This color scheme is similar to the 2011 retro PK Ripper looptail that SE came out with a dozen years ago. I really love the way your flight cranks, gold power disc, and blue sprocket bolts look on this build.
Loved the PK RIPPER,the QUADANGLE and the 24” FLOVAL FLYER cruiser. The PK RIPPER was the most popular BMX bike when I was riding BMX bikes in the 1980s.SO MANY people had them, mostly street riders and freestylers.SE have rereleased all their classics, plus 24,26,27 and 29 inch sizes.I’m trying to get hold of that gorgeous BLACK & GOLD rereleased 2011 QUADANGLE 24”.That was a real beauty.I think SE did a rerelease MIKE BUFF PK RIPPER,but I can’t remember which year that was.
in the UK, the PK ripper (along with Hutch) were the most expensive bmx's and it was RARE to even see any kid with one on our streets, so expensive and so crappy of a bike i'm glad i couldnt afford one :)
Sean, I have to tell you that bike is so close to my original 80’ - 81’ PK ripper, It’s tearing at my heart strings. Black and gold PK ripper, CW pro bars, ODI mushroom grips w/ donuts, redline stem, Shimano DX 1000 Brakes Front and rear, redline flight cranks, Hadley sealed bottom bracket, Shimano chain ring w/44th tooth sprocket, Shimano DX petals, Custom built Araya 7X wheels with Phillwood sealed hubs, Black and gold nipples with chrome spokes and of course Comp III Tires. I can’t remember the seat post and seat that was on the bike but I never cracked my Seatpost tube🤑.It took me a year to put that bike together and it vanished in seconds. Rad build and Rad memories. 🤘
I am 51 years old and back in the 80's not sure exact year i bought a brand new mongoose californian the year mongoose frame changed style, i was so proud of that bike, anyway someone once wanted to trade their pk ripper light blue very similar to yours and is was definitely tempting because pk's were so cool but the kid did not take as good of care of their bike as i did mine and i loved chrome too much lol, plus i wondered if it was stolen because if memory serves me right pk ripper cost more than my Mongoose. Cool build, it definitely takes me back to that era. By the way i have recently started watching your videos and you inspired be to get back into bmx style bikes and bought a 26 inch Monza after watching your Monza builds and have dug up my old BMX Action and BMX Plus magazines to look at, i knew i would eventually look at them again lol
I kid in my town in central IL probably around 1983/84 raced for SE Racing and had a baby blue with camo pads and had a truck load of baby blue SE Racing bikes, cruiser and others. Saw it in person, ha ha.
Looks like your original was a Shotgun II... I have my original on my Mongoose Motomag from when I was a kid that I chromed out and almost all original parts from early 80s.
Your build style is very nice, there’s a lot of people out there that don’t understand. The bikes were made for the individual ,I recently just finished a 82/83 MX -2 red line just like your bike it’s made for the individual not the guy that’s trying to build a show stopper, ride those bikes just don’t hang them up in the garage👍🏽
Nice build mate. I've got an early 80's Ripper frame and forks that I'm going to powder coat white with the blue decals. Wil do a similar build style too, with more recent SE parts. Cheers!
Hi Sean. I am trying to find a old school Pk ripper myself. I live in Chandler Arizona. I’m wondering if you have any good connections for old school parts and what not in the area. Thanks. Scott
As usual brother everything you do is amazing I love watching the videos you don’t know how many things I’ve ordered off of Amazon and eBay just because you’ve showed them on your videos so once again thank you and I think here soon I’m gonna do a ride BMX tribute Build!!🤘🏽
@Rad BMX Builds I can’t believe that you showed your friend a bike you wanted to buy, and then he bought it. With friends like that who needs enemies….? 🧐🔪……….😂 Great build as usual, don’t let go of this one…….!
I remember back in the day that almost every kid i knew, the PK ripper was the go to dream bike that we all wanted UNTIL i actually got to ride my friends one, omg, what a POS bike they are, glad i never paid money to buy the overpriced overhyped bike, i stuck with Diamond Back SS2, best all round BMX ever made in my opinion.
