Looking for picturesque mountain lakes in a perfect alpine panorama? The deep blue color paired with breathtaking panoramic vistas? The five lake hike at Pizol right in the heart of the UNESCO world heritage site of Sardona, located in eastern Switzerland, might be just what you are looking for.
This alpine tour takes you along beautiful lakes, while you walk along the scenic trail.
The colorful lakes will offer stunning views and incredible panoramic vistas in front of the beautiful mountain backdrop.
Enjoy views including the Glarus alps, the Rhine valley, and even lake Konstanz.
The hike goes past the deep blue lakes Wildsee and Schottensee. The Schwarzsee is a wonderful contrast, offering a dark greenish color. It is not an easy hike, but one of the most scenic trips you can do in Switzerland.
The hike includes a few up and downhill sections, but it can be considered family friendly by swiss standards.
This is one of the most popular hikes in Switzerland, so expect some traffic on the paths. The beauty of the hike is undisputable, though.

With New Zealand, you should have had a bit of mountain views yourselff. Right? Do you miss the mountains a lot? I have a hard time imagining living in areas I've lived before, simply since Switzerland is so beautiful.

It actually got to quite a few people. We saw a lot of people on the way down that will probably not have reached the lift. It is too easy to get lost in time, while marveling at these beautiful lakes. We had a close call ourselves and only made it with 10 minutes to spare.

Thank you so much @ms.kayak7seas. These lakes sure kept us staring for a while as well. However, that person slipping on the snowfield is not me. We do wear proper hiking boots. But even those cannot always save you from slipping on the snowfields. On more exposed hikes, we will even carry spikes to ensure we don't slip when it could be seriously dangerous. On these popular hikes, you too often find people in normal sneakers or other simple shoes. Switzerland does regular advertisement campaigns to make people aware of the dangers of mountain hiking. Still, too often unprepared people end up getting hurt in the mountains. Thank you so much for all the positive feedback. We see it is getting harder for you to spot the obvious mistakes :). (Although we do appreciate every time you do, making us improve again and again).

We're always jealous of the incredible mountains you all have in Switzerland. In order for us to see mountains similar in America, we have to drive across the county (15+ hours for us on the East Coast) to the Northern Rocky Mountains and they're still not as comparable to yours. It's so impressive how the mountain goats can climb up the sides of those cliffs, I understand it's what they are used to but it is so incredible. Sehr schöne Wanderung. Wir waren auch letzten Herbst dort. Haben es wegen dem Schnee auf den Wegen nur bis zum Wildsee geschafft. Habe dazu auch ein Video gemacht. Die 5 Seen Wanderung werden wir mit Sicherheit irgendwann nachholen. Es ist einfach wunderschön dort. Ein tolles Video. Klasse gemacht. Mir gefällt eur Kanal. Tolle locations. Scheint bei euch ja echt unglaublich viel Schnee gehabt zu haben. Schade, dass ihr die anderen Seen damit verpasst habt. Da ist schon noch einiges schönes auf der Wanderung zu sehen (wie hoffentlich hier sichtbar). Die Schweiz bietet einfach unglaublich schöne Orte. Hoffentlich findet ihr auch noch ein paar Ideen die ihr noch nicht erledigt habt.

We picked the time of the Züri Fescht, hoping many people would be there and not in the mountains. That worked out quite well. We have done the hike before as well and it was a lot more crowded. This time, we still had quite some people around, but we intentionally try to avoid showing other people whenever possible.

How long is the hike and from where does it start? Do you have to take the cable chair?

This depends a lot on your speed in the terrain and how much you want to enjoy the landscape. It can be done in about 3:45 I'd say, but we took more time, just enjoying the lakes. For the cable car: you have to segments. The gondola and the chair lifts. For a day hike, the Gondola is going to be required unless you are looking for an extra challenge. The chair lifts go in two segments. One up to Gaffia, and one to the Pizol Hut. We have done the hike also without the last lift to Gaffia, but it will add about 40 to 60 minutes or so to your time. Keep in mind that the last lift down from Gaffia is at about 16:30

Not sure what the time from the hut is. Should be about 15 minutes early to match Gaffia. I also find the hike more beautiful from Pizol Hut to Gaffia than the other way around.
