Want to win some bar bets? Ask someone to ID the player whose initials were LB and whose school was ISU and who led the college game in scoring in the '78-79 season? It was Lawrence Butler of Idaho State.
They must have just decided to give the MVP to the player on the winning team with the most points. Bird was off in this game, for a good portion of it, which was highly unusual. Peck, Moncrief, Dudley and #15, with the frizzy hair, all played good, solid games. It's always interesting to watch footage of these NBA players, when they were in college, because I didn't get to see many college games back then. It's interesting to see some really good players who didn't go on to play in the NBA, also.
Jerry Sloan did not want him. He had Reggie Theus. He was friends with Bobby Knight. And he knew about his personal troubles of quitting Indiana, his young wife, and so on.
Play-by-play really applies more to radio than TV.. You are right. Its more narration, fragmentedly with summation more than every move with the ball. I was on radio amd later web radio, and preferred play-by-play on those instead of doing it on TV..more of a challenge mentally. One reason why I loved it.
5:20 Dick Stockton: "Not only is Bird a great shooter... he's maybe the best passing big man since Bill Walton." You call that having it in for a player?
@@davanmani556 Suspect?? Bird was a 3X All-NBA Second Defensive Team, sits about #35 on career steals list. Bird also had maybe the best anticipation of any player. Larry was/is SO known for his offensive game, that often times ppl forget he was also very good on the defensive end.
@@davanmani556 NBA career defensive rating: 63rd Larry Bird 77th Robert Parish 89 Pete Maravich 112 Michael Jordan 164 Lebron James 195 Magic Johnson 199 Charles Barkley
Only Bird and Moncrief made it big in the NBA.. KING was a journeyman. Mokeski was a solid, but one dimensional guy. Natt was only good for awhile, but injuries choked his career. D.Bradley was known for "D", but was offensively challenged in the NBA. DEMIC was a bust, Evans was not much. Galis?? Galis?? Butler?? VINNIE JOHNSON "THE MICROWAVE" was a great sixth-man. DUEROD was a journeyman.. Flowers was a bust. Cheese Johnson was a bust..
If this is his senior year it is straight finger. His pointer finger got wrecked between college and the pros. He didn't play any college ball after he shattered the knuckle of his index finger on his right hand. In this game he has a broken thumb. He broke it during the NCAA finals.
This is an all-star game made up of college seniors. Magic was not a senior, so he would not have played. He is a couple of years younger than Bird, I believe.
