. Nope, it's not like that at all. Pixii could have dropped their newly redesigned, wider-view rangefinder module into the Pixii Plus and just renamed the framelines to fit the Super 35 format -- "24mm" instead of "35mm" for the 55-degree view angle, for example. But by switching to a larger sensor, they make it possible to get the 55-degree view angle with a much wider range of much more readily available lenses: 24mm M-mount lenses are fairly scarce, while there are scads of 35mm lenses in a wide range of sizes, manufacturers, maximum apertures, and ages. So it's all about providing more lens choice in a wide-angle camera, or at least that's my take...
