Hello everyone! In this video I am Pixinsight image processing OSC narrowband data of NGC 1499 that was taken by Astrophotographer Ron Brecher using his Skywatcher Esprit 150, QHY 367C cooled cmos OSC camera and an Optolong L-eNhance filter.

Keep these processing videos coming, Shawn, maybe if I ever get some clear skies again I can come back and check out your tips.

I've been learning PixInsight for about a month now during our monsoon season here in Arizona. I had plenty of data as I save all Light Frames on every image I shoot. I thought I was doing fine and was satisfied with my final products until I watched this video. You demonstrated how a combination of applications that, in themselves, don't seem to make much difference. But in combination they certainly do. I raced motorcycles professionally for a number of years and learned very early that the difference between being good and being great was less than one per cent. Finding that one per cent was nearly an obsession. That is what I have seen here. I now have a whole new set of tools and applications to apply to my images that will make them that much closer to great. Ron and I are "astro" friends on Facebook and I intend to mention to him what an awesome experience this video was to me.

This is a great video. My licence for APP has expired and its a bit annoying paying a monthly fee for PS I have been considering a pixinsight purchase, as o OSC user and with the Lextreme filter a firm favourite this has pretty much sold me on investing. I'll be referring back to this tutorial alot!! Keep up the great work.

Perfect timing. I've been processing Narrowband Data in Pixinsight for four years but just shot some OSC data and had no idea what to do with it! Lol

Hi Shawn Firstly thank you for a fantastic video ,I have owned Pixinsight a while now but until recently only played with it and this video has shown me so much . I did notice when you were making the video you showed the HDR Multiscale Transform tool and how to use it but it looked as if you only used it on your preview window and did not apply it to the main image , Was it applied off screen or did you choose not to use it ? Once again thank you for sharing

Hi Trevor - I didn't end up using HDRMT. I felt the result didn't provide enough of a benefit to the image. Thanks for watching and clear skies!

In the MLT noise removal step, I have seen some people use luminance and them chrominance removal, but you use rgb/k in the target. What's the difference? Do you always use rgb/k?
@VisibledarkAstro
@VisibledarkAstro 4 года назад
I find it works well all around. RGB/K is fine for either luminance or chrominance image. You could target luminance or lightiness specifically if desired. I've not seen much of difference though. Best is to experiment with your situation and see which will provide the best result.

Is this a mosaic? There is no way the framing of the Esprit 150 and that camera produced this image. The focal length of the 150 is 1050mm
@VisibledarkAstro
@VisibledarkAstro 4 года назад
Not a mosaic. It was taken with a full frame camera, hence the large FOV.

Not great that the inset image of your head covered the panel of the operations

Not really enjoying the deconvolution part.. your global dark values are way to high, and not using the PSF generated from the actual image is just the lazy man's way of improvising.. and results could be better if you would spend a little bit more time on creating your own PSF, a protection mask for local support, use small values for the global and correct values for the global white, to not granulate the background..
