In this video I will walk through PixInsight's new feature of Spectrophotometric Colour Calibration which uses the Gaia Space observatory data that can be downloaded onto your workstation. I'll cover the previous colour calibration tools and then what makes SPCC better.

Thank you this made good sense. I'll try it. When you download the Gaia database, should we grab the checksum file too?

Thanks Craig, I'm glad it made sense. In terms of the checksums you can use these to check it's not corrupt or has been replaced with something else, but personally I never bother.

I keep my GAIA Db files on a network-connected NAS drive. No issues with performance when running SPCC

That's fair enough, to be honest these days networks are Gbps and so pretty quick, either way it's a trade off of speed vs. space, not a bad idea though. I have them on a laptop so I'll have the data wherever I am. :)

@@astrojourneyuk I have the smaller GAIA Db on the laptop for when I travel and do astro.

Is there a process for adding a different filter? I'm using a ZWO DUO filter...
@astrojourneyuk
@astrojourneyuk Год назад
That's a good question really because I've only seen how to create filters from other filters that already exist to combine them to create a custom filter based on the camera sensor and the filter added to the setup. I'll see what I can find.

You’re a ZWO guy, why don’t you do a video on their software, it seems like a great solution for newcomers

I keep meaning to but I’m just taking a little break from Astro at the moment. I realised that Astro and RU-vid was taking over a little too much.

SPCC doesn’t do any better than usual color calibration. Besides, curve function modify color substantially. Moreover, it is not useful for narrow band imaging.
