Breakdown of the tech used here 0:17 Mach launch Done by climbing on a wall, holding the jump input you used to climb the wall, and letting go of dash while climbing the wall This retains your vertical speed gained by climbing the wall 0:26 Fastfall Done by pressing Grab+Down at the same frame, however he buffers it by climbing on the wall Think of it as having the groundpound speed, but being in the falling state 1:15 High jump Done by pressing Grab+Up+Dash+Jump (goddamn) at the same frame, however he buffers it with an uppercut Not even gonna try to explain how it works since i dont even know myself 2:54 Instaturn/Quickturn Done by fastwalking (Grab while running, let go of dash while grabbing, then you walk really fast) then pressing Dash+(opposite direction) in the same frame, however he buffers it with a pause Essentially what this does, it abuses the fastwalk glitch. If you're fastwalking, then press dash again, you preserve most of your speed However, since you switch directions instantly while walking, you can abuse this to turn instantly 3:49 Gap Dive You can superjump cancel, then dive out of it A small oversight though, your hitbox is still 1 tile tall (for reference peppino is 2 tiles tall) when diving out of a shoulderbash, meaning that you can skip entire parts of levels with this trick (pizzascare is a good example, and I'm not talking about the stinky fart skip) it'd be nice if you pinned this since it gets annoying seeing someone comment "how did he jump so high" or "omg hacker you use fling hack"
At 3:49 isn't actually a gap dive since there's two tiles instead of one (it's more like a more lenient version of a gap dive), but this is a good explanation of the tech used
It’s changed enough so it’s more innovative with its level design, but preserved enough to be a recognizable rework of John gutter rather than a random stage that just so happens to be themed after John gutter. To whoever made this level, good job!
"Time to see some free ripoff" *looking* "Huh? Kaizo tower seems weird,I should try it!" *playing* "why is everything changed? WHY IS THERE NO TUTORIAL?"
holy moly the level is just amazing and just reminds me about kaizo level things. the part where you just pause it to get mach 4 was just amazing, have never seen that bug before. love your creativity lol
Thanks :) The bug is called an "instant turn" which allows you to turn around and retain your current speed, you can see how to do it here (which also explains some other tech in this video) docs.google.com/document/d/1e3DdcMYJ8b9U0xJgEzX9p4qSh4bLICC7-zloLcjswME/edit
Y'know, I thought that I knew Peppino's movement versatility through-and-through, even tricks people usually don't know (grabbing and turning mid-air to stop all momentum, and letting go of dash before hitting a wall to just drop from it instead of hitting it), but this...
There's still some more tech that's not showcased in this video, gap dives and fastwalk high jumps are some that are well known but you get some really obscure ones like wall highjumps, instaturn highjumps, enemy buffered midair highjumps (there's a lot of high jump ones) and powerbomb clips
my fav part of this is that it’s still the same general outline + idea of the level just adding in tech and difficulty like no level in the original game
now me personally? this just feels like pizza tower kaizo with a john gutter skin, I don't feel the john i mean its kinda there at the end, but it's just resized john gutter awesome gameplay tho i could never
i would say this is more of a d-side since it uses very advanced speedrunning tricks a b-side would use more of the base game moveset instead still very well designed, great job!!!
I mean what's funny is that the celeste d-sides (monika's d-sides in particular since I haven't played anyone else's and that's usually what people think of for celeste d-sides) is that it uses base game tech aswell where you'd only need to use wavedashes and wallbounces for every level (except for 9d), it's just that it's very precise lol but yeah I do agree this is definitely a lot more advanced than what most people's idea for a b-side would be
To make it EVEN MORE difficult, shorten the timer, make it so all the toppins require pizza time, the others (like gerome and secrets) that you have to be in lap 2 to get them, and make it so its a war timer.
the point of the level isn't to be a kaizo, it's to be challenging yet fun and use speedrunning tech everywhere Also you can't set things to specifically lap 2 lmao
