PJ “This delicate and beautiful song eluded us until the very last day in the studio,” Harvey said in a statement. “Over the previous five weeks we had tried so many times to capture it and failed, and/but then John [Parish] reinvented the feel of the guitar pattern. As he was demonstrating it in the control room, Flood handed Me a microphone and pressed record whilst I sat next to John trying to work out how to sing to it. The result somehow captures the ethereal and melancholic longing I was looking for. In the lyric everyone is waiting for the savior to reappear-everyone and everything anticipates the arrival of this figure of love and transformation. There is a sense of sexual longing and awakening and of moving from one realm into another-from child to adult, from life to death and the eternal.” - Pitchfork
Wow this is exactly my condition right now and just last night i walked into a storm and found bits of peace and today i have a new pj song in my recommendations Life is always interesting whether beautiful or miserable
@@itnotuptome7027 I think you're right (coincidentally LES and WC are my favourite PJ albums), but production is really different IMO (same for A Child's Question, August)
Older Polly is very much a refined artist compared to young Polly, but they are VERY different. Rid of Me hooked me when I was a youngster, but as I grew to appreciate art, Polly grew to provide it. She's grown on the same timeline as her audience. She is very unique that way. I am thankful that she continues to find time for music among her other artistic adventures.
RIGHT???????? My God, Dry and To Bring You My Love go SO HARD. LIKE WHAT? And then she's just got this like *whole discography* after that, where she is just continually growing and changing as an artist. Every era Polly is best Polly.
that’S not grounD breaking, nice, gooD, any adjective you wanna Say, but it ain’t grounD breaking. check the meaning of thoSe wordS b4 you uSe them again…
@@tlysergicaciddiethylamide5792So this is album is based on Polly’s poetry book Orlam. Meaning this a concept like her last Hope Six with her poetry Hollow of the Hand. And Recording In Progress where everyone could watch her record thru one way glass was also part of the theme. This is more introspective of her in growing up in Dorset as a child. For last 5 years, she’s been doing soundtracks for theater and television. Which is where this new sound of hers is coming from. It’s groundbreaking
My Queen...her music always melts to my soul 😊... I've loved her since I was 14...44 now... blessings from sioux falls ,SD, USA...deep Midwest...no money to aee her on the tour...ugh money
I’ll be honest. Came here strictly for Colin and I will support anything he does but I am in love with this song and her style. The video is amazing as well. Wow.
"I Inside The Old I Dying" The beech buds wait The aish buds wait The frogs and twoads in lagwood holes Hedgehogs in their leafy ditch All waiting for His kingdom The eth waits The dead brakes That host the holly's bloody beads They are His crown of thorns He will rise again Oh Wyman, Oh Wyman Unray I Unray I for en Oh Wyman, Oh Wyman Unray I Unray I for en Slip from my childhood skin I zing, I'm zinging through the forest I hover in the holway And laugh into the leaves Oh Wyman, Oh Wyman Unray I Unray I for en Oh Wyman, Oh Wyman Unray I Unray I for en I laugh in the leaves And merge to meesh Just a charm in the woak With the chalky children Of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore The chalky children of evermore
This song and the video have left me with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Sadness and hope have swollen up as a response to the images and emotions, the lyrics and the melody. I've ordered Orlam and I Inside the Old Year Dying and eagerly await immersing myself in the power of PJ's poetry and the music she has created with John and Flood and the others. The world drives me mad, but there is still respite in art that reflects our history and tells a story that we would do well to listen to.
Let England Shake is a modern masterpiece. I get some of those vibes here, which is no bad thing, and the White Chalk rawness. But this is a different sound I think. I love the subtle bells at the second half, the timings of the track are unusual and enchanting. Can't wait to hear PJ later this year. The venues she's chosen for the tour are great.
Gorgeous. She manages to capture an atmosphere of melancholy with similarities to White Chalk and LES, yet with a new ethereal twist. This visual is also sadly beautiful and provides an aesthetic that matches the sound so well!
I love this more and more with each listen. The subtle percussion feels like a heartbeat. The gentle escalation and repetition of the beautiful harmony in the final line summons longing. Hauntingly beautiful. ❤

You are awesome!! Thank you so much for posting this. Any chance you can also post the standard English version? Just to help give a clearer meaning of what the lyrics actually mean? Thank you again 😊
PJ Harvey is truly one of the most talented musicians out there right now. This new album just adds to the oeuvre and the legend. Bravo Polly Jean, keep slingin' that T-bird electric six and showin' 'em how it's done.
PJ is in my top 5 favorite artists of all time and she continues to amaze me with her musical depth and uncompromising artistry. This song is a stunner and it sounds like a mix between Let England Shake and White Chalk stylistically which are two albums I adore. Can't wait to hear the rest.
I had to double check that I hadn’t written this comment. Then check again- I agree with every word… in my top 5 fave artists of time. Probably my 2 favorite albums & this wonderfully sounds somewhere in the middle. Amazing!
Can't stop listening to this. Funny that PJ Harvey and Radiohead's respective journeys took them both to a point in the middle where they might equally sound like each other. PJ's falsetto is easier on the ear than Thom's though lol
Just off of the two singles, I can’t wait to see this LP performed live. I’ll cross the ocean if I have to, I’ve gotta see how she does this in a theatre. ❤️💀🔥
From OC Ca, I'm trying to figure out how I can go see her. I hope she comes to So Cal, I've watched all her Let England Shake Tours and Hope Six available on the internet. Shes unbelievable live.
What an amazing video, a lot of work went into that. Actually love the song as well, starting to look forward to the album It was too short though, I hope the album version has at least another minute or two of the instrumental.. I could listen to that all day. Reminds me of Radiohead's Hail To The Thief era.
I have heard the live version of this song for Colin somewhere and this official version (also for Colin). But both time I have instantly fell in love with this beautiful song as well.

One of the best & most original, creative musical artists of any age. PJ Harvey keeps delivering music well worth listening to. I have all of her studio albums. Each one brings something unique & inspiring. Her latest, "I Inside the Old I Dying", no less so. Brilliant!
@@Henry-Paget Indeed. She's a consummate artist. One who never compromises her work to commercial interests, which sees no end of run-of-the-mill, repetitive, formulaic music. Hence she still creates music that's always interesting, different & outstanding. A rare talent.
This magical creature with whom I share the earth, is one of the reasons I choose life instead of a raspberry filled donut and a walk off the tallest cliff🌚🪬🖤🐋
She's wondering if she STILL HAS IT or if anyone still REMEMBERS her?? Is she kidding right now????? Paula Jean Harvey, you don't gotta *eeeeeven* gotta worry about any of that. You had me at Sheela Na Gig and you will aaaalways have me.
Thank you always for sharing pieces of your childhood, your self, and your heart with us. I am a forever fan and want PJs music playing as I’m buried once I pass.
